Psalms 53

1 To the chief Musician upon Mahalath, Maschil, [A Psalm] of David. The fool hath said in his heart, [There is] no God. They are corrupt, and have done abominable iniquity: [there is] none that doeth good.

Au maître-chantre. — Sur un mode triste. — Hymne de David. L'insensé a dit en son coeur: «Il n'y a point de Dieu!» Les hommes sont corrompus: leur conduite est abominable; Il n'y a personne qui fasse le bien.

2 God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were [any] that did understand, that did seek God.

Dieu abaisse des cieux son regard sur les fils des hommes, Pour voir s'il y a quelque homme intelligent Et qui cherche Dieu.

3 Every one of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy; [there is] none that doeth good, no, not one.

Ils se sont tous égarés, ils se sont pervertis tous ensemble: Il n'y en a pas qui fasse le bien. Non, pas même un seul!

4 Have the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people [as] they eat bread! they have not called upon God.

Sont-ils donc sans intelligence, ces ouvriers d'iniquité? Ils dévorent mon peuple comme on mange du pain; Ils n'invoquent point Dieu!

5 There they were in great fear, [where] no fear was: for God hath scattered the bones of him that encampeth [against] thee: thou hast put [them] to shame, because God hath despised them.

Ils seront saisis d'une terreur soudaine. Sans avoir aucun sujet de crainte; Car Dieu dispersera les os de ceux qui t'assiègent. Tu les couvriras de honte; car Dieu les a rejetés.

6 O that the salvation of Israel [were come] out of Zion! when God bringeth back the captivity of his people, Jacob shall rejoice, [and] Israel shall be glad.

Oh! Qui apportera de Sion la délivrance d'Israël? Quand Dieu ramènera les captifs de son peuple, Jacob sera dans l'allégresse, Israël sera dans la joie.
