< Psalms 6 >
1 To the chief Musician on Neginoth upon Sheminith, A Psalm of David. O LORD, rebuke me not in thy anger, neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.
For the leader; with instrumental music on the sheminith. A psalm of David. Rebuke me not, Lord, in your anger, punish me not in your wrath.
2 Have mercy upon me, O LORD; for I [am] weak: O LORD, heal me; for my bones are agitated.
Lord, be gracious to me in my weakness. Heal me Lord, for racked is my body;
3 My soul is also greatly disquieted: but thou, O LORD, how long?
all of me utterly racked. Why do you wait so long, Lord?
4 Return, O LORD, deliver my soul: Oh save me for thy mercies sake.
Turn, Lord, rescue me; save me, because of your love.
5 For in death [there is] no remembrance of thee: in the grave who will give thee thanks? (Sheol )
For in death none can call you to mind; in Sheol who can praise you? (Sheol )
6 I am weary with my groaning; all the night I make my bed to swim; I water my couch with my tears.
I am so weary of sighing. All the night I make my bed swim, and wet my couch with my tears.
7 My eye is consumed because of grief; it groweth old because of all my enemies.
My eyes swollen with grief; from weeping caused by my foes.
8 Depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity; for the LORD hath heard the voice of my weeping.
Begone, workers of wrong, for the Lord has heard my loud weeping,
9 The LORD hath heard my supplication; the LORD will receive my prayer.
the Lord has heard my entreaty, the Lord accepts my prayer.
10 Let all my enemies be ashamed and greatly disquieted: let them return [and] be suddenly ashamed.
My foes will be stricken with terror, brought to shame and dismay in a moment.
