Proverbs 25
1 These [are] also proverbs of Solomon, which the men of Hezekiah king of Judah copied out.
੧ਇਹ ਵੀ ਸੁਲੇਮਾਨ ਦੀਆਂ ਕਹਾਉਤਾਂ ਹਨ, ਜਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਦੀ ਯਹੂਦਾਹ ਦੇ ਰਾਜਾ ਹਿਜ਼ਕੀਯਾਹ ਦੇ ਹਾਕਮਾਂ ਨੇ ਨਕਲ ਉਤਾਰੀ,
2 [It is] the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honor of kings [is] to search out a matter.
੨ਪਰਮੇਸ਼ੁਰ ਦੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਗੱਲ ਨੂੰ ਗੁਪਤ ਰੱਖਣ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੈ, ਪਰ ਰਾਜਿਆਂ ਦੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਗੱਲ ਦੀ ਪੜਤਾਲ ਕਰਨ ਵਿੱਚ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ।
3 The heaven for hight, and the earth for depth, and the heart of kings [is] unsearchable.
੩ਜਿਵੇਂ ਅਕਾਸ਼ ਦੀ ਉਚਿਆਈ ਅਤੇ ਧਰਤੀ ਦੀ ਡੂੰਘਿਆਈ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ, ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਰਾਜਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਮਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਨਹੀਂ ਜਾਣਿਆ ਜਾ ਸਕਦਾ।
4 Take away the dross from the silver, and there shall come forth a vessel for the finer.
੪ਚਾਂਦੀ ਦਾ ਖੋਟ ਕੱਢੋ, ਤਾਂ ਸਰਾਫ਼ ਲਈ ਭਾਂਡਾ ਬਣੇਗਾ।
5 Take away the wicked [from] before the king, and his throne shall be established in righteousness.
੫ਰਾਜੇ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੋਂ ਦੁਸ਼ਟ ਕੱਢੋ, ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਦੀ ਗੱਦੀ ਧਰਮ ਦੇ ਕੰਮ ਨਾਲ ਸਥਿਰ ਹੋ ਜਾਵੇਗੀ।
6 Put not forth thyself in the presence of the king, and stand not in the place of great [men]:
੬ਰਾਜੇ ਦੇ ਹਜ਼ੂਰ ਆਪਣਾ ਆਦਰ ਨਾ ਕਰ, ਅਤੇ ਵੱਡਿਆਂ ਲੋਕਾਂ ਦੇ ਥਾਂ ਉੱਤੇ ਖੜ੍ਹਾ ਨਾ ਹੋ,
7 For better [it is] that it be said to thee, Come up hither; than that thou shouldst be put lower in the presence of the prince whom thy eyes have seen.
੭ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਸ ਪ੍ਰਧਾਨ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਨੀਵਿਆਂ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾਣ ਨਾਲੋਂ ਤੇਰੇ ਲਈ ਇਹ ਚੰਗਾ ਹੈ, ਭਈ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਆਖਿਆ ਜਾਵੇ ਐਧਰ ਉਤਾਹਾਂ ਆ ਜਾ, ਜਿਵੇਂ ਤੇਰੀਆਂ ਅੱਖਾਂ ਨੇ ਵੇਖਿਆ ਹੈ।
8 Go not forth hastily to strive, lest [thou know not] what to do in the end thereof, when thy neighbor hath put thee to shame.
੮ਝਗੜਾ ਕਰਨ ਲਈ ਛੇਤੀ ਅੱਗੇ ਨਾ ਵਧ, ਅੰਤ ਵਿੱਚ ਜਦ ਤੇਰਾ ਗੁਆਂਢੀ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਰਮਿੰਦਾ ਕਰੇ, ਤਾਂ ਤੂੰ ਕੀ ਕਰੇਂਗਾ?
9 Debate thy cause with thy neighbor [himself]; and reveal not a secret to another:
੯ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਆਂਢੀ ਨਾਲ ਹੀ ਆਪਣੇ ਝਗੜੇ ਦੇ ਬਾਰੇ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਕਰ, ਅਤੇ ਇਸ ਭੇਤ ਨੂੰ ਕਿਸੇ ਦੂਜੇ ਉੱਤੇ ਨਾ ਖੋਲ੍ਹ,
10 Lest he that heareth [it] put thee to shame, and thy infamy turn not away.
੧੦ਕਿਤੇ ਸੁਣਨ ਵਾਲਾ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਰਮਿੰਦਾ ਕਰੇ, ਅਤੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਦਨਾਮੀ ਕਦੇ ਨਾ ਮਿਟੇ।
11 A word fitly spoken [is like] apples of gold in pictures of silver.
੧੧ਟਿਕਾਣੇ ਸਿਰ ਆਖੇ ਹੋਏ ਬਚਨ ਚਾਂਦੀ ਦੀ ਟੋਕਰੀ ਵਿੱਚ ਸੋਨੇ ਦੇ ਸੇਬਾਂ ਵਰਗੇ ਹਨ।
12 [As] an ear-ring of gold, and an ornament of fine gold, [so is] a wise reprover upon an obedient ear.
੧੨ਬੁੱਧਵਾਨ ਦੀ ਤਾੜਨਾ ਸੁਣਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਦੇ ਕੰਨ ਲਈ ਸੋਨੇ ਦੀ ਬਾਲੀ ਅਤੇ ਕੁੰਦਨ ਦਾ ਗਹਿਣਾ ਹੈ।
13 As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, [so is] a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.
੧੩ਜਿਵੇਂ ਵਾਢੀ ਦੇ ਦਿਨਾਂ ਵਿੱਚ ਬਰਫ਼ ਦੀ ਠੰਡ ਹੁੰਦੀ ਹੈ, ਉਸੇ ਤਰ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਵਫ਼ਾਦਾਰ ਸੰਦੇਸ਼ਵਾਹਕ ਆਪਣੇ ਭੇਜਣ ਵਾਲਿਆਂ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਹੁੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਉਹ ਆਪਣੇ ਮਾਲਕਾਂ ਦਾ ਜੀਅ ਠੰਡਾ ਕਰਦਾ ਹੈ।
14 Whoever boasteth himself of a false gift [is like] clouds and wind without rain.
੧੪ਜਿਹੜਾ ਦਾਨ ਦਿੱਤੇ ਬਿਨ੍ਹਾਂ ਹੀ ਫੋਕੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਮਾਰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਉਸ ਬੱਦਲ ਤੇ ਪੌਣ ਵਰਗਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਹ ਦੇ ਵਿੱਚ ਵਰਖਾ ਨਾ ਹੋਵੇ।
15 By long forbearing is a prince persuaded, and a soft tongue breaketh the bone.
੧੫ਧੀਰਜ ਨਾਲ ਹਾਕਮ ਸਹਿਮਤ ਹੋ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਨਰਮਾਈ ਨਾਲ ਕੀਤੀ ਗੱਲਬਾਤ ਹੱਡੀ ਨੂੰ ਵੀ ਭੰਨ ਸੁੱਟਦੀ ਹੈ।
16 Hast thou found honey? eat so much as is sufficient for thee, lest thou be filled with it, and vomit it.
੧੬ਜੇ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਹਿਦ ਲੱਭਾ ਹੈ, ਤਾਂ ਜਿੰਨਾਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਲੋੜ ਹੈ ਓਨਾ ਹੀ ਖਾਹ, ਕਿਤੇ ਵਧੇਰੇ ਖਾ ਕੇ ਉਗਲੱਛ ਨਾ ਦੇਵੇਂ।
17 Withdraw thy foot from thy neighbor's house; lest he be weary of thee, and [so] hate thee.
੧੭ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਆਂਢੀ ਦੇ ਘਰ ਬਾਰ-ਬਾਰ ਨਾ ਜਾ, ਅਜਿਹਾ ਨਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਕਿ ਉਹ ਅੱਕ ਕੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਤੋਂ ਨਫ਼ਰਤ ਕਰਨ ਲੱਗੇ।
18 A man that beareth false witness against his neighbor [is] a maul, and a sword, and a sharp arrow.
੧੮ਜਿਹੜਾ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਆਂਢੀ ਦੇ ਵਿਰੋਧ ਵਿੱਚ ਝੂਠੀ ਗਵਾਹੀ ਦਿੰਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਹਥੌੜੇ, ਤਲਵਾਰ ਅਤੇ ਤਿੱਖੇ ਤੀਰ ਵਰਗਾ ਹੈ।
19 Confidence in an unfaithful man in time of trouble [is like] a broken tooth, and a foot out of joint.
੧੯ਬਿਪਤਾ ਦੇ ਵੇਲੇ ਧੋਖੇਬਾਜ਼ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਉੱਤੇ ਭਰੋਸਾ ਕਰਨਾ, ਖ਼ਰਾਬ ਦੰਦ ਅਤੇ ਮੋਚ ਆਏ ਪੈਰ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਹੈ।
20 [As] he that taketh away a garment in cold weather, [and as] vinegar upon nitre; so [is] he that singeth songs to a heavy heart.
੨੦ਕਿਸੇ ਉਦਾਸ ਮਨ ਵਾਲੇ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਦੇ ਸਾਹਮਣੇ ਗੀਤ ਗਾਉਣਾ, ਸਿਆਲ ਵਿੱਚ ਕੱਪੜਾ ਉਤਾਰਨ, ਅਤੇ ਸੱਟ ਉੱਤੇ ਸਿਰਕਾ ਪਾਉਣ ਵਾਂਗੂੰ ਹੈ।
21 If thy enemy shall hunger, give him bread to eat; and if he shall thirst, give him water to drink:
੨੧ਜੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਵੈਰੀ ਭੁੱਖਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਰੋਟੀ ਖੁਆ, ਜੇ ਪਿਆਸਾ ਹੋਵੇ ਤਾਂ ਉਹ ਨੂੰ ਪਾਣੀ ਪਿਆ,
22 For thou shalt heap coals of fire upon his head, and the LORD will reward thee.
੨੨ਕਿਉਂ ਜੋ ਅਜਿਹਾ ਕਰ ਕਿ ਤੂੰ ਉਸ ਨੂੰ ਸ਼ਰਮਿੰਦਗੀ ਦੇਵੇਂਗਾ, ਅਤੇ ਯਹੋਵਾਹ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਫਲ ਦੇਵੇਗਾ।
23 The north wind driveth away rain: so [doth] an angry countenance a backbiting tongue.
੨੩ਉੱਤਰੀ ਪੌਣ ਵਰਖਾ ਨੂੰ ਲਿਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ, ਅਤੇ ਨਿੰਦਿਆ ਕਰਨ ਵਾਲੀ ਜੀਭ ਨਰਾਜ਼ਗੀ ਨੂੰ ਲੈ ਕੇ ਆਉਂਦੀ ਹੈ।
24 [It is] better to dwell in a corner of the house-top, than with a brawling woman and in a wide house.
੨੪ਝਗੜਾਲੂ ਪਤਨੀ ਨਾਲ ਖੁੱਲ੍ਹੇ ਡੁੱਲੇ ਘਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਵੱਸਣ ਨਾਲੋਂ, ਛੱਤ ਉੱਤੇ ਇੱਕ ਨੁੱਕਰ ਵਿੱਚ ਰਹਿਣਾ ਚੰਗਾ ਹੀ ਹੈ।
25 [As] cold waters to a thirsty soul, so [is] good news from a far country.
੨੫ਜਿਵੇਂ ਥੱਕੇ ਮਾਂਦੇ ਦੀ ਜਾਨ ਦੇ ਲਈ ਠੰਡਾ ਪਾਣੀ, ਤਿਵੇਂ ਹੀ ਦੂਰ ਦੇਸੋਂ ਆਈ ਹੋਈ ਚੰਗੀ ਖ਼ਬਰ ਹੈ।
26 A righteous man falling down before the wicked [is as] a turbid fountain, and a corrupt spring.
੨੬ਧਰਮੀ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਜੋ ਦੁਸ਼ਟ ਦੇ ਅੱਗੇ ਦੱਬ ਜਾਂਦਾ ਹੈ, ਉਹ ਗੰਧਲੇ ਸੋਤੇ ਅਤੇ ਨਸ਼ਟ ਹੋਏ ਝਰਨੇ ਵਰਗਾ ਹੈ।
27 [It is] not good to eat much honey: so [for men] to search their own glory [is not] glory.
੨੭ਬਾਹਲਾ ਸ਼ਹਿਦ ਖਾਣਾ ਚੰਗਾ ਨਹੀਂ, ਅਤੇ ਆਪਣੀ ਮਹਿਮਾ ਦੀ ਭਾਲ ਕਰਨੀ ਮਨੁੱਖਾਂ ਲਈ ਉੱਚਿਤ ਨਹੀਂ ਹੈ।
28 He that [hath] no rule over his own spirit [is like] a city [that is] broken down, [and] without walls.
੨੮ਜਿਹੜਾ ਮਨੁੱਖ ਆਪਣੇ ਆਪ ਉੱਤੇ ਕਾਬੂ ਨਹੀਂ ਰੱਖਦਾ, ਉਹ ਉਸ ਢੱਠੇ ਹੋਏ ਨਗਰ ਵਰਗਾ ਹੈ, ਜਿਹ ਦੀ ਸ਼ਹਿਰਪਨਾਹ ਨਾ ਹੋਵੇ।
