Matthew 18
1 At the same time came the disciples to Jesus, saying, Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?
En ce moment-là les disciples s’approchèrent de Jésus, disant: Qui, pensez-vous, est le plus grand dans le royaume des cieux?
2 And Jesus called a little child to him, and set him in the midst of them,
Et Jésus appelant un petit enfant, le plaça au milieu d’eux,
3 And said, Verily I say to you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven.
Et dit: En vérité, je vous le dis, si vous ne vous convertissez, et ne devenez comme les petits enfants, vous n’entrerez point dans le royaume des cieux.
4 Whoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
Quiconque donc se fait petit comme cet enfant, celui-là est le plus grand dans le royaume des cieux.
5 And whoever shall receive one such little child in my name, receiveth me.
Et qui reçoit en mon nom un petit enfant semblable, me reçoit.
6 But whoever shall cause one of these little ones who believe in me, to sin, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and [that] he were drowned in the depth of the sea.
Mais celui qui scandalise un de ces petits qui croient en moi, il vaudrait mieux pour lui que l’on suspendît une meule de moulin à son cou, et qu’on le précipitât au profond de la mer.
7 Woe to the world because of offenses! for it must needs be that offenses come; but woe to that man by whom the offense cometh!
Malheur au monde, à cause des scandales; car il est nécessaire qu’il vienne des scandales: cependant malheur à l’homme par qui le scandale arrive.
8 Wherefore, if thy hand or thy foot causeth thee to sin, cut them off, and cast [them] from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet, to be cast into everlasting fire. (aiōnios g166)
Si donc, ta main ou ton pied te scandalise, coupe-le, et jette-le loin de toi; il vaut mieux pour toi entrer dans la vie, privé d’une main ou d’un pied, que d’être jeté, ayant deux mains ou deux pieds, dans le feu éternel. (aiōnios g166)
9 And if thy eye causeth thee to sin, pluck it out, and cast [it] from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes, to be cast into hell-fire. (Geenna g1067)
Et si ton œil te scandalise, arrache-le et le jette loin de toi; il vaut mieux pour toi entrer dans la vie avec un seul œil, que d’être jeté ayant deux yeux dans la géhenne du feu. (Geenna g1067)
10 Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones: for I say to you, that in heaven their angels do always behold the face of my Father who is in heaven.
Prenez garde de mépriser un seul de ces petits; parce que, je vous le dis, leurs anges voient sans cesse dans le ciel la face de mon Père qui est dans les cieux.
11 For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost.
Car le Fils de l’homme est venu sauver ce qui avait péri.
12 How think ye? if a man hath a hundred sheep, and one of them is gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and go to the mountains, and seek that which is gone astray?
Que vous en semble? Si quelqu’un a cent brebis, et qu’une d’elles s’égare, ne laisse-t-il pas les quatre-vingt-dix-neuf dans les montagnes, et ne s’en va-t-il pas chercher celle qui s’est égarée?
13 And if he findeth it, verily I say to you, he rejoiceth more over that [sheep], than over the ninety and nine which went not astray.
Et s’il arrive qu’il la trouve, en vérité, je vous dis, elle lui donne plus de joie que les quatre vingt-dix-neuf qui ne se sont pas égarées.
14 Even so it is not the will of your Father who is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish.
Ainsi ce n’est pas la volonté de votre Père qui est dans les deux, qu’un seul de ces petits périsse.
15 Moreover, if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother.
Si ton frère a péché contre toi, va et reprends-le entre toi et lui seul: s’il t’écoute, tu auras gagné ton frère;
16 But if he will not hear [thee], [then] take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established.
S’il ne t’écoute point, prends encore avec toi une ou deux personnes, afin que sur la parole de deux ou trois témoins tout soit avéré.
17 And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell [it] to the church: but if he shall neglect to hear the church, let him be to thee as a heathen and a publican.
Que s’il ne les écoute point, dis-le à l’Église; et s’il n’écoute point l’Église, qu’il te soit comme un païen et un publicain.
18 Verily I say to you, Whatever ye shall bind on earth, shall be bound in heaven: and whatever ye shall loose on earth, shall be loosed in heaven.
En vérité, je vous le dis, tout ce que vous lierez sur la terre, sera lié aussi dans le ciel: et tout ce que vous délierez sur la terre, sera délié aussi dans le ciel.
19 Again I say to you, That if two of you shall agree on earth, concerning any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them by my Father who is in heaven.
Je vous dis encore, que si deux d’entre vous s’accordent sur la terre, quelque chose qu’ils demandent, il le leur sera fait par mon Père qui est dans les cieux.
20 For where two or three are assembled in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
Car là où deux ou trois sont réunis en mon nom, je suis au milieu d’eux.
21 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?
Alors, s’approchant, Pierre lui dit: Seigneur, combien de fois, mon frère péchant contre moi, lui pardonnerai-je? jusqu’à sept fois?
22 Jesus saith to him, I say not to thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.
Jésus lui dit: Je ne te dis pas jusqu’à sept fois, mais jusqu’à septante fois sept fois.
23 Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened to a certain king who would take account of his servants.
C’est pourquoi le royaume des cieux est comparé à un homme-roi qui voulut compter avec ses serviteurs.
24 And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents.
Or, lorsqu’il eut commencé à compter, on lui en présenta un qui lui devait dix mille talents.
25 But as he had not ability to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.
Et comme il n’avait pas de quoi les rendre, son maître ordonna qu’on le vendît, lui, sa femme et ses filles, et tout ce qu’il avait, et qu’on payât.
26 The servant therefore fell down, and worshiped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.
Mais se jetant à ses pieds, le serviteur le priait, disant: Ayez patience à mon égard, et je vous rendrai tout.
27 Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt.
Alors le maître de ce serviteur ayant pitié de lui, le renvoya et lui remit sa dette.
28 But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellow-servants, who owed him a hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took [him] by the throat, saying, Pay me what thou owest.
Mais ce serviteur étant sorti, rencontra un de ses compagnons qui lui devait cent deniers; et l’ayant saisi, il l’étouffait, disant: Rends-moi ce que tu dois.
29 And his fellow-servant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.
Et se jetant à ses pieds, son compagnon le priait, disant: Aie patience à mon égard, et je te rendrai tout.
30 And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt.
Mais lui ne voulut pas; et il s’en alla, et le fit mettre en prison jusqu’à ce qu’il payât sa dette.
31 So when his fellow-servants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told to their lord all that was done.
Voyant ce qui se passait, les autres serviteurs furent grandement contristés; ils vinrent et racontèrent à leur maître tout ce qui s’était fait.
32 Then his lord, having called him, said to him, O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me:
Alors son maître l’appela, et lui dit: Méchant serviteur, je t’ai remis toute ta dette, parce que tu m’as prié:
33 Shouldst thou not also have had compassion on thy fellow-servant, even as I had pity on thee?
Ne fallait-il donc pas que toi aussi tu eusses pitié de ton compagnon, comme j’ai eu moi-même pitié de toi?
34 And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due to him.
Et son maître irrité le livra aux bourreaux, jusqu’à ce qu’il payât toute sa dette.
35 So likewise shall my heavenly Father do to you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses.
C’est ainsi que vous traitera aussi mon Père céleste, si chacun de vous ne pardonne à son frère du fond de son cœur.
