Proverbs 2
1 My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;
Fiam, ha elfogadod mondásaimat és parancsaimat magadnál rejted,
2 So that thou incline thy ear to wisdom, [and] apply thy heart to understanding;
figyeltetve füledet a bölcsségre, szívedet az értelemre hajtod;
3 Yes, if thou criest after knowledge, [and] liftest up thy voice for understanding;
bizony, ha az értelmességet hívod, az értelemért hallatod szavadat;
4 If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as [for] hid treasures;
ha keresed azt, mint az ezüstöt, s mint a kincseket kutatod:
5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.
akkor megérted az Isten félelmét, s Isten megismerését találod.
6 For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth [cometh] knowledge and understanding.
Mert az Örökkévaló ad bölcsességet, szájából tudást és értelmet;
7 He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: [he is] a buckler to them that walk uprightly.
üdvöt tartogat az egyeneseknek, pajzsa ő a gáncstalanul járóknak,
8 He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints.
megóva a jognak ösvényeit és őrizve jámborainak útját.
9 Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; [and] every good path.
Akkor értesz igazságot és jogot és egyenességet – a jónak minden nyomdokát.
10 When wisdom entereth into thy heart, and knowledge is pleasant to thy soul;
Mert bölcsesség jut szívedbe, és tudás kedves lesz a lelkednek.
11 Discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee:
Meggondolás fog őrködni feletted, értelem meg fog óvni tégedet.
12 To deliver thee from the way of the evil [man], from the man that speaketh froward things;
Hogy megmentsen téged a rossznak útjától, embertől, ki ferdeségeket beszél,
13 Who leave the paths of uprightness, to walk in the ways of darkness;
a kik elhagyják az egyenesség ösvényeit, hogy járjanak sötétség útjain;
14 Who rejoice to do evil, [and] delight in the frowardness of the wicked;
kik örülnek azon, hogy rosszat tesznek, vígadnak a rossznak ferdeségén;
15 Whose ways [are] crooked, and [they] froward in their paths:
kik ösvényeiken fonákok s álnokok a nyomdokaiban.
16 To deliver thee from the strange woman, [even] from the stranger [who] flattereth with her words;
Hogy megmentsen téged idegen asszonytól, idegen nőtől, ki simává tette mondásait;
17 Who forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the covenant of her God.
ki elhagyta ifjúkori társát és Istene szövetségét elfelejtette.
18 For her house inclineth to death, and her paths to the dead.
Mert halálra hanyatlik az ő házával és az árnyakhoz nyomdokai.
19 None that go to her return again, neither do they take hold of the paths of life.
Mind, a kik bemennek hozzá, nem térnek vissza s nem érik el az élet ösvényeit.
20 That thou mayest walk in the way of good [men], and keep the paths of the righteous.
Azért, hogy járj a jóknak útján s megőrizzed az igazak ösvényeit.
21 For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it.
Mert az egyenesek fogják lakni az országot és a gáncstalanok megmaradnak benne.
22 But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.
De a gonoszok ki fognak irtatni az országból és a hűtlenkedőket kiszakítják belőle.
