Proverbs 27
1 Boast not thyself of to-morrow; for thou knowest not what a day may bring forth.
Rühme dich nicht des morgenden Tages; denn du weißt nicht, was ein einziger Tag bringen mag!
2 Let another man praise thee, and not thy own mouth; a stranger, and not thy own lips.
Ein anderer soll dich rühmen, nicht dein eigener Mund; ein Fremder und nicht deine eigenen Lippen!
3 A stone [is] heavy, and the sand weighty; but a fool's wrath [is] heavier than both.
Ein Stein ist schwer und der Sand eine Last; aber der Ärger, den ein Tor verursacht, ist schwerer als beides.
4 Wrath [is] cruel, and anger [is] outrageous; but who [is] able to stand before envy?
Grausam ist der Zorn und überwallend der Grimm; aber wer kann vor der Eifersucht bestehen?
5 Open rebuke [is] better than secret love.
Offenbarende Zurechtweisung ist besser als verheimlichende Liebe.
6 Faithful [are] the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy [are] deceitful.
Treugemeint sind die Schläge des Freundes, aber reichlich die Küsse des Hassers.
7 The full soul lotheth a honey-comb; but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet.
Eine übersättigte Seele zertritt Honigseim; einer hungrigen Seele aber ist alles Bittere süß.
8 As a bird that wandereth from her nest, so [is] a man that wandereth from his place.
Wie ein Vogel, der aus seinem Neste flieht, so ist ein Mann, der aus seiner Heimat entflieht.
9 Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: so [doth] the sweetness of a man's friend by hearty counsel.
Öl und Räucherwerk erfreuen das Herz; so süß ist die Rede des Freundes, der Rat seiner Seele.
10 Thy own friend, and thy father's friend, forsake not; neither go into thy brother's house in the day of thy calamity: [for] better [is] a neighbor [that is] near, than a brother far off.
Verlaß deinen Freund und den Freund deines Vaters nicht; aber in das Haus deines Bruders begib dich nicht am Tage deiner Not; ein Nachbar in der Nähe ist besser als ein Bruder in der Ferne.
11 My son, be wise, and make my heart glad, that I may answer him that reproacheth me.
Sei weise, mein Sohn, und erfreue mein Herz; so darf ich dem antworten, der mich schmäht.
12 A prudent [man] foreseeth the evil, [and] hideth himself; [but] the simple pass on, [and] are punished.
Ein Kluger sieht das Unglück und verbirgt sich; die Einfältigen aber tappen hinein und müssen es büßen.
13 Take his garment that is surety for a stranger, and take a pledge of him for a strange woman.
Nimm sein Kleid; denn er hat sich für einen Fremden verbürgt, und statt einer Unbekannten pfände ihn aus!
14 He that blesseth his friend with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, it shall be counted a curse to him.
Wenn einer seinen Nächsten am frühen Morgen mit lauter Stimme segnet, so wird ihm das als ein Fluch angerechnet.
15 A continual dropping in a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike.
Eine rinnende Dachtraufe an einem Regentag und ein zänkisches Weib sind gleich;
16 Whoever hideth her hideth the wind, and the ointment of his right hand [which] bewrayeth [itself].
wer sie aufhalten will, der hält Wind auf und will Öl zurückdrängen mit seiner Rechten.
17 Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend.
Eisen schärft Eisen, ebenso schärft ein Mann den andern.
18 He that keepeth the fig-tree shall eat the fruit of it: so he that waiteth on his master shall be honored.
Wer des Feigenbaums wartet, genießt dessen Frucht, und wer seinem Herrn aufmerksam dient, wird geehrt.
19 As in water face [answereth] to face, so the heart of man to man.
Wie das Wasser das Angesicht, so spiegelt ein Menschenherz das andere wieder.
Totenreich und Abgrund kriegen nie genug; so sind auch die Augen der Menschen unersättlich. (Sheol h7585)
21 [As] the fining-pot for silver, and the furnace for gold; so [is] a man to his praise.
Der Tiegel ist für das Silber und der Ofen für das Gold; und der Mensch [wird geprüft] durch des Lobredners Mund.
22 Though thou shouldst bray a fool in a mortar among wheat with a pestle, [yet] his foolishness will not depart from him.
Wenn du den Narren im Mörser mit der Keule zu Grütze zerstießest, so wiche doch seine Narrheit nicht von ihm.
23 Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, [and] look well to thy herds.
Habe acht auf das Aussehen deiner Schafe und nimm dich deiner Herde an!
24 For riches [are] not for ever: and doth the crown [endure] to every generation?
Denn kein Reichtum währt ewig; oder bleibt eine Krone von Geschlecht zu Geschlecht?
25 The plant appeareth, and the tender grass showeth itself, and herbs of the mountains are gathered.
Das Heu wird weggeführt, dann erscheint junges Grün, und man sammelt die Kräuter auf den Bergen.
26 The lambs [are] for thy clothing, and the goats [are] the price of the field.
Die Lämmer kleiden dich, und die Böcke zahlen dir den Acker.
27 And [thou shalt have] goats milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household, and [for] maintenance for thy maidens.
Du hast genug Ziegenmilch zu deiner Nahrung, zur Ernährung deines Hauses und zum Unterhalt für deine Mägde.
