Proverbs 29
1 He, that being often reproved hardeneth [his] neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy.
O homem que muitas vezes repreendido endurece a cerviz de repente será quebrantado sem que haja cura.
2 When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.
Quando os justos se engrandecem, o povo se alegra, mas quando o ímpio domina o povo suspira.
3 He that loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father: but he that keepeth company with harlots spendeth [his] substance.
O homem que ama a sabedoria alegra a seu pai, mas o companheiro de prostitutas desperdiça a fazenda.
4 The king by judgment establisheth the land: but he that receiveth gifts overthroweth it.
O rei com juízo sustem a terra, mas o amigo de peitas a transtorna.
5 A man that flattereth his neighbor spreadeth a net for his feet.
O homem que lisongeia a seu próximo, arma uma rede aos seus passos.
6 In the transgression of an evil man [there is] a snare: but the righteous doth sing and rejoice.
Na transgressão do homem mau há laço, mas o justo jubila e se alegra.
7 The righteous considereth the cause of the poor: [but] the wicked regardeth not to know [it].
Informa-se o justo da causa dos pobres, mas o ímpio não compreende o conhecimento.
8 Scornful men bring a city into a snare: but wise [men] turn away wrath.
Os homens escarnecedores abrazam a cidade, mas os sábios desviam a ira.
9 [If] a wise man contendeth with a foolish man, whether he rageth or laugheth, [there is] no rest.
O homem sábio que pleiteia com o tolo, quer se turbe quer se ria, não terá descanço.
10 The blood-thirsty hate the upright: but the just seek his soul.
Os homens sanguinolentos aborrecem ao sincero, mas os retos procuram o seu bem.
11 A fool uttereth all his mind: but a wise [man] keepeth it in till afterwards.
Todo o seu espírito profere o tolo, mas o sábio o encobre e reprime.
12 If a ruler hearkeneth to lies, all his servants [are] wicked.
O governador que dá atenção às palavras mentirosas, achará que todos os seus servos são ímpios.
13 The poor and the deceitful man meet together: the LORD enlighteneth both their eyes.
O pobre e o usurário se encontram, e o Senhor alumia os olhos de ambos.
14 The king that faithfully judgeth the poor, his throne shall be established for ever.
O rei, que julga os pobres conforme a verdade, firmará o seu trono para sempre.
15 The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left [to himself] bringeth his mother to shame.
A vara e a repreensão dão sabedoria, mas o rapaz entregue a si mesmo envergonha a sua mãe.
16 When the wicked are multiplied, transgression increaseth: but the righteous shall see their fall.
Quando os ímpios se multiplicam, multiplicam-se as transgressões, mas os justos verão a sua queda.
17 Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; yes, he shall give delight to thy soul.
Castiga a teu filho, e te fará descançar; e dará delícias à tua alma.
18 Where [there is] no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy [is] he.
Não havendo profecia, o povo fica dissoluto; porém o que guarda a lei esse é bem-aventurado:
19 A servant will not be corrected by words: for though he understandeth, he will not answer.
O servo se não emendará com palavras, porque, ainda que te entenda, todavia não responderá.
20 Seest thou a man [that is] hasty in his words? [there is] more hope of a fool than of him.
Tens visto um homem arremessado nas suas palavras? maior esperança há dum tolo do que dele.
21 He that delicately bringeth up his servant from a child shall have him at length become [his] son.
Quando alguém cria delicadamente o seu servo desde a mocidade, por derradeiro quererá ser seu filho.
22 An angry man stirreth up strife, and a furious man aboundeth in transgression.
O homem iracundo levanta contendas; e o furioso multiplica as transgressões.
23 A man's pride shall bring him low: but honor shall uphold the humble in spirit.
A soberba do homem o abaterá, mas o humilde de espírito reterá a glória.
24 Whoever is partner with a thief, hateth his own soul: he heareth cursing, and discloseth [it] not.
O que tem parte com o ladrão aborrece a sua própria alma: ouve maldições, e não o denúncia.
25 The fear of man bringeth a snare: but he who putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe.
O temor do homem armará laços, mas o que confia no Senhor será posto em alto retiro.
26 Many seek the ruler's favor; but [every] man's judgment [cometh] from the LORD.
Muitos buscam a face do príncipe, mas o juízo de cada um vem do Senhor.
27 An unjust man [is] an abomination to the just: and [he that is] upright in the way [is] abomination to the wicked.
Abominação é para os justos o homem iníquo, mas abominação é para o ímpio o de retos caminhos.
