Proverbs 2
1 My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;
Moj sin, če boš sprejel moje besede in moje zapovedi skril s seboj,
2 So that thou incline thy ear to wisdom, [and] apply thy heart to understanding;
tako da boš svoje uho nagnil k modrosti in svoje srce usmeril k razumevanju;
3 Yes, if thou criest after knowledge, [and] liftest up thy voice for understanding;
da, če kličeš za spoznanjem in svoj glas dvigaš za razumevanjem,
4 If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as [for] hid treasures;
če jo iščeš kakor srebro in preiskuješ za njo kakor za skritimi zakladi,
5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.
potem boš razumel Gospodov strah in našel spoznanje Boga.
6 For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth [cometh] knowledge and understanding.
Kajti Gospod daje modrost. Iz njegovih ust prihajata spoznanje in razumevanje.
7 He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: [he is] a buckler to them that walk uprightly.
Zdravo modrost shranjuje za pravičnega, on je majhen ščit tem, ki hodijo pošteno.
8 He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.
Čuva steze sodbe in varuje pot svojih svetih.
9 Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; [and] every good path.
Potem boš razumel pravičnost, sodbo in nepristranskost, da, vsako dobro stezo.
10 When wisdom entereth into thy heart, and knowledge is pleasant to thy soul;
Kadar v tvoje srce vstopa modrost in je spoznanje prijetno tvoji duši,
11 Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:
te bo varovala preudarnost, razumevanje te bo ohranilo,
12 To deliver thee from the way of the evil [man], from the man that speaketh froward things;
da te osvobodi pred potjo zlega človeka. Pred človekom, ki govori kljubovalne stvari,
13 Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;
ki zapušča steze poštenosti, da hodi po poteh teme,
14 Who rejoice to do evil, [and] delight in the frowardness of the wicked;
ki se veseli, da počne zlo in se razveseljuje v kljubovalnosti zlobnih,
15 Whose ways [are] crooked, and [they] froward in their paths:
katerega poti so sprijene, oni pa kljubujejo na svojih stezah.
16 To deliver thee from the strange woman, [even] from the stranger [who] flattereth with her words;
Da te osvobodi pred tujo žensko, celó pred tujko, ki laska s svojimi besedami,
17 Who forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God.
ki se odpoveduje vodniku svoje mladosti in pozablja zavezo svojega Boga.
18 For her house inclineth to death, and her paths to the dead.
Kajti njena hiša se nagiba k smrti in njene steze k mrtvim.
19 None that go to her return again, neither do they take hold of the paths of life.
Nihče, ki gre k njej, se ne vrne ponovno niti se ne oprime stezá življenja.
20 That thou mayest walk in the way of good [men], and keep the paths of the righteous.
Da boš lahko hodil po poti dobrih ljudi in se držal stezá pravičnih.
21 For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it.
Kajti iskreni bodo prebivali v deželi in popolni bodo preostali v njej.
22 But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.
Toda zlobni bodo iztrebljeni z zemlje in prestopniki bodo izkoreninjeni iz nje.
