< Psalms 54 >
1 To the chief Musician on Neginoth, Maschil, [A Psalm] of David, when the Ziphims came and said to Saul, Doth not David hide himself with us? Save me, O God, by thy name, and judge me by thy strength.
[For the Chief Musician. On stringed instruments. A contemplation by David, when the Ziphites came and said to Saul, "Isn't David hiding himself among us?"] Save me, God, by your name. Vindicate me in your might.
2 Hear my prayer, O God; give ear to the words of my mouth.
Hear my prayer, God. Listen to the words of my mouth.
3 For strangers have risen up against me, and oppressors seek after my soul: they have not set God before them. (Selah)
For strangers have risen up against me. Violent men have sought after my soul. They haven't set God before them. (Selah)
4 Behold, God [is] my helper: the LORD [is] with them that uphold my soul.
Look, God is my helper. The LORD is the one who sustains my soul.
5 He will reward evil to my enemies; cut them off in thy truth.
He will repay the evil to my enemies. Destroy them in your truth.
6 I will freely sacrifice to thee: I will praise thy name, O LORD; for [it is] good.
With a free will offering, I will sacrifice to you. I will give thanks to your name, LORD, for it is good.
7 For he hath delivered me out of all trouble: and my eye hath seen [its desire] upon my enemies.
For he has delivered me out of all trouble. My eye has seen triumph over my enemies.
