Proverbs 18
1 Through desire a man, having separated himself, seeketh [and] intermeddleth with all wisdom.
जो अपने आप को सब से अलग रखता है, अपनी ख़्वाहिश का तालिब है, और हर मा'कूल बात से बरहम होता है।
2 A fool hath no delight in understanding, but that his heart may reveal itself.
बेवक़ूफ़ समझ से ख़ुश नहीं होता, लेकिन सिर्फ़ इस से कि अपने दिल का हाल ज़ाहिर करे।
3 When the wicked cometh, [then] cometh also contempt, and with ignominy reproach.
शरीर के साथ हिकारत आती है, और रुस्वाई के साथ ना क़द्री।
4 The words of a man's mouth [are as] deep waters, [and] the well-spring of wisdom [as] a flowing brook.
इंसान के मुँह की बातें गहरे पानी की तरह है और हिकमत का चश्मा बहता नाला है।
5 [It is] not good to accept the person of the wicked, to overthrow the righteous in judgment.
शरीर की तरफ़दारी करना, या 'अदालत में सादिक़ से बेइन्साफ़ी करना, अच्छा नहीं।
6 A fool's lips enter into contention, and his mouth calleth for strokes.
बेवक़ूफ़ के होंट फ़ितनाअंगेज़ी करते हैं, और उसका मुँह तमाँचों के लिए पुकारता है।
7 A fool's mouth [is] his destruction, and his lips [are] the snare of his soul.
बेवक़ूफ़ का मुँह उसकी हलाकत है, और उसके होंट उसकी जान के लिए फन्दा हैं।
8 The words of a tale-bearer [are] as wounds, and they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.
ग़ैबतगो की बातें लज़ीज़ निवाले हैं और वह खू़ब हज़्म हो जाती हैं।
9 He also that is slothful in his work is brother to him that is a great waster.
काम में सुस्ती करने वाला, फ़ुज़ूल ख़र्च का भाई है।
10 The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.
ख़ुदावन्द का नाम मज़बूत बुर्ज है, सादिक़ उस में भाग जाता है और अम्न में रहता है
11 The rich man's wealth [is] his strong city, and as a high wall in his own conceit.
दौलतमन्द आदमी का माल उसका मज़बूत शहर, और उसके तसव्वुर में ऊँची दीवार की तरह है।
12 Before destruction the heart of man is haughty, and before honor [is] humility.
आदमी के दिल में तकब्बुर हलाकत का पेशरौ है, और फ़रोतनी 'इज़्ज़त की पेशवा।
13 He that answereth a matter before he heareth [it], it [is] folly and shame to him.
जो बात सुनने से पहले उसका जवाब दे, यह उसकी बेवक़ूफ़ी और शर्मिन्दगी है।
14 The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; but a wounded spirit who can bear?
इंसान की रूह उसकी नातवानी में उसे संभालेगी, लेकिन अफ़सुर्दा दिली को कौन बर्दाश्त कर सकता है?
15 The heart of the prudent getteth knowledge; and the ear of the wise seeketh knowledge.
होशियार का दिल 'इल्म हासिल करता है, और 'अक़्लमन्द के कान 'इल्म के तालिब हैं।
16 A man's gift maketh room for him, and bringeth him before great men.
आदमी का नज़राना उसके लिए जगह कर लेता है, और बड़े आदमियों के सामने उसकी रसाई कर देता है।
17 [He that is] first in his own cause [seemeth] just; but his neighbor cometh and searcheth him.
जो पहले अपना दा'वा बयान करता है रास्त मा'लूम होता है, लेकिन दूसरा आकर उसकी हक़ीक़त ज़ाहिर करता है।
18 The lot causeth contentions to cease, and parteth between the mighty.
पर्ची झगड़ों को ख़त्म करती है, और ज़बरदस्तों के बीच फ़ैसला कर देती है।
19 A brother offended [is harder to be won] than a strong city: and [their] contentions [are] like the bars of a castle.
नाराज़ भाई को राज़ी करना मज़बूत शहर ले लेने से ज़्यादा मुश्किल है, और झगड़े क़िले' के बेंडों की तरह हैं।
20 A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; [and] with the increase of his lips shall he be filled.
आदमी की पेट उसके मुँह के फल से भरता है, और वहअपने लबों की पैदावार से सेर होता है।
21 Death and life [are] in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit of it.
मौत और ज़िन्दगी ज़बान के क़ाबू में हैं, और जो उसे दोस्त रखते हैं उसका फल खाते हैं।
22 [Whoever] findeth a wife findeth a good [thing], and obtaineth favor from the LORD.
जिसको बीवी मिली उसने तोहफ़ा पाया, और उस पर ख़ुदावन्द का फ़ज़ल हुआ।
23 The poor useth entreaties; but the rich answereth roughly.
मुहताज मिन्नत समाजत करता है, लेकिन दौलतमन्द सख़्त जवाब देता है।
24 A man [that hath] friends must show himself friendly: and there is a friend [that] sticketh closer than a brother.
जो बहुतों से दोस्ती करता है अपनी बर्बादी के लिए करता है, लेकिन ऐसा दोस्त भी है जो भाई से ज़्यादा मुहब्बत रखता है।
