< Proverbs 22 >

1 A [good] name [is] rather to be chosen than great riches, [and] loving favor rather than silver and gold.

2 The rich and poor meet together: the LORD [is] the maker of them all.

3 A prudent [man] foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself: but the simple pass on, and are punished.
Kâhruetcuet e ni teh hnokathout a hmu navah a kâhro, hatei kamawngrame ni teh a ceisin teh rek e lah ouk ao.
4 By humility [and] the fear of the LORD [are] riches, and honor, and life.
Kârahnoumnae hoi BAWIPA takinae ni tawntanae hoi barinae hoi hringnae a tâcokhai.
5 Thorns [and] snares [are] in the way of the froward: he that doth keep his soul shall be far from them.
Lam longkawi dawk teh pâkhing hoi karap ao teh, a hringnae lamthung ka ring e teh hotnaw hoi ahlanae koe doeh ao.
6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
Camo ni a dawn hane lamthung pâtu haw, a matawng to hai phen mahoeh toe.
7 The rich ruleth over the poor, and the borrower [is] servant to the lender.
Tami ka tawnta ni tamimathoe a uk, ka câwi e tami teh kacâwisakkung koe san lah ao.
8 He that soweth iniquity shall reap vanity: and the rod of his anger shall fail.
Payonpakainae cati ka tu e ni lungmathoenae a a vaiteh, a lungkhueknae sonron a khoe han.
9 He that hath a bountiful eye shall be blessed; for he giveth of his bread to the poor.
Pahrennae mit ka tawn e teh yawhawi a coe han, bangkongtetpawiteh tamimathoenaw ouk a kawk toe.
10 Cast out the scorner, and contention shall end; yes, strife and reproach shall cease.
Dudamnaw pâlei haw kâounnae tang a roum han, kâyuenae hoi kâpakungnae hai a roum han.
11 He that loveth pureness of heart, [for] the grace of his lips the king [shall be] his friend.
A lungthin ka thoung e teh, kamcu e lawk a dei dawkvah siangpahrang e hui kahawicalah ao han.
12 The eyes of the LORD preserve knowledge, and he overthroweth the words of the transgressor.
BAWIPA mit ni panuenae a kountouk, hatei yuemnae ka tawn hoeh e lawk teh ouk a takhoe.
13 The slothful [man] saith, [There is] a lion without, I shall be slain in the streets.
Ka pangak e tami ni alawilah sendek ao, lam vah na kei han doeh, ouk a ti.
14 The mouth of strange women [is] a deep pit: he that is abhorred by the LORD shall fall therein.
Napui kahawihoehe pahni teh kadunge tangkom doeh, BAWIPA ni a panuet e teh hawvah a bo han.
15 Foolishness [is] bound in the heart of a child; [but] the rod of correction shall drive it far from him.
Pathunae heh camo lungthin dawk a kâbet teh, yuenae bongpai ni ahlanae koe ouk a pâlei.
16 He that oppresseth the poor to increase his [riches], [and] he that giveth to the rich, [shall] surely [come] to want.
Ma mek nahanelah tamimathoenaw ka rektap e hoi, katawntanaw ka poe e tami teh hoehoe a mathoe han.
17 Bow down thy ear, and hear the words of the wise, and apply thy heart to my knowledge.
Tamilungkaangnaw e lawk heh kahawicalah thai nateh, na lungthin hoi kaie lungangnae hah dâw haw.
18 For [it is] a pleasant thing if thou keepest them within thee; they shall withal be fitted in thy lips.
Bangkongtetpawiteh, na thung hoi na pâkuem pawiteh hothateh lunghawinae doeh, na pahni dawk pou awm seh.
19 That thy trust may be in the LORD, I have made known to thee this day, even to thee.
Hottelahoi BAWIPA teh na kâuep thai han, sahnin vah nang koe na panuesak toe.
20 Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge,
Kâpankhainae hoi panuenae kahawi poung e hah na thut pouh toe nahoehmaw.
21 That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send to thee?
Nang ni lawkkatang katang na panue vaiteh, nang koe patoun e naw hah lawkkatang lawk bout na dei pouh thai han.
22 Rob not the poor, because he [is] poor: neither oppress the afflicted in the gate:
Mathoenaw e mathoenae hah thakâla hoi ahnie hno lawm hanh, ka cunathoehnaw hai kho longkha koe coungroe hanh.
23 For the LORD will plead their cause, and spoil the soul of those that spoiled them.
Bangkongtetpawiteh, BAWIPA ni ahnimae kong a pouk han doeh, ahnimae hno kalawmnaw e hringnae a lawp pouh van han.
24 Make no friendship with an angry man; and with a furious man thou shalt not go:
A lungkaduem e tami hah kamyawngkhai hanh, a lungkhuek thai poung e tami hai kamyawngkhai hanh.
25 Lest thou learn his ways, and get a snare to thy soul.
Ahnimae nuen na kamtu vaiteh, na hringnae a kâman han.
26 Be not thou [one] of them that strike hands, [or] of them that are sureties for debts.
Kut tambei e taminaw hoi laiba patho pouh hanelah lawk kâkam e taminaw koe bawk van hanh.
27 If thou hast nothing to pay, why should he take away thy bed from under thee?
Patho nahane na tawn hoeh pawiteh, na ikhun tawm awh vaiteh oun na la pouh awh han nahoehmaw.
28 Remove not the ancient landmark, which thy fathers have set.
Na mintoenaw ni ung e khori hah takhoe hanh.
29 Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean [men].
Thaw kahawicalah ka tawk ni teh ka cuem e na hmu boi ou, siangpahrangnaw hmalah hai a kangdue han doeh, tami rumram e hmalah kangdout mahoeh.
