Proverbs 24
1 Be not thou envious against evil men, neither desire to be with them.
Não tenhas inveja dos homens malignos, nem desejes estar com eles;
2 For their heart studieth destruction, and their lips talk of mischief.
Porque o coração deles imagina destruição, e os lábios deles falam de opressão.
3 Through wisdom is a house built; and by understanding it is established:
Pela sabedoria a casa é edificada, e pelo entendimento ela fica firme;
4 And by knowledge shall the chambers be filled with all precious and pleasant riches.
E pelo conhecimento os cômodos se encherão de riquezas preciosas e agradáveis.
5 A wise man [is] strong; and a man of knowledge increaseth strength.
O homem sábio é poderoso; e o homem que tem conhecimento aumenta [sua] força;
6 For by wise counsel thou shalt make thy war: and in multitude of counselors [there is] safety.
Porque com conselhos prudentes farás tua guerra; e a vitória [é alcançada] pela abundância de conselheiros.
7 Wisdom [is] too high for a fool: he openeth not his mouth in the gate.
A sabedoria é alta demais para o tolo; na porta [do julgamento] ele não abre sua boca.
8 He that deviseth to do evil shall be called a mischievous person.
Quem planeja fazer o mal será chamado de vilão.
9 The thought of foolishness [is] sin: and the scorner [is] an abomination to men.
O pensamento do tolo é pecado; e o zombador é abominável aos homens.
10 [If] thou faintest in the day of adversity, thy strength [is] small.
[Se] te mostrares fraco no dia da angústia, como é pouca tua força!
11 If thou forbearest to deliver [them that are] drawn to death, and [those that are] ready to be slain;
Livra os que estão tomados para a morte, os que estão sendo levados para serem mortos;
12 If thou sayest, Behold, we knew it not; doth not he that pondereth the heart consider [it]? and he that keepeth thy soul, doth [not] he know [it]? and will [not] he render to [every] man according to his works?
Pois se tu disseres: Eis que não sabíamos, Por acaso aquele que pesa os corações não saberá? Aquele que guarda tua alma não conhecerá? Ele retribuirá ao homem conforme sua obra.
13 My son, eat thou honey, because [it is] good; and the honey-comb, [which is] sweet to thy taste:
Come mel, meu filho, porque é bom; e o favo de mel é doce ao teu paladar.
14 So [shall] the knowledge of wisdom [be] to thy soul: when thou hast found [it], then there shall be a reward, and thy expectation shall not be cut off.
Assim será o conhecimento da sabedoria para tua alma; se a encontrares haverá recompensa [para ti]; e tua esperança não será cortada.
15 Lay not wait, O wicked [man], against the dwelling of the righteous; destroy not his resting-place:
Tu, perverso, não espies a habitação do justo, nem assoles seu quarto;
16 For a just [man] falleth seven times, and riseth again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief.
Porque o justo cai sete vezes, e se levanta; mas os perversos tropeçam no mal.
17 Rejoice not when thy enemy falleth, and let not thy heart be glad when he stumbleth:
Quando teu inimigo cair, não te alegres; nem teu coração fique contente quando ele tropeçar,
18 Lest the LORD see [it], and it displease him, and he turn away his wrath from him.
Para que não [aconteça] de o SENHOR veja, e o desagrade, e desvie dele sua ira.
19 Fret not thyself because of evil [men], neither be thou envious at the wicked;
Não te irrites com os malfeitores, nem tenhas inveja dos perversos;
20 For there shall be no reward to the evil [man]; the candle of the wicked shall be extinguished.
Porque o maligno não terá um bom futuro; a lâmpada dos perversos se apagará.
21 My son, fear thou the LORD and the king: [and] meddle not with them that are given to change:
Meu filho, teme ao SENHOR e ao rei; e não te envolvas com os rebeldes;
22 For their calamity shall rise suddenly; and who knoweth the ruin of them both?
Porque a destruição deles se levantará de repente; e quem sabe que ruína eles terão?
23 These [things] also [belong] to the wise. [It is] not good to have respect of persons in judgment.
Estes [provérbios] também são para os sábios: fazer acepção de pessoas num julgamento não é bom.
24 He that saith to the wicked, Thou [art] righteous; him shall the people curse, nations shall abhor him:
Aquele que disser ao ímpio: Tu és justo, Os povos o amaldiçoarão, as nações o detestarão.
25 But to them that rebuke [him] shall be delight, and a good blessing shall come upon them.
Mas para aqueles que [o] repreenderem, haverá coisas boas; e sobre eles virá uma boa bênção.
26 [Every man] shall kiss [his] lips that giveth a right answer.
Quem responde palavras corretas é [como se] estivesse beijando com os lábios.
27 Prepare thy work without, and make it fit for thyself in the field; and afterwards build thy house.
Prepara o teu trabalho de fora, e deixa pronto o teu campo; então depois, edifica a tua casa.
28 Be not a witness against thy neighbor without cause; and deceive [not] with thy lips.
Não sejas testemunha contra o teu próximo sem causa; por que enganarias com teus lábios?
29 Say not, I will do so to him as he hath done to me: I will render to the man according to his work.
Não digas: Assim como ele fez a mim, assim também farei a ele; pagarei a cada um conforme sua obra.
30 I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;
Passei junto ao campo do preguiçoso, e junto à vinha do homem sem juízo;
31 And lo, it was all grown over with thorns, [and] nettles had covered the face of it, and its stone wall was broken down.
e eis que ela estava toda cheia de espinheiros, [e] sua superfície coberta de urtigas; e o seu muro de pedras estava derrubado.
32 Then I saw, [and] considered [it] well: I looked upon [it], [and] received instruction.
Quando eu vi [isso], aprendi em meu coração, e, olhando, recebi instrução:
33 [Yet] a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:
um pouco de sono, cochilando um pouco, cruzando as mãos por um pouco de tempo, deitado,
34 So shall thy poverty come [as] one that traveleth; and thy want as an armed man.
e assim a tua pobreza virá como um assaltante; a tua necessidade, como um homem armado.
