Psalms 21

1 To the chief Musician, a Psalm of David. The king shall joy in thy strength, O LORD; and in thy salvation how greatly shall he rejoice!

Au maître-chantre. — Psaume de David. O Éternel, le roi se réjouit de ta force. Quelle allégresse lui donne ta délivrance!

2 Thou hast given him his heart's desire, and hast not withheld the request of his lips. (Selah)

Tu as répondu au désir de son coeur, Et tu ne lui as pas refusé ce que ses lèvres avaient demandé. (Pause)

3 For thou hast met him with the blessings of goodness: thou hast set a crown of pure gold on his head.

Car tu l'as prévenu par des bienfaits excellents; Tu as mis sur sa tête une couronne d'or fin.

4 He asked life of thee, [and] thou gavest [it] to him, [even] length of days for ever and ever.

Il te demandait la vie: tu la lui as accordée, Une vie dont les jours dureront à perpétuité, à jamais.

5 His glory [is] great in thy salvation: honor and majesty hast thou laid upon him.

Sa gloire est grande, grâce à ton secours victorieux; Tu le revêts de splendeur et de majesté.

6 For thou hast made him most blessed for ever: thou hast made him exceeding glad with thy countenance.

Tu fais de lui l'objet de tes bénédictions pour toujours; Tu le combles de joie devant ta face.

7 For the king trusteth in the LORD, and through the mercy of the most High he shall not be moved.

Car le roi met sa confiance en l'Éternel, Et, par la bonté du Très-Haut, il ne chancellera point.

8 Thy hand shall find out all thy enemies: thy right hand shall find out those that hate thee.

Ta main atteindra tous tes ennemis; Ta main droite atteindra ceux qui te haïssent.

9 Thou shalt make them as a fiery oven in the time of thy anger: the LORD shall swallow them up in his wrath, and the fire shall devour them.

Tu les consumeras comme dans une fournaise ardente, Aussitôt que tu te montreras. L'Éternel les engloutira dans sa colère, Et le feu les dévorera.

10 Their fruit shalt thou destroy from the earth, and their seed from among the children of men.

Tu feras disparaître de la terre leur postérité, Et leur race du milieu des fils des hommes.

11 For they intended evil against thee: they imagined a mischievous device, [which] they are not able [to perform].

Ils ont projeté du mal contre toi; Ils ont formé de méchants desseins: ils ne pourront les exécuter;

12 Therefore shalt thou make them turn their back, [when] thou shalt make ready [thy arrows] upon thy strings against the face of them.

Car tu les mettras en fuite. Tu dirigeras ton arc contre eux.

13 Be thou exalted, LORD, in thy own strength: [so] will we sing and praise thy power.

Lève-toi, ô Éternel, dans ta force! Nous chanterons et nous célébrerons tes exploits.
