< Psalms 6 >

1 To the chief Musician on Neginoth upon Sheminith, A Psalm of David. O LORD, rebuke me not in thy anger, neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.
[For the Chief Musician; on stringed instruments, upon the eight-stringed lyre. A Psalm by David.] YHWH, do not rebuke me in your anger, neither discipline me in your wrath.
2 Have mercy upon me, O LORD; for I [am] weak: O LORD, heal me; for my bones are agitated.
Be gracious to me, YHWH, for I am frail. YHWH, heal me, for my bones are trembling.
3 My soul is also greatly disquieted: but thou, O LORD, how long?
And my soul is greatly troubled. But you, YHWH, how long?
4 Return, O LORD, deliver my soul: Oh save me for thy mercies sake.
Return, YHWH. Deliver my soul. Save me because of your lovingkindness.
5 For in death [there is] no remembrance of thee: in the grave who will give thee thanks? (Sheol h7585)
For in death there is no memory of you. In Sheol, who shall give you thanks? (Sheol h7585)
6 I am weary with my groaning; all the night I make my bed to swim; I water my couch with my tears.
I am weary with my groaning. Every night I drench my bed; I melt my couch with my tears.
7 My eye is consumed because of grief; it groweth old because of all my enemies.
My eye wastes away because of grief. It grows old because of all my adversaries.
8 Depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity; for the LORD hath heard the voice of my weeping.
Depart from me, all you workers of iniquity, for YHWH has heard the sound of my weeping.
9 The LORD hath heard my supplication; the LORD will receive my prayer.
YHWH has heard my plea. YHWH has accepted my prayer.
10 Let all my enemies be ashamed and greatly disquieted: let them return [and] be suddenly ashamed.
May all my enemies be ashamed and greatly terrified. May they turn back, suddenly ashamed.
