Psalms 59
1 To the chief Musician, Al-taschith, Michtam of David; when Saul sent, and they watched the house to kill him. Deliver me from my enemies, O my God: defend me from them that rise up against me.
Al maestro del coro. Su «Non distruggere». Di Davide. Quando Saul mandò uomini a sorvegliare la casa e ad ucciderlo. Liberami dai nemici, mio Dio, proteggimi dagli aggressori.
2 Deliver me from the workers of iniquity, and save me from bloody men.
Liberami da chi fa il male, salvami da chi sparge sangue.
3 For lo, they lie in wait for my soul: the mighty are gathered against me; not [for] my transgression, nor [for] my sin, O LORD.
Ecco, insidiano la mia vita, contro di me si avventano i potenti. Signore, non c'è colpa in me, non c'è peccato;
4 They run and prepare themselves without [my] fault: awake to help me, and behold.
senza mia colpa accorrono e si appostano. Svègliati, vienimi incontro e guarda.
5 Thou therefore, O LORD God of hosts, the God of Israel, awake to visit all the heathen: be not merciful to any wicked transgressors. (Selah)
Tu, Signore, Dio degli eserciti, Dio d'Israele, lèvati a punire tutte le genti; non avere pietà dei traditori.
6 They return at evening: they make a noise like a dog, and go about the city.
Ritornano a sera e ringhiano come cani, si aggirano per la città.
7 Behold, they belch out with their mouth: swords [are] in their lips: for who, [say they], doth hear?
Ecco, vomitano ingiurie, le loro labbra sono spade. Dicono: «Chi ci ascolta?».
8 But thou, O LORD, shalt laugh at them; thou shalt have all the heathen in derision.
Ma tu, Signore, ti ridi di loro, ti burli di tutte le genti.
9 [Because of] his strength will I wait upon thee: for God [is] my defense.
A te, mia forza, io mi rivolgo: sei tu, o Dio, la mia difesa.
10 The God of my mercy will succor me: God will let me see [my desire] upon my enemies.
La grazia del mio Dio mi viene in aiuto, Dio mi farà sfidare i miei nemici.
11 Slay them not, lest my people forget: scatter them by thy power; and bring them down, O LORD our shield.
Non ucciderli, perché il mio popolo non dimentichi, disperdili con la tua potenza e abbattili, Signore, nostro scudo.
12 [For] the sin of their mouth [and] the words of their lips let them even be taken in their pride: and for cursing and lying [which] they speak.
Peccato è la parola delle loro labbra, cadano nel laccio del loro orgoglio per le bestemmie e le menzogne che pronunziano.
13 Consume [them] in wrath, consume [them], that they [may] not [be]: and let them know that God ruleth in Jacob to the ends of the earth. (Selah)
Annientali nella tua ira, annientali e più non siano; e sappiano che Dio domina in Giacobbe, fino ai confini della terra.
14 And at evening let them return; [and] let them make a noise like a dog, and go about the city.
Ritornano a sera e ringhiano come cani, per la città si aggirano
15 Let them wander up and down for food, and grudge if they are not satisfied.
vagando in cerca di cibo; latrano, se non possono saziarsi.
16 But I will sing of thy power; yes, I will sing aloud of thy mercy in the morning: for thou hast been my defense and refuge in the day of my trouble.
Ma io canterò la tua potenza, al mattino esalterò la tua grazia perché sei stato mia difesa, mio rifugio nel giorno del pericolo.
17 To thee, O my strength, will I sing: for God [is] my defense, [and] the God of my mercy.
O mia forza, a te voglio cantare, poiché tu sei, o Dio, la mia difesa, tu, o mio Dio, sei la mia misericordia.
