Psalms 49
1 To the chief Musician, A Psalm for the sons of Korah. Hear this, all [ye] people; give ear, all [ye] inhabitants of the world:
Auf den Siegesspender, von den Korachiten, ein Lied. Ihr Völker alle, hört! Ihr Weltbewohner all, merkt auf!
2 Both low and high, rich and poor together.
Gemeine Leute, Herrensöhne, ihr all zusammen, reich und arm!
3 My mouth shall speak of wisdom; and the meditation of my heart [shall be] of understanding.
Mein Mund trägt Weisheit vor, und meines Herzens Dichtung ist voll Einsicht.
4 I will incline my ear to a parable: I will open my dark saying upon the harp.
Ich lausche einem Spruch, mein Lied mit Zitherspiel beginnend:
5 Why should I fear in the days of evil, [when] the iniquity of my heels shall encompass me?
Warum soll ich in Unglückstagen zagen, wo meiner Gegner Bosheit mich umgibt,
6 They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches;
die auf ihr Gut vertrauen, sich ihres großen Reichtums rühmen?
7 None [of them] can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:
Nicht einer kann sich selbst loskaufen, nicht einer Gott für sich ein Lösegeld erlegen,
8 (For the redemption of their soul [is] precious, and it ceaseth for ever: )
zu teuer ist der Loskauf ihrer selbst und so für alle Zeit unmöglich,
9 That he should still live for ever, [and] not see corruption.
daß er für immer lebe und nicht die Grube sehe.
10 For he seeth [that] wise men die, likewise the fool and the brutish person perish, and leave their wealth to others.
Da sieht man Weise sterben, wie Tor und Narr vergehn und andern ihr Vermögen hinterlassen.
11 Their inward thought [is], [that] their houses [shall continue] for ever, [and] their dwelling places to all generations; they call [their] lands after their own names.
Für immer ist ihr Grab ihr Haus, für alle Zukunft ihre Wohnstätte, sie, deren Namen Weltruf hatten.
12 Nevertheless man [being] in honor abideth not: he is like the beasts [that] perish.
Der Mensch bleibt nicht im Ansehen, er gleicht den Tieren, die man würgt.
13 This their way [is] their folly: yet their posterity approve their sayings. (Selah)
Das ist ihr Lauf; das ist's, was ihrer wartet, und was nach ihrem Ende wird, das können selber sie erzählen. (Sela)
14 Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling. (Sheol h7585)
Sie sind den Schafen gleich, die für die Unterwelt der Tod schon weidet; der führt sie unparteiisch bald hinab, zur Unterwelt, zu ihrer Wohnung, wo ihr Gespenst verschwindet. (Sheol h7585)
15 But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me. (Selah) (Sheol h7585)
Doch Gott behütet meine Seele vor der Unterwelt; er nimmt mich mit. (Sela) (Sheol h7585)
16 Be not thou afraid when one is made rich, when the glory of his house is increased;
Sei unbesorgt! Wenn einer sich bereichert, wenn seines Hauses Überfluß sich mehrt,
17 For when he dieth he shall carry nothing away: his glory shall not descend after him.
beim Sterben nimmt er doch nicht alles mit; sein Reichtum folgt ihm nicht hinab.
18 Though while he lived he blessed his soul: and [men] will praise thee, when thou doest well to thyself.
Er schätzte sich dann mit dem bloßen Leben glücklich, und priese glücklich dich, daß dir's noch gut ergeht.
19 He shall go to the generation of his fathers; they shall never see light.
Doch muß er zum Geschlechte seiner Väter gehen, die nimmermehr das Licht erblicken.
20 Man [that is] in honor, and understandeth not, is like the beasts [that] perish.
Der Mensch bleibt nicht im Ansehen, er gleicht den Tieren, die man würgt.
