< 1 Corinthians 14 >

1 Be eager in your pursuit of this Love, and be earnestly ambitious for spiritual gifts, but let it be chiefly so in order that you may prophesy.
Chikojo ichuqꞌabꞌ chutereneꞌxik ri loqꞌanik. Xuqujeꞌ chirayij ri usipanik ri Uxlabꞌal, che ronojel ri sipanik chirayij ri qꞌalajisan tzij.
2 For he who speaks in an unknown tongue is not speaking to men, but to God; for no one understands him. Yet in the Spirit he is speaking secret truths.
Rumal cher ri katzijon pa juleꞌ taq chꞌabꞌal chik ri man re winaq taj, man kukꞌ ta ri winaq katzijon wi, xane rukꞌ ri Dios. Qas tzij man kꞌo ta jun kachꞌobꞌow ri kubꞌij, rumal cher awatal ri kubꞌij pa ri Uxlabꞌixel.
3 But he who prophesies speaks to men words of edification, encouragement and comfort.
Are kꞌu ri kuqꞌalajisaj ri tzij ri kaya che rumal ri Dios, are kuchꞌabꞌej ri winaq jeriꞌ kuꞌtoꞌo, kuꞌtaqchiꞌj xuqujeꞌ kukubꞌisaj kikꞌuꞌx.
4 He who speaks in an unknown tongue does good to himself, but he who prophesies does good to the Church.
Ri kachꞌaw pa juleꞌ taq tzijobꞌal chik, kuwok ribꞌ chibꞌil ribꞌ. Are kꞌu ri kuqꞌalajisaj ri tzij ri kaya che rumal ri Dios are kuꞌwok ri winaq pa ri komontyox.
5 I should be right glad were you all to speak in 'tongues,' but yet more glad were you all to prophesy. And, in fact, the man who prophesies is superior to him who speaks in 'tongues,' except when the latter can interpret in order that the Church may get a blessing.
Kawaj in we ta iwonojel kixchꞌaw pa juleꞌ taq chꞌabꞌal chik, xa kꞌu kurayij nukꞌux we ta ix qꞌalajisal taq tzij. Ri qꞌalajisal tzij nim uqꞌij choch ri kachꞌaw pa juleꞌ taq chꞌabꞌal chik, xwi na kꞌu riꞌ we kakwin chuqꞌaxaxik ri tzij ri kubꞌij rech jeriꞌ ri komontyox kukꞌamawaꞌj tobꞌanik.
6 But, brethren, as things are, if I come to you speaking in 'tongues,' what benefit shall I confer on you, if the utterance is neither in the form of a revelation nor of additional knowledge nor of prophecy nor of teaching?
Wachalal we ta kineꞌ chanim chiꞌsolixik kꞌa te riꞌ kixinchꞌabꞌej pa juleꞌ taq chꞌabꞌal chik, ¿la kꞌo kutayij riꞌ chiꞌwe? Are ne katan riꞌ we kinbꞌij jun kꞌutbꞌal chiꞌwach, o jun etaꞌmanik, jun qꞌalajisan tzij o jun kꞌutuꞌn.
7 Even inanimate things--flutes or harps, for instance--when yielding a sound, if they make no distinction in the notes, how shall the tune which is played on the flute or the harp be known?
Qilampeꞌ, ri e qꞌojom jacha ri chirimiꞌy xuqujeꞌ kaxeꞌt ri kojtal kꞌam che jacha ri chirimiꞌy xuqujeꞌ ri qꞌojom ri bꞌantal che kꞌam, ¿jas kabꞌan riꞌ chi retaꞌmaxik jachin chike ri qꞌojom tajin kaqꞌojomaxik we ta mat junam kechꞌawik?
8 If the bugle--to take another example--gives an uncertain sound, who will prepare for battle?
Ri suꞌ we man qas ta qꞌalaj ri uchꞌabꞌal, ¿la aninaq kakimulij kibꞌ riꞌ ri winaq rech kebꞌe pa chꞌoꞌj?
9 And so with you; if with the living voice you fail to utter intelligible words, how will people know what you are saying? You will be talking to the winds.
Jeriꞌ kꞌut kakꞌulmataj iwukꞌ. We man kꞌyaqal ri kibꞌij, ¿la kachꞌobꞌotaj kꞌu riꞌ ri kibꞌij? Je ta ne tajin kixtzijon riꞌ rukꞌ ri kyaqiqꞌ.
10 There are, we will suppose, a great number of languages in the world, and no creature is without a language.
Sibꞌalaj kꞌi tzijobꞌal kꞌo cho ri uwachulew, e kꞌo kꞌu winaq ri kechꞌobꞌowik.
11 If, however, I do not know the meaning of the particular language, I shall seem to the speaker of it, and he to me, to be merely talking some foreign tongue.
We kꞌu man kinchꞌobꞌ in ri kabꞌix chwe, la xa kꞌu in riꞌ naj kinpe wi, o are ri katzijon wukꞌ naj kape wi.
12 Therefore, seeing that you are ambitious for spiritual gifts, seek to excel in them so as to benefit the Church.
Je xuqujeꞌ bꞌa ix ri sibꞌalaj kirayij ri sipanik rech ri Uxlabꞌixel, chixpatanij bꞌa chupam ri sipanik ri yaꞌtal chiꞌwe rech kiꞌtoꞌ ri komontyox.
13 Therefore let a man who has the gift of tongues pray for the power of interpreting them.
Rumal riꞌ, ri winaq ri kachꞌaw pa juleꞌ taq chꞌabꞌal chik chuta pa ri uchꞌawem ri sipanik rech qꞌaxan tzij, rech jeriꞌ kakwinik kuqꞌaxaj pa kitzijobꞌal winaq ri kubꞌij pa juleꞌ taq chꞌabꞌal chik.
14 For if I pray in an unknown tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is barren.
Rumal cher we kinbꞌan chꞌawem pa juleꞌ taq chꞌabꞌal chik, ri wanimaꞌ xuqujeꞌ kubꞌan chꞌawem, are kꞌu ri nuchomabꞌal man kꞌo ta kuchꞌeko.
15 How then does the matter stand? I will pray in spirit, and I will pray with my understanding also. I will praise God in spirit, and I will praise Him with my understanding also.
¿Jas kꞌu ri rajawaxik kinbꞌano? Rajawaxik kinbꞌan chꞌawem rukꞌ ri wanimaꞌ, xuqujeꞌ rukꞌ ri nuchomabꞌal; kinbꞌixon rukꞌ ri wanimaꞌ, xuqujeꞌ rukꞌ ri nuchomabꞌal.
16 Otherwise, if you bless God in spirit only, how shall he who is in the position of an ungifted man say the 'Amen' to your giving of thanks, when he does not know what your words mean?
Rumal cher we xaq pa awanimaꞌ kaqꞌijilaꞌj wi ri Dios ¿la kakwin kꞌu riꞌ kubꞌij jun winaq, ri man tijotal ta chuchꞌobꞌik we jastaq riꞌ, je laꞌ leꞌ, we man kuchꞌobꞌ ri kabꞌij?
17 Rightly enough you are giving thanks, and yet your neighbor is not benefited.
Pune sibꞌalaj utz riꞌ ri atyoxinem at che ri Dios, maj kꞌu kutayij riꞌ che jun chik.
18 I speak in a tongue, thank God, more than all of you;
Kintyoxinik che ri Dios rumal kinikꞌow chiꞌwach iwonojel che tzijonem pa juleꞌ taq chꞌabꞌal chik.
19 but in the Church I would rather speak five words with my understanding--so as to instruct others also--than ten thousand words in an unknown tongue.
Pa ri komontyox kꞌut are katanik we kinkoj jobꞌ tzij ri kachꞌobꞌotajik xuqujeꞌ katobꞌan chikipixibꞌaxik ri nikꞌaj chik, cho we kinkoj lajuj mil tzij pa juleꞌ taq tzijobꞌal chik.
20 Brethren, do not prove yourselves to be children in your minds. As regards evil, indeed, be utter babes, but as regards your minds prove yourselves to be men of ripe years.
Wachalal, man je ta kixchoman akꞌalabꞌ. Je chixchoman akꞌalabꞌ chuchꞌobꞌik ri mak, pa ri ichomabꞌal kꞌut jer chixchoman riꞌjabꞌ taq winaq.
21 In the Law it stands written, "'By men of unknown tongues and by the lips of an unknown nation will I speak to this People, but even then they will not listen to Me', says the Lord."
Pa ri taqanik tzꞌibꞌatalik: Keꞌnchꞌabꞌej na we tinimit riꞌ chi kichiꞌ e nikꞌaj winaq chik xuqujeꞌ pa juleꞌ taq tzijobꞌal chik, rumal riꞌ man kinkitata wi. Jeriꞌ kubꞌij ri Ajawxel.
22 This shows that the gift of tongues is intended as a sign not to those who believe but to unbelievers, but prophecy is intended not for unbelievers but for those who believe.
Xaq jeriꞌ ri chꞌawem pa juleꞌ taq chꞌabꞌal chik, man jun etal taj chike ri e kojonelabꞌ, xane jun etal chike ri man e kojonelabꞌ taj. Are kꞌu ri qꞌalajisan utzij ri Dios, man jun etal taj chike ri man e kojonelabꞌ taj xane kech ri kojonelabꞌ.
23 Accordingly if the whole Church has assembled and all are speaking in 'tongues,' and there come in ungifted men, or unbelievers, will they not say that you are all mad?
Xaq jeriꞌ, we konojel ri komontyox kakimulij kibꞌ xuqujeꞌ ketzijon pa juleꞌ taq chꞌabꞌal chik, koꞌk kꞌu bꞌi nikꞌaj ri man kakichꞌobꞌ ta ri chꞌabꞌal riꞌ o man kakikoj taj, ¿la man kꞌu kakibꞌij riꞌ chi xa ix kon?
24 If, on the other hand, every one is prophesying and an unbeliever or an ungifted man comes in, he is convicted by all and closely examined by all,
We kꞌu kꞌo jun ri man kukoj taj o kok ne bꞌik jun ri man kuchꞌobꞌ taj are konojel tajin kakiqꞌalajisaj tzij, riꞌ kamayijanik xuqujeꞌ kuchꞌobꞌ riꞌ chi ajmak kumal ke konojel ri e kꞌo chilaꞌ.
25 and the hidden evils of his heart are brought to light. And, as the result, he will fall on his face and worship God, and will report to others that of a truth God is among you.
Kaqꞌalajisax kꞌu na ronojel ri rawam pa ranimaꞌ. Kaxukꞌiꞌk kꞌu na, kuqꞌijilaꞌj ri Dios, kubꞌij: Qas tzij wi ri Dios kꞌo iwukꞌ.
26 What then, brethren? Whenever you assemble, there is not one of you who is not ready either with a song of praise, a sermon, a revelation, a 'tongue,' or an interpretation. Let everything be done with a view to the building up of faith and character.
Qachalal, ¿jas kꞌu kaqabꞌij che we riꞌ? Are kimulij iwibꞌ kuyaꞌo we chi ijujunal kꞌo jujun ibꞌix, jujun ikꞌutuꞌn, kꞌo jastaq ri kukꞌut ri Dios chiꞌwach, kixtzijon pa juleꞌ taq chꞌabꞌal chik, xuqujeꞌ kibꞌan qꞌaxan taq tzij. Rajawaxik chi ronojel we riꞌ kabꞌanik rech jeriꞌ katoꞌik ri komontyox.
27 If there is speaking in an unknown tongue, only two or at the most three should speak, and they should do so one at a time, and one should interpret;
We kabꞌan chꞌawem pa juleꞌ taq chꞌabꞌal chik, chechꞌaw kebꞌ o oxibꞌ pa jujunal, xuqujeꞌ qꞌaxax ri kitzij rumal jun chik.
28 or if there is no interpreter, let the man with the gift be silent in the Church, speaking to himself and to God.
We man kꞌo jun qꞌaxal tzij pa ri komontyox, mechꞌaw bꞌa pa juleꞌ taq chꞌabꞌal chik, xane xwi kichꞌabꞌej kibꞌ xuqujeꞌ kichꞌabꞌej ri Dios.
29 But if there are Prophets, let two or three speak and let the rest judge.
Ri e qꞌalajisal taq utzij ri Dios, chechꞌaw kebꞌ oxibꞌ chike, ri nikꞌaj chik kichꞌobꞌo rij pa noꞌjimal ri xbꞌixik.
30 And if anything is revealed to some one else who is seated there, let the first be silent.
We kꞌo jun tꞌuyulik kakꞌut kꞌu jun jastaq choch rumal ri Dios, ri winaq ri tajin kachꞌawik chuya bꞌe che ri jun chik kachꞌawik.
31 For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all be encouraged:
Jeriꞌ konojel chi kijujunal kakiqꞌalajisaj ri tzij ri xubꞌij ri Dios chike, rech jeriꞌ konojel kakikꞌamawaꞌj pixabꞌ xuqujeꞌ kꞌaslemal.
32 and the spirits of Prophets yield submission to Prophets.
Ri e qꞌalajisal taq tzij are kabꞌan ke puꞌwiꞌ ri sipanik rech qꞌalajisan tzij.
33 For God is not a God of disorder, but of peace, as He is in all the Churches of His people.
Rumal cher ri Dios man kubꞌan ta jun jastaq ri man kꞌo ta pa ucholajil, rumal cher ri Dios are Dios rech jaꞌmaril. Jetaq ri naqꞌatajibꞌal pa taq ri kikomontyox ri e kojonelabꞌ,
34 Let married women be silent in the Churches, for they are not permitted to speak. They must be content with a subordinate place, as the Law also says;
man yaꞌtal ta chike ri ixoqibꞌ kechꞌawik pa ri riqoj ibꞌ pa ri komontyox. Xane kimochꞌo kibꞌ jetaq ri kubꞌij ri taqanik.
35 and if they wish to ask questions, they should ask their own husbands at home. For it is disgraceful for a married woman to speak at a Church assembly.
Ri ixoqibꞌ we kakaj kaketaꞌmaj jun jastaq, kita chike ri e kachajilal cho kachoch, rumal cher man utz taj kabꞌantajik kachꞌaw jun ixoq pa ri komontyox.
36 Was it from you that God's Message first went forth, or is it to you only that it has come?
¿La iwukꞌ kꞌu ix xkꞌiy wi loq ri utzij ri Dios? ¿La xaq xwi kꞌu ix xixkꞌamawaꞌn ri tzij?
37 If any one deems himself to be a Prophet or a man with spiritual gifts, let him recognize as the Lord's command all that I am now writing to you.
We kꞌo jun kunaꞌo chi qꞌalajisal tzij o kꞌo ri Uxlabꞌixel che, chuchꞌobꞌo chi we tajin kintzꞌibꞌaj chiꞌwe, utaqanik ri Dios.
38 But if any one is ignorant, let him be ignorant.
Are kꞌu ri man karaj taj kuchꞌobꞌ we riꞌ muchꞌobꞌ wi.
39 The conclusion, my brethren, is this. Be earnestly ambitious to prophesy, and do not check speaking with tongues;
Xaq jeriꞌ wachalal, chirayij ri sipanik rech qꞌalajisan tzij, xuqujeꞌ man kiqꞌatej taj ukojik ri juleꞌ taq chꞌabꞌal chik.
40 only let everything be done in a becoming and orderly manner.
Utz chibꞌana che ronojel ri jastaq xuqujeꞌ pa ucholajil.
