Proverbs 23
1 When thou sittest to eat with a ruler, consider diligently what [is] before thee:
१जेव्हा तू अधिपतीबरोबर जेवायला बसतोस, तेव्हा काळजीपूर्वक तुझ्यापुढे कोण आहे याचे निरीक्षण कर,
2 And put a knife to thy throat, if thou [art] a man given to appetite.
२आणि जर तू खादाड असलास तर आपल्या गळ्याला सुरी लाव.
3 Be not desirous of his dainties: for they [are] deceitful food.
३त्याच्या मिष्टान्नांची हाव धरू नको, कारण ती लबाडाची खाद्ये आहेत.
4 Labor not to be rich: cease from thy own wisdom.
४श्रीमंत होण्यासाठी खूप कष्ट करू नको; तुम्ही आपल्या ज्ञानाने कोठे थांबावे समजून घे.
5 Wilt thou set thy eyes upon that which is not? for [riches] certainly make to themselves wings; they fly away as an eagle towards heaven.
५जेव्हा तू जो जाणारा पैसा आहे त्यावर आपली नजर लावशील, आणि अचानक ते पंख धारण करतील, आणि ते गरुडासारखे आकाशाकडे उडून जातील.
6 Eat thou not the bread of [him that hath] an evil eye, neither desire thou his dainties:
६जो कोणी तुझ्या अन्नाकडे खूप वेळ पाहतो त्या दुष्ट मनुष्याचे अन्न खाऊ नको, आणि त्याच्या मिष्टान्नाची इच्छा धरू नको,
7 For as he thinketh in his heart, so [is] he: Eat and drink, saith he to thee; but his heart [is] not with thee.
७तो अशाप्रकारचा मनुष्य आहे जो अन्नाची किंमत मोजतो. तो तुला खा व पी! म्हणतो, परंतु त्याचे मन तुझ्यावर नाही.
8 The morsel [which] thou hast eaten shalt thou vomit up, and lose thy sweet words.
८जे थोडेसे अन्न तू खाल्ले ते ओकून टाकशील, आणि तुमच्या शुभेच्छा व्यर्थ जातील.
9 Speak not in the ears of a fool: for he will despise the wisdom of thy words.
९मूर्खाच्या कानात काही सांगू नको, कारण तो तुमच्या शहाणपणाच्या शब्दांचा तिरस्कार करील.
10 Remove not the old landmark; and enter not into the fields of the fatherless:
१०जुन्या सीमेचा दगड काढू नको; किंवा अनाथाची शेती बळकावू नको.
11 For their redeemer [is] mighty; he will plead their cause with thee.
११कारण त्यांचा तारणारा समर्थ आहे; आणि तो त्यांचा कैवार घेऊन तुमच्याविरुध्द होईल.
12 Apply thy heart to instruction, and thy ears to the words of knowledge.
१२तू आपले मन शिक्षणाकडे आणि आपले कान ज्ञानाच्या वचनाकडे लाव.
13 Withhold not correction from the child: for [if] thou beatest him with the rod, he shall not die.
१३मुलाला शिक्षा करण्यास अवमान करू नको; कारण जर तू त्यास छडीने मारले तर तो मरणार नाही.
१४जर तुम्ही त्यास छडीने मारले, तर तुम्ही त्याचा जीव अधोलाकापासून वाचवाल. (Sheol h7585)
15 My son, if thy heart be wise, my heart shall rejoice, even mine.
१५माझ्या मुला, तू जर शहाणा असलास तर मग, माझ्या मनालाही आनंद होईल.
16 Yes, my reins shall rejoice, when thy lips speak right things.
१६तुझे ओठ योग्य ते बोलत असता, माझे अंतर्याम आनंदित होईल.
17 Let not thy heart envy sinners: but [be thou] in the fear of the LORD all the day long.
१७तुझ्या हृदयाने पातक्यांचा हेवा करू नये, पण सारा दिवस तू सतत परमेश्वराचे भय धरीत जा.
18 For surely there is an end; and thy expectation shall not be cut off.
१८कारण त्यामध्ये खचित भविष्य आहे; आणि तुझी आशा तोडण्यात येणार नाही.
19 Hear thou, my son, and be wise, and guide thy heart in the way.
१९माझ्या मुला माझे ऐक, आणि सुज्ञ हो आणि आपले मन सरळ मार्गात राख.
20 Be not among wine-bibbers; among riotous eaters of flesh:
२०मद्यप्यांबरोबर किंवा खादाडपणाने मांस खाणाऱ्याबरोबर मैत्री करू नकोस.
21 For the drunkard and the glutton shall come to poverty: and drowsiness shall clothe [a man] with rags.
२१कारण मद्य पिणारे आणि खादाड गरीब होतात, झोपेत वेळ घालवणारा चिंध्यांचे वस्त्र घालील.
22 Hearken to thy father that begat thee, and despise not thy mother when she is old.
२२तू आपल्या जन्मदात्या पित्याचे ऐक, तुझी आई म्हातारी झाली म्हणून तिचा तिरस्कार करू नको.
23 Buy the truth, and sell [it] not; [also] wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.
२३सत्य विकत घे, पण ते विकू नको; शहाणपण, शिक्षण आणि समजूतदारपणा ही विकत घे.
24 The father of the righteous shall greatly rejoice: and he that begetteth a wise [child] shall have joy of him.
२४नीतिमानाचा पिता फार उल्लासेल, आणि सुज्ञ मुलास जन्म देणारा त्याच्याविषयी आनंदित होईल.
25 Thy father and thy mother shall be glad, and she that bore thee shall rejoice.
२५तुमच्या आई आणि वडिलांना तुमच्याबरोबर आनंदी होऊ द्या. जिने तुला जन्म दिला तिला आनंद घेऊ दे.
26 My son, give me thy heart, and let thy eyes observe my ways.
२६माझ्या मुला, तू आपले हृदय मला दे, आणि तुझे डोळे माझ्या मार्गाचे निरीक्षण करोत.
27 For a lewd woman [is] a deep ditch; and a strange woman [is] a narrow pit.
२७कारण वेश्या ही खोल खड्डा आहे आणि दुसऱ्या मनुष्याची पत्नी ही अरुंद खड्डा आहे.
28 She also lieth in wait as [for] a prey, and increaseth the transgressors among men.
२८ती चोरासारखी वाट बघत असते, आणि ती मनुष्यजातीत विश्वासघातक्यांची संख्या वाढवते.
29 Who hath woe? who hath sorrow? who hath contentions? who hath babbling? who hath wounds without cause? who hath redness of eyes?
२९कोणाला हाय? कोणाला दुःख? कोणाला लढाई? कोणाला गाऱ्हाणी? कोणाला विनाकारण जखमा? कोणाला आरक्त डोळे आहे?
30 They that tarry long at the wine; they that go to seek mixed wine.
३०जे मद्य पीत रेंगाळतात, जे मिश्र मद्याचा आस्वाद घेण्याचा प्रयत्न करतात.
31 Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth its color in the cup, [when] it moveth itself aright.
३१जेव्हा मद्य लाल आहे, जेव्हा तो प्याल्यात चमकतो, आणि खाली कसा सहज उतरतो तू त्याकडे पाहू नको.
32 At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.
३२पण शेवटी तो सापासारखा चावतो, आणि फुरशाप्रमाणे झोंबतो.
33 Thy eyes shall behold strange women, and thy heart shall utter perverse things.
३३तुझे डोळे विलक्षण गोष्टी पाहतील; आणि तुझे मन विकृत गोष्टी उच्चारील.
34 And thou shalt be as he that lieth down in the midst of the sea, or as he that lieth upon the top of a mast.
३४जो समुद्रामध्ये आडवा पडला त्याच्यासारखा, अथवा डोलकाठीच्या माथ्यावर जो झोपला त्याच्यासारखा तू होशील.
35 They have stricken me, [wilt thou say], [and] I was not sick; they have beaten me, [and] I felt [it] not: when shall I awake? I will seek it yet again.
३५तुम्ही म्हणाल, “त्यांनी मला तडाखा दिला! पण मला काही लागले नाही. त्यांनी मला पिटले पण मला ते जाणवले नाही. मी केव्हा जागा होईल? मी पुन्हा त्याचे सेवन करीन.”
