Proverbs 23
1 When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what [is] before thee:
जब तू हाकिम के साथ खाने बैठे, तो खू़ब ग़ौर कर, कि तेरे सामने कौन है?
2 And put a knife to thy throat, if thou [art] a man given to appetite.
अगर तू खाऊ है, तो अपने गले पर छुरी रख दे।
3 Be not desirous of his dainties: for they [are] deceitful food.
उसके मज़ेदार खानों की तमन्ना न कर, क्यूँकि वह दग़ा बाज़ी का खाना है।
4 Labor not to be rich: cease from thy own wisdom.
मालदार होने के लिए परेशान न हो; अपनी इस 'अक़्लमन्दी से बाज़ आ।
5 Wilt thou set thy eyes upon that which is not? for [riches] certainly make to themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle towards heaven.
क्या तू उस चीज़ पर आँख लगाएगा जो है ही नहीं? लेकिन लगा कर आसमान की तरफ़ उड़ जाती है?
6 Eat thou not the bread of [him that hath] an evil eye, neither desire thou his dainties:
तू तंग चश्म की रोटी न खा, और उसके मज़ेदार खानों की तमन्ना न कर;
7 For as he thinketh in his heart, so [is] he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart [is] not with thee.
क्यूँकि जैसे उसके दिल के ख़याल हैं वह वैसा ही है। वह तुझ से कहता है खा और पी, लेकिन उसका दिल तेरी तरफ़ नहीं
8 The morsel [which] thou hast eaten shalt thou vomit up, and lose thy sweet words.
जो निवाला तूने खाया है तू उसे उगल देगा, और तेरी मीठी बातें बे मतलब होंगी
9 Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.
अपनी बातें बेवक़ूफ़ को न सुना, क्यूँकि वह तेरे 'अक़्लमंदी के कलाम की ना क़द्री करेगा।
10 Remove not the old landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless:
पुरानी हदों को न सरका, और यतीमों के खेतों में दख़ल न कर,
11 For their redeemer [is] mighty; he will plead their cause with thee.
क्यूँकि उनका रिहाई बख़्शने वाला ज़बरदस्त है; वह खुद ही तेरे ख़िलाफ़ उनकी वक़ालत करेगा।
12 Apply thy heart to instruction, and thy ears to the words of knowledge.
तरबियत पर दिल लगा, और 'इल्म की बातें सुन।
13 Withhold not correction from the child: for [if] thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die.
लड़के से तादीब को दरेग़ न कर; अगर तू उसे छड़ी से मारेगा तो वह मर न जाएगा।
तू उसे छड़ी से मारेगा, और उसकी जान को पाताल से बचाएगा। (Sheol h7585)
15 My son, if thy heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine.
ऐ मेरे बेटे, अगर तू 'अक़्लमंद दिल है, तो मेरा दिल, हाँ मेरा दिल ख़ुश होगा।
16 Yes, my reins shall rejoice, when thy lips speak right things.
और जब तेरे लबों से सच्ची बातें निकलेंगी, तो मेरा दिल शादमान होगा।
17 Let not thy heart envy sinners: but [be thou] in the fear of the LORD all the day long.
तेरा दिल गुनहगारों पर रश्क न करे, बल्कि तू दिन भर ख़ुदावन्द से डरता रह।
18 For surely there is an end; and thy expectation shall not be cut off.
क्यूँकि बदला यक़ीनी है, और तेरी आस नहीं टूटेगी।
19 Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thy heart in the way.
ऐ मेरे बेटे, तू सुन और 'अक़्लमंद बन, और अपने दिल की रहबरी कर।
20 Be not among wine-bibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh:
तू शराबियों में शामिल न हो, और न हरीस कबाबियों में,
21 For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe [a man] with rags.
क्यूँकि शराबी और खाऊ कंगाल हो जाएँगे और नींद उनको चीथड़े पहनाएगी।
22 Hearken to thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.
अपने बाप का जिससे तू पैदा हुआ सुनने वाला हो, और अपनी माँ को उसके बुढ़ापे में हक़ीर न जान।
23 Buy the truth, and sell [it] not; [also] wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.
सच्चाई की मोल ले और उसे बेच न डाल; हिकमत और तरबियत और समझ को भी।
24 The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise [child] shall have joy of him.
सादिक़ का बाप निहायत ख़ुश होगा; और अक़्लमंद का बाप उससे शादमानी करेगा।
25 Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bore thee shall rejoice.
अपने माँ बाप को ख़ुश कर, अपनी वालिदा को शादमान रख।
26 My son, give me thy heart, and let thy eyes observe my ways.
ऐ मेरे बेटे, अपना दिल मुझ को दे, और मेरी राहों से तेरी आँखें ख़ुश हों।
27 For a lewd woman [is] a deep ditch; and a strange woman [is] a narrow pit.
क्यूँकि फ़ाहिशा गहरी ख़न्दक़ है, और बेगाना 'औरत तंग गढ़ा है।
28 She also lieth in wait as [for] a prey, and increaseth the transgressors among men.
वह राहज़न की तरह घात में लगी है, और बनी आदम में बदकारों का शुमार बढ़ाती है।
29 Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes?
कौन अफ़सोस करता है? कौन ग़मज़दा है? कौन झगड़ालू है? कौन शाकी है? कौन बे वजह घायल है? और किसकी आँखों में सुर्ख़ी है?
30 They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine.
वही जो देर तक मयनोशी करते हैं; वही जो मिलाई हुई मय की तलाश में रहते हैं।
31 Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth its color in the cup, [when] it moveth itself aright.
जब मय लाल लाल हो, जब उसका बर'अक्स जाम पर पड़े, और जब वह रवानी के साथ नीचे उतरे, तो उस पर नज़र न कर।
32 At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.
क्यूँकि अन्जाम कार वह साँप की तरह काटती, और अज़दहे की तरह डस जाती है।
33 Thy eyes shall behold strange women, and thy heart shall utter perverse things.
तेरी आँखें 'अजीब चीज़ें देखेंगी, और तेरे मुँह से उलटी सीधी बातें निकलेगी।
34 And thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast.
बल्कि तू उसकी तरह होगा जो समन्दर के बीच में लेट जाए, या उसकी तरह जो मस्तूल के सिरे पर सो रहे।
35 They have stricken me, [wilt thou say], [and] I was not sick; they have beaten me, [and] I felt [it] not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.
तू कहेगा उन्होंने तो मुझे मारा है, लेकिन मुझ को चोट नहीं लगी; उन्होंने मुझे पीटा है लेकिन मुझे मा'लूम भी नहीं हुआ। मैं कब बेदार हूँगा? मैं फिर उसका तालिब हूँगा।
