2 Timothy 1
1 Paul, an Apostle of Christ Jesus, by the will of God, for proclaiming the promise of the Life which is in Christ Jesus:
Paul, apôtre de Jésus-Christ par la volonté de Dieu, pour annoncer la promesse de la vie qui est dans le Christ Jésus,
2 To Timothy my dearly-loved child. May grace, mercy and peace be granted to you from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.
à Timothée, mon enfant bien-aimé: grâce, miséricorde, et paix de la part de Dieu le Père et de Jésus-Christ notre Seigneur!
3 I thank God, whom I serve with a pure conscience--as my forefathers did--that night and day I unceasingly remember you in my prayers,
Je rends grâces à Dieu, que je sers ainsi que mes pères, avec une conscience pure, comme aussi je fais continuellement mention de toi dans mes prières, nuit et jour.
4 being always mindful of your tears, and longing to see you that I may be filled with joy.
Je me rappelle tes larmes, et je désire te voir, afin d’être rempli de joie.
5 For I recall the sincere faith which is in your heart--a faith which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois and then in your mother Eunice, and, I am fully convinced, now dwells in you also.
Je me souviens aussi de la foi qui est en toi si sincère; et qui a été constante d’abord dans ton aïeule Loïs et dans ta mère Eunice; et, j’en suis sûr, elle est de même en toi.
6 For this reason let me remind you to rekindle God's gift which is yours through the laying on of my hands.
C’est pourquoi je t’avertis de ranimer la grâce de Dieu, que tu as reçue par l’imposition de mes mains.
7 For the Spirit which God has given us is not a spirit of cowardice, but one of power and of love and of sound judgement.
Car ce n’est pas un esprit de timidité que Dieu nous a donné, mais un esprit de force, d’amour et de modération.
8 Do not be ashamed then to bear witness for our Lord and for me His prisoner; but rather share suffering with me in the service of the Good News, strengthened by the power of God.
Ne rougis donc pas du témoignage à rendre à notre Seigneur, ni de moi, son prisonnier; mais souffre avec moi pour l’Évangile, appuyé sur la force de Dieu,
9 For He saved us and called us with a holy call, not in accordance with our desserts, but in accordance with His own purpose and the free grace which He bestowed on us in Christ Jesus before the commencement of the Ages, (aiōnios g166)
qui nous a sauvés et nous a appelés par une vocation sainte, non à cause de nos œuvres, mais selon son propre décret et selon la grâce qui nous a été donnée en Jésus-Christ avant le commencement des siècles, (aiōnios g166)
10 but which has now been plainly revealed through the Appearing of our Saviour, Christ Jesus. He has put an end to death and has brought Life and Immortality to light through the Good News,
et qui a été manifestée à présent par l’apparition de notre Sauveur Jésus-Christ, qui a détruit la mort et a mis en lumière la vie et l’immortalité par l’Évangile.
11 of which I have been appointed a preacher, Apostle and teacher, to the Gentiles.
C’est pour cela que j’ai été établi prédicateur, apôtre et docteur des Gentils;
12 That indeed is the reason why I suffer as I do. But I am not ashamed, for I know in whom my trust reposes, and I am confident that He has it in His power to keep what I have entrusted to Him safe until that day.
c’est aussi pour cette raison que j’endure les souffrances présentes. Mais je n’en ai pas honte, car je sais en qui j’ai mis ma confiance, et j’ai la conviction qu’il a le pouvoir de garder mon dépôt jusqu’à ce jour-là.
13 Provide yourself with an outline of the sound teaching which you have heard from my lips, and be true to the faith and love which are in Christ Jesus.
Conserve le souvenir fidèle des saines instructions que tu as reçues de moi sur la foi et la charité qui est en Jésus-Christ.
14 That precious treasure which is in your charge, guard through the Holy Spirit who has His home in our hearts.
Garde le bon dépôt, par le Saint-Esprit qui habite en nous.
15 Of this you are aware, that all the Christians in Roman Asia have deserted me: and among them Phygelus and Hermogenes.
Tu sais que tous ceux qui sont en Asie m’ont abandonné, entre autres Phygelle et Hermogène.
16 May the Lord show mercy to the household of Onesiphorus; for many a time he cheered me and he was not ashamed of my chain.
Que le Seigneur répande sa miséricorde sur la maison d’Onésiphore; car souvent il m’a réconforté, et il n’a pas rougi de mes fers.
17 Nay, when he was here in Rome, he took great pains to inquire where I was living, and at last he found me.
Au contraire, dès son arrivée à Rome, il m’a cherché avec un grand empressement, et m’a trouvé.
18 (The Lord grant that he may obtain mercy at His hands on that day!) And you yourself well know all the services which he rendered me in Ephesus.
Que le Seigneur lui donne d’obtenir miséricorde auprès du Seigneur en ce jour-là! Tu sais mieux que personne tous les services qu’il m’a rendus à Éphèse.
