Proverbs 14
1 Every wise woman buildeth her house: but the foolish plucketh it down with her hands.
Αι σοφαί γυναίκες οικοδομούσι τον οίκον αυτών· η δε άφρων κατασκάπτει αυτόν διά των χειρών αυτής.
2 He that walketh in his uprightness feareth the LORD: but [he that is] perverse in his ways despiseth him.
Ο περιπατών εν τη ευθύτητι αυτού φοβείται τον Κύριον· ο δε σκολιός τας οδούς αυτού καταφρονεί αυτόν.
3 In the mouth of the foolish [is] a rod of pride: but the lips of the wise shall preserve them.
Εν στόματι άφρονος είναι η ράβδος της υπερηφανίας· τα δε χείλη των σοφών θέλουσι φυλάττει αυτούς.
4 Where no oxen [are], the crib [is] clean: but much increase [is] by the strength of the ox.
Όπου δεν είναι βόες, η αποθήκη είναι κενή· η δε αφθονία των γεννημάτων είναι εκ της δυνάμεως του βοός.
5 A faithful witness will not lie: but a false witness will utter lies.
Ο αληθής μάρτυς δεν θέλει ψεύδεσθαι· ο δε ψευδής μάρτυς εκχέει ψεύδη.
6 A scorner seeketh wisdom, and [findeth it] not: but knowledge [is] easy to him that understandeth.
Ο χλευαστής ζητεί σοφίαν και δεν ευρίσκει· εις δε τον συνετόν είναι εύκολος η μάθησις.
7 Go from the presence of a foolish man, when thou perceivest not [in him] the lips of knowledge.
Ύπαγε κατέναντι του άφρονος ανθρώπου και δεν θέλεις ευρεί χείλη συνέσεως.
8 The wisdom of the prudent [is] to understand his way: but the folly of fools [is] deceit.
Η σοφία του φρονίμου είναι να γνωρίζη την οδόν αυτού· η δε μωρία των αφρόνων αποπλάνησις.
9 Fools make a mock at sin: but among the righteous [there is] favor.
Οι άφρονες γελώσιν εις την ανομίαν· εν μέσω δε των ευθέων είναι χάρις.
10 The heart knoweth its own bitterness; and a stranger doth not intermeddle with its joy.
Η καρδία του ανθρώπου γνωρίζει την πικρίαν της ψυχής αυτού· και ξένος δεν συμμετέχει της χαράς αυτής.
11 The house of the wicked shall be overthrown: but the tabernacle of the upright shall flourish.
Η οικία των ασεβών θέλει αφανισθή· η δε σκηνή των ευθέων θέλει ανθεί.
12 There is a way which seemeth right to a man, but the end of it [are] the ways of death.
Υπάρχει οδός, ήτις φαίνεται ορθή εις τον άνθρωπον, αλλά τα τέλη αυτής φέρουσιν εις θάνατον.
13 Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; and the end of that mirth [is] heaviness.
Έτι και εις τον γέλωτα πονεί η καρδία· και το τέλος της χαράς είναι λύπη.
14 The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man [shall be satisfied] from himself.
Ο διεφθαρμένος την καρδίαν θέλει εμπλησθή από των οδών αυτού· ο δε αγαθός άνθρωπος αφ' εαυτού.
15 The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.
Ο απλούς πιστεύει εις πάντα λόγον· ο δε φρόνιμος προσέχει εις τα βήματα αυτού.
16 A wise [man] feareth, and departeth from evil: but the fool rageth, and is confident.
Ο σοφός φοβείται και φεύγει από του κακού· αλλ' ο άφρων προχωρεί και θρασύνεται.
17 [He that is] soon angry dealeth foolishly: and a man of wicked devices is hated.
Ο οξύθυμος πράττει αστοχάστως· και ο κακόβουλος άνθρωπος είναι μισητός.
18 The simple inherit folly: but the prudent are crowned with knowledge.
Οι άφρονες κληρονομούσι μωρίαν· οι δε φρόνιμοι στεφανούνται σύνεσιν.
19 The evil bow before the good; and the wicked at the gates of the righteous.
Οι κακοί υποκλίνουσιν έμπροσθεν των αγαθών, και οι ασεβείς εις τας πύλας των δικαίων.
20 The poor is hated even by his own neighbor: but the rich [hath] many friends.
Ο πτωχός μισείται και υπό του πλησίον αυτού· του δε πλουσίου οι φίλοι πολλοί.
21 He that despiseth his neighbor sinneth: but he that hath mercy on the poor, happy [is] he.
Ο καταφρονών τον πλησίον αυτού αμαρτάνει· ο δε ελεών τους πτωχούς είναι μακάριος.
22 Do they not err that devise evil? but mercy and truth [shall be] to them that devise good.
Δεν πλανώνται οι βουλευόμενοι κακόν; έλεος όμως και αλήθεια θέλει είσθαι εις τους βουλευομένους αγαθόν.
23 In all labor there is profit: but the talk of the lips [tendeth] only to penury.
Εν παντί κόπω υπάρχει κέρδος· η δε φλυαρία των χειλέων φέρει μόνον εις ένδειαν.
24 The crown of the wise [is] their riches: [but] the foolishness of fools [is] folly.
Τα πλούτη των σοφών είναι στέφανος εις αυτούς· των δε αφρόνων η υπεροχή μωρία.
25 A true witness delivereth souls: but a deceitful [witness] speaketh lies.
Ο αληθής μάρτυς ελευθερόνει ψυχάς· ο δε δόλιος εκχέει ψεύδη.
26 In the fear of the LORD [is] strong confidence: and his children shall have a place of refuge.
Εν τω φόβω του Κυρίου είναι ελπίς ισχυρά· και εις τα τέκνα αυτού θέλει υπάρχει καταφύγιον.
27 The fear of the LORD [is] a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.
Ο φόβος του Κυρίου είναι πηγή ζωής, απομακρύνων από παγίδων θανάτου.
28 In the multitude of people [is] the king's honor: but in the want of people [is] the destruction of the prince.
Εν τω πλήθει του λαού είναι η δόξα του βασιλέως· εν δε τη ελλείψει του λαού ο αφανισμός του ηγεμονεύοντος.
29 [He that is] slow to wrath [is] of great understanding: but [he that is] hasty of spirit exalteth folly.
Ο μακρόθυμος έχει μεγάλην φρόνησιν· ο δε οξύθυμος ανεγείρει την αφροσύνην αυτού.
30 A sound heart [is] the life of the flesh: but envy the rottenness of the bones.
Η υγιαίνουσα καρδία είναι ζωή της σαρκός· ο δε φθόνος σαπρία των οστέων.
31 He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker: but he that honoreth him hath mercy on the poor.
Ο καταθλίβων τον πένητα ονειδίζει τον Ποιητήν αυτού· ο δε τιμών αυτόν ελεεί τον πτωχόν.
32 The wicked is driven away in his wickedness: but the righteous hath hope in his death.
Ο ασεβής εκτινάσσεται εν τη ασεβεία αυτού· ο δε δίκαιος και εν τω θανάτω αυτού έχει ελπίδα.
33 Wisdom resteth in the heart of him that hath understanding: but [that which is] in the midst of fools is made known.
Εν τη καρδία του συνετού επαναπαύεται σοφία· εν μέσω δε των αφρόνων φανερούται.
34 Righteousness exalteth a nation: but sin [is] a reproach to any people.
Η δικαιοσύνη υψόνει έθνος· η δε αμαρτία είναι όνειδος λαών.
35 The king's favor [is] towards a wise servant: but his wrath is [against] him that causeth shame.
Εύνοια του βασιλέως είναι προς φρόνιμον δούλον· θυμός δε αυτού προς τον προξενούντα αισχύνην.
