Proverbs 30
1 The words of Agur the son of Jakeh, [even] the prophecy: the man spoke to Ithiel, even to Ithiel and Ucal,
Paroles d’Agour, fils de Yakéh. Déclaration solennelle. Ce personnage disait: "J’Ai peiné, ô Dieu, j’ai peiné, ô Dieu, et je m’y suis épuisé.
2 Surely I [am] more brutish than [any] man, and have not the understanding of a man.
Car je suis le plus borné des mortels, l’intelligence humaine me fait défaut.
3 I neither learned wisdom, nor have the knowledge of the holy.
Je n’ai pas étudié la sagesse, de façon à concevoir une notion exacte du Très-Saint.
4 Who hath ascended into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what [is] his name, and what [is] his son's name, if thou canst tell?
Qui est monté au Ciel et en est redescendu? Qui a recueilli le vent dans le creux de sa main? Qui a enserré les eaux dans le pan de son manteau? Qui a établi toutes les limites de la terre? Quel est son nom, quel est le nom de son fils? Dis-le si tu le sais."
5 Every word of God [is] pure: he [is] a shield to them that put their trust in him.
Toute parole émanée de Dieu est parfaite: il est un bouclier pour ceux qui s’abritent en lui.
6 Add thou not to his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.
Ne te permets aucune addition à ses dires, il te réprouverait et tu serais convaincu de mensonge.
7 Two [things] have I required of thee; deny [them] not to me before I die:
Je te demande deux choses; ne me les refuse pas avant que je meure!
8 Remove far from me vanity and lies; give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me:
Eloigne de moi la fausseté et la parole mensongère, ne me donne ni pauvreté ni richesse; accorde-moi la part de nourriture qui m’est indispensable;
9 Lest I be full, and deny [thee], and say, Who [is] the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God [in vain].
car, vivant dans l’abondance, je pourrais te renier en disant: "Qui est l’Eternel?" ou bien, poussé par la misère, je pourrais voler et offenser le nom de mon Dieu.
10 Accuse not a servant to his master, lest he curse thee, and thou be found guilty.
Ne dénigre pas l’esclave auprès de son maître: il te maudirait, et ta faute serait punie.
11 [There is] a generation [that] curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother.
Ah! la génération où l’on maudit son père, où l’on n’a pas de bénédiction pour sa mère!
12 [There is] a generation [that are] pure in their own eyes, and [yet] are not washed from their filthiness.
La génération qui se prétend pure et qui ne s’est pas lavée Je ses souillures!
13 [There is] a generation, O how lofty are their eyes! and their eyelids are lifted up.
La génération aux yeux démesurément hautains et au regard altier!
14 [There is] a generation, whose teeth [are as] swords, and their jaw-teeth [as] knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from [among] men.
La génération dont les dents sont comme des glaives et les mâchoires comme des couteaux, servant à dévorer les pauvres de la terre et les indigents parmi les hommes!
15 The horse-leech hath two daughters, [crying], Give, give. There are three [things that] are never satisfied, [yes], four [things] say not, [It is] enough:
Alouka a deux filles: "Hab, Hab!" II est trois choses qui sont insatiables, quatre qui ne disent pas: "Assez!"
16 The grave; and the barren womb; the earth [that] is not filled with water; and the fire [that] saith not, [It is] enough. (Sheol h7585)
c’est le. Cheol, le sein qui n’a point conçu, la terre qui n’est jamais rassasiée d’eau et le feu qui ne dit pas: "Assez!" (Sheol h7585)
17 The eye [that] mocketh at [its] father, and despiseth to obey [its] mother, the ravens of the valley shall pick it out, and the young eagles shall eat it.
L’Œil qui se rit d’un père et n’a que dédain pour les rides d’une mère, puisse-t-il être arraché par les corbeaux de la vallée, dévoré par les aigles!
18 There are three [things which] are too wonderful for me, yes, four which I know not:
Il est trois choses qui me sont inaccessibles et quatre que je ne connais point:
19 The way of an eagle in the air; the way of a serpent upon a rock; the way of a ship in the midst of the sea; and the way of a man with a maid.
la trace de l’aigle dans les cieux, la trace du serpent sur le rocher, la trace du navire au sein des mers et la trace de l’homme chez la jeune femme.
20 Such [is] the way of an adulterous woman; she eateth, and wipeth her mouth, and saith, I have done no wickedness.
Tel est le secret de la conduite d’une femme adultère: elle satisfait ses appétits, s’essuie la bouche et dit: "Je n’ai rien fait de mal!"
21 For three [things] the earth is disquieted, and for four [which] it cannot bear:
Il est trois spectacles qui font frémir la terre et quatre qu’elle ne peut tolérer:
22 For a servant when he reigneth; and a fool when he is filled with food.
le spectacle de l’esclave qui devient roi, le spectacle du scélérat qui vit dans l’abondance:
23 For an odious [woman] when she is married; and a handmaid that is heir to her mistress.
le spectacle d’une femme digne d’aversion qui trouve un épouseur, et le spectacle de la servante qui supplante sa maîtresse.
24 There are four [things which are] little upon the earth, but they [are] very wise:
Il existe sur terre quatre êtres tout petits, et qui sont sages par excellence:
25 The ants [are] a people not strong, yet they prepare their food in the summer;
les fourmis, peuple sans force, font en été leurs provisions;
26 The conies [are but] a feeble people, yet they make their houses in the rocks;
les gerboises, peuple sans puissance, établissent leur demeure dans les rochers;
27 The locusts have no king, yet go they forth all of them by bands;
les sauterelles n’ont pas de roi et elles se mettent toutes en campagne par bandes;
28 The spider taketh hold with her hands, and is in king's palaces.
l’araignée, tu peux l’attraper avec la main, et elle se tient dans le palais des rois!
29 There are three [things] which go well, yes, four are comely in going:
Il y a trois êtres qui s’avancent d’un pas imposant et quatre qui ont une noble démarche:
30 A lion, [which is] strongest among beasts, and turneth not away for any;
le lion, le plus fort des animaux, qui ne recule devant rien;
31 A greyhound; a he-goat also; and a king, against whom [there is] no rising up.
le lévrier aux reins cambrés, ou le bouc, et le roi à la tête de son armée.
32 If thou hast done foolishly in lifting up thyself, or if thou hast thought evil, [lay] thy hand upon thy mouth.
Que tu aies agi follement en cherchant à t’élever ou après de sages réflexions, mets-toi la main sur la bouche:
33 Surely the churning of milk bringeth forth butter, and the wringing of the nose bringeth forth blood: so the forcing of wrath bringeth forth strife.
Car la compression du lait produit le beurre, la compression du nez fait jaillir le sang, et la pression de la colère fait éclater les disputes!
