Proverbs 17
1 Better [is] a dry morsel, and quietness with it, than a house full of sacrifices [with] strife.
১দ্বন্দ্বযুক্ত ভোজে পরিপূর্ণ বাড়ির থেকে শান্তিযুক্ত এক শুকনো রুটির টুকরোও ভাল।
2 A wise servant shall have rule over a son that causeth shame, and shall have part of the inheritance among the brethren.
২একজন বুদ্ধিমান দাস ছেলের ওপর কর্তৃত্ব করবে যে লজ্জাজনক কাজ করে এবং ভাইদের মধ্যে সে অধিকারের অংশী হয়।
3 The fining-pot [is] for silver, and the furnace for gold: but the LORD trieth the hearts.
৩রূপার জন্য ধাতু গলাবার পাত্র ও সোনার জন্য অগ্নিকুন্ড, কিন্তু সদাপ্রভু হৃদয়ের পরীক্ষা করেন।
4 A wicked doer giveth heed to false lips: [and] a liar giveth ear to a naughty tongue.
৪একজন লোক খারাপ কথা শোনে যে মন্দ কথা বলে; যে মন্দ বিষয় বলে মিথ্যাবাদী তাতে মনোযোগ দেয়।
5 He that mocketh the poor reproacheth his Maker; [and] he that is glad at calamities shall not be unpunished.
৫যে গরিবকে উপহাস করে, সে তার নির্মাতাকে অপমান করে; যে বিপদে আনন্দ করে, সে অদণ্ডিত থাকবে না।
6 Children's children [are] the crown of old men; and the glory of children [is] their fathers.
৬নাতিরা বয়ষ্কদের মুকুট এবং বাবা মা তাদের সন্তানদের সম্মান নিয়ে আসে।
7 Excellent speech becometh not a fool: much less do lying lips a prince.
৭সুস্পষ্ট বক্তব্য নির্বোধদের জন্য উপযুক্ত নয়।
8 A gift [is as] a precious stone in the eyes of him that hath it: whithersoever it turneth, it prospereth.
৮ঘুষ জাদু পাথরের মতো যে এটা দেয়; তা যে দিকে ফিরে, সেই দিকে সফল হয়।
9 He that covereth a transgression seeketh love; but he that repeateth a matter separateth [very] friends.
৯যে অপরাধ উপেক্ষা করে, সে প্রেমের খোঁজ করে, কিন্তু যে এক বিষয় বার বার বলে, সে ঘনিষ্ট বন্ধুর মধ্যে বিভেদ সৃষ্টি করে।
10 A reproof entereth more into a wise man than a hundred stripes into a fool.
১০বুদ্ধিমানের মনে ভর্ত্সনা যত লাগে, নির্বোধের মনে একশো প্রহারও তত লাগে না।
11 An evil [man] seeketh only rebellion: therefore a cruel messenger shall be sent against him.
১১খারাপ লোক শুধু বিদ্রোহের চেষ্টা করে, অতএব তার বিরুদ্ধে নিষ্ঠুর দূত পাঠানো হবে।
12 Let a bear robbed of her whelps meet a man, rather than a fool in his folly.
১২অজ্ঞানতা-মগ্ন নির্বোধের সাথে সাক্ষাৎ করার থেকে অপহৃত ভল্লূকীর মানুষের সাথে সাক্ষাৎ করা ভালো।
13 Whoever rewardeth evil for good, evil shall not depart from his house.
১৩যখন কেউ উপকারের বদলে অপকার করে, অপকার তার বাড়ি ত্যাগ করবে না।
14 The beginning of strife [is as] when one letteth out water: therefore withdraw from contention, before it be meddled with.
১৪বিবাদের শুরু হল এমন যে কেউ প্রত্যেক জায়গায় জল ছাড়ে; অতএব ভেঙে যাবার আগে বিতর্ক থেকে সরে যাও।
15 He that justifieth the wicked, and he that condemneth the just, even they both [are] abomination to the LORD.
১৫যে দুষ্টকে নির্দোষ বলে প্রমাণ করে ও যে ধার্ম্মিককে দোষী করে, তারা উভয়েই সদাপ্রভুর ঘৃণার পাত্র।
16 Why [is there] a price in the hand of a fool to get wisdom, seeing [he hath] no heart [to it]?
১৬নির্বোধ প্রজ্ঞা শেখার জন্য কেন অর্থ দেবে, যখন তার শেখার জন্য কোনো দক্ষতা নেই?
17 A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.
১৭বন্ধু সবদিনের ভালবাসে এবং ভাই কষ্টের জন্য জন্মায়।
18 A man void of understanding striketh hands, [and] becometh surety in the presence of his friend.
১৮একজন লোক যার কোনো জ্ঞান নেই সে প্রতিশ্রুতির বন্ধন তৈরী করে এবং তার প্রতিবেশীর ঋণের জন্য দায়ী হয়।
19 He loveth transgression that loveth strife: [and] he that exalteth his gate seeketh destruction.
১৯যে দ্বন্দ্ব ভালবাসে, সে অধর্ম্ম ভালবাসে; ঔদ্ধত্যপূর্ণ ভাবে কথা বলে সে বিপদকে আমন্ত্রণ দেয়।
20 He that hath a froward heart findeth no good: and he that hath a perverse tongue falleth into mischief.
২০যে কুটিল হৃদয়ের, সে ভালোর খোঁজ করে না; যার জিহ্বা বিকৃত, সে বিপদে পড়ে।
21 He that begetteth a fool [doeth it] to his sorrow: and the father of a fool hath no joy.
২১যে নির্বোধের জন্ম দেয় সে নিজের দুর্দশা আনে; যে মূর্খের বাবা সে আনন্দ করতে পারে না।
22 A merry heart doeth good [like] a medicine: but a broken spirit drieth the bones.
২২আনন্দিত হৃদয় হল ভালো ওষুধ; কিন্তু ভগ্ন আত্মা হাড় শুকনো করে।
23 A wicked [man] taketh a gift out of the bosom to pervert the ways of judgment.
২৩দুষ্ট লোক গোপনে ঘুষ গ্রহণ করে, ন্যায়বিচারের পথ বিকৃত করার জন্য।
24 Wisdom [is] before him that hath understanding; but the eyes of a fool [are] in the ends of the earth.
২৪বুদ্ধিমানের মুখের সামনেই প্রজ্ঞা থাকে; কিন্তু নির্বোধের দৃষ্টি পৃথিবীর শেষে যায়।
25 A foolish son [is] a grief to his father, and bitterness to her that bore him.
২৫নির্বোধ ছেলে নিজের বাবার গভীর দুঃখস্বরূপ এবং যে নারী তাকে জন্ম দিয়েছে তার তিক্ততাস্বরূপ।
26 Also to punish the just [is] not good, [nor] to strike princes for equity.
২৬এছাড়াও, যে সঠিক কাজ করে তার কখনো শাস্তি দেওয়া উচিত নয়; মহান মানুষ যার সততা আছে তাকে প্রহার করা এটা ভালো নয়।
27 He that hath knowledge spareth his words: [and] a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit.
২৭যার জ্ঞান আছে সে কিছু শব্দ ব্যবহার করে এবং যে শান্ত হৃদয়ের, সে বুদ্ধিমান।
28 Even a fool, when he holdeth his peace, is counted wise: [and] he that shutteth his lips [is esteemed] a man of understanding.
২৮এমনকি নির্বোধও নীরব থাকলে জ্ঞানবান বলে বিবেচিত হয়; যখন সে মুখ বন্ধ রাখে সে বুদ্ধিমান বলে বিবেচিত হয়।
