Proverbs 19
1 Better [is] the poor that walketh in his integrity, than [he that is] perverse in his lips, and is a fool.
Más vale el pobre que vive rectamente, que el rico fatuo y de lengua perversa.
2 Also, [that] the soul [be] without knowledge, [it is] not good; and he that hasteth with [his] feet sinneth.
Es un mal si el alma carece de ciencia, pues tropieza el que anda precipitado.
3 The foolishness of man perverteth his way: and his heart fretteth against the LORD.
La necedad le tuerce al hombre sus caminos, y luego murmura su corazón contra Yahvé.
4 Wealth maketh many friends; but the poor is separated from his neighbor.
Las riquezas aumentan mucho el número de los amigos, el pobre, empero, es abandonado de su propio compañero.
5 A false witness shall not be unpunished, and [he that] speaketh lies shall not escape.
Testigo falso no quedará sin castigo, y no se librará el que profiere mentiras.
6 Many will entreat the favor of the prince: and every man [is] a friend to him that giveth gifts.
El dadivoso tiene muchos aduladores; todos son amigos del que da regalos.
7 All the brethren of the poor do hate him: how much more do his friends go far from him? he pursueth [them with] words, [yet] they [are] wanting [to him].
Si al pobre le aborrecen todos sus hermanos, ¡Cuánto más se alejarán de él sus amigos! Quiere ganarlos con palabras pero no están a su alcance.
8 He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul: he that keepeth understanding shall find good.
El que adquiere inteligencia ama su alma, quien se acomoda a la prudencia hallará la dicha.
9 A false witness shall not be unpunished, and [he that] speaketh lies shall perish.
El testigo falso no quedará impune, y el que propala mentiras perecerá.
10 Delight is not seemly for a fool; much less for a servant to have rule over princes.
No está bien al necio una vida regalada, mucho menos a un esclavo el mandar a los príncipes.
11 The discretion of a man deferreth his anger; and [it is] his glory to pass over a transgression.
El hombre sabio detiene su ira; su gloria es olvidar las injurias.
12 The king's wrath [is] as the roaring of a lion; but his favor [is] as dew upon the grass.
Como rugido de león es la ira del rey; y su favor cual rocío sobre el césped.
13 A foolish son [is] the calamity of his father: and the contentions of a wife [are] a continual dropping.
Dolor de su padre es el hijo insensato, y gotera continua la mujer rencillosa.
14 House and riches [are] the inheritance of fathers: and a prudent wife [is] from the LORD.
Casa y riqueza se heredan de los padres, pero la mujer discreta es don de Yahvé.
15 Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger.
La pereza trae el sueño, y la indolencia el hambre.
16 He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his own soul; [but] he that despiseth his ways shall die.
Quien guarda los mandamientos, guarda su alma; mas el que menosprecia los caminos de (Yahvé) morirá.
17 He that hath pity upon the poor, lendeth to the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.
Quien se apiada del pobre, presta a Yahvé, el cual le recompensará su obra.
18 Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying.
Castiga a tu hijo, pues hay esperanza; pero no te dejes llevar a darle muerte.
19 A man of great wrath shall suffer punishment: for if thou deliver [him], yet thou must do it again.
El que mucho se aíra sufrirá penas, de las cuales aun cuando le libras has de sacarle siempre de nuevo.
20 Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.
Escucha el consejo, y acepta la corrección, para que seas sabio en tu fin.
21 [There are] many devices in a man's heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.
Muchos proyectos hay en el corazón del hombre, pero siempre se cumple el designio de Yahvé.
22 The desire of a man [is] his kindness: and a poor man [is] better than a liar.
Al hombre le gusta ser compasivo; más vale ser pobre que mentiroso.
23 The fear of the LORD [tendeth] to life: and [he that hath it] shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.
El temor de Yahvé conduce a la vida; así queda (el hombre) satisfecho y libre de todo mal.
24 A slothful [man] hideth his hand in [his] bosom, and will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.
El haragán mete su mano en el plato, pero no la lleva a su boca.
25 Smite a scorner and the simple will beware: and reprove one that hath understanding, [and] he will understand knowledge.
Castiga al burlador, y se hace cuerdo el necio; amonesta al sensato y entenderá la sabiduría.
26 He that wasteth [his] father, [and] chaseth away [his] mother, [is] a son that causeth shame, and bringeth reproach.
Quien maltrata a su padre y echa de sí a su madre, es un hijo desvergonzado y sin honor.
27 Cease, my son, to hear the instruction [that causeth] to err from the words of knowledge.
Hijo mío, si dejas de oír consejos, te desviarás de las palabras de la sabiduría.
28 An ungodly witness scorneth judgment: and the mouth of the wicked devoureth iniquity.
El testigo perverso se ríe de la justicia; y la boca de los impíos se traga la iniquidad.
29 Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools.
Los castigos han sido hechos para los burladores, y los azotes para las espaldas de los insensatos.
