< Matthew 15 >

1 Then came to Jesus scribes and Pharisees, who were of Jerusalem, saying,
Te phoeiah Pharisee rhoek neh cadaek rhoek tah Jerusalem lamloh Jesuh te a paan uh tih,
2 Why do thy disciples transgress the tradition of the elders? for they wash not their hands when they eat bread.
“Balae tih na hnukbang rhoek loh a ham rhoek kah singyoe te a aek uh? Buh a caak uh vaengah a kut sil uh pawh,” a ti na uh.
3 But he answered and said to them, Why do ye also transgress the commandment of God by your tradition?
Tedae amih te a doo tih, “Namamih kah singyoe kongah Pathen kah olpaek te balae tih na aek uh van?
4 For God commanded, saying, Honor thy father and mother: and, He that curseth father or mother, let him die the death.
Pathen loh, ‘Na nu neh na pa te hinyah lah. Tedae manu napa aka thet tah dueknah neh duek saeh,’ a ti.
5 But ye say, Whoever shall say to [his] father or [his] mother, [It is] a gift, by whatever thou mightest be profited by me;
Tedae nangmih loh, 'Hoeikhang vaengah tah, 'Manu napa khaw, te te kamah lamkah hmueih ni,’ a ti coeng atah,
6 And honor not his father or his mother, [he shall be free]. Thus have ye made the commandment of God of no effect by your tradition.
A napa a hinyah pawt moenih,” na ti uh. Te dongah Pathen kah ol te namamih kah singyoe neh na hmil uh.
7 [Ye] hypocrites, well did Isaiah prophesy of you, saying,
Hlangthai palat rhoek, Isaiah loh nangmih kawng te phek a phong tih,
8 This people draw nigh to me with their mouth, and honor me with [their] lips; but their heart is far from me.
Pilnam long he a hmui neh kan n'hinyah uh. Tedae a thinko tah kai lamloh voelh hla coeng.
9 But in vain they do worship me, teaching [for] doctrines the commandments of men.
A poeyoek la kai m'bawk uh tih hlang kah olpaek lamkah thuituennah neh a thuituen uh,’ a ti,” a ti nah.
10 And he called the multitude, and said to them, Hear, and understand:
Te phoeiah hlangping te a khue tih, “Hnatun lamtah hmuhming uh lah.
11 Not that which goeth into the mouth defileth a man; but that which cometh out of the mouth, this defileth a man.
Ka khuila aka kun loh hlang a poeih moenih. Tedae ka lamkah aka thoeng loh hlang a poeih,” a ti nah.
12 Then came his disciples, and said to him, Knowest thou that the Pharisees were offended after they heard this saying?
Te vaengah hnukbang rhoek loh amah a paan uh tih, “Ol he a yaak vaengah Pharisee rhoek a khah te na ming nama?” a ti nah.
13 But he answered and said, Every plant, which my heavenly Father hath not planted, shall be extirpated.
Tedae amah loh a doo tih, “A pa loh a ling mueh thingling boeih te vaan loh a phuk ni.
14 Let them alone: they are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind leadeth the blind, both will fall into the ditch.
Amih te hlah uh, mikdael rhoek tah mikdael rhoek kah longtuengkung ni. Mikdael loh mikdael te longtueng koinih rhom ah bok cungku ni,” a ti nah.
15 Then answered Peter and said to him, Declare to us this parable.
Peter loh a doo tih, “Kekah nuettahnah he kaimih ham thuicaih lah,” a ti nah.
16 And Jesus said, Are ye also yet without understanding?
Tedae Jesuh loh, “Nangmih khaw lungmong kotalh la na om uh pueng a?
17 Do ye not yet understand, that whatever entereth in at the mouth goeth into the belly, and is cast out into the draught?
Ka khuila aka kun boeih te bungpuei la cet tih naat la a pha te na yakming uh pawt nim?
18 But those things which proceed out of the mouth come forth from the heart; and they defile the man.
Tedae ka lamkah aka thoeng tah thinko lamkah ha thoeng dongah hlang a poeih.
19 For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies:
Poeknah a thae, ngawnnah, samphaihnah, Cukhalnah, huencannah, a honghi neh soehsalnah he thinko lamkah ni ha thoeng.
20 These are [the things] which defile a man: but to eat with unwashen hands defileth not a man.
Hekah rhoek long ni hlang a poeih. Tedae kut muen a la aka ca loh hlang a poeih moenih,” a ti nah.
21 Then Jesus went thence, and departed into the territories of Tyre and Sidon.
Te lamloh a caeh phoeiah Jesuh tah Tyre neh Sidon pingpang la khoe uh.
22 And behold, a woman of Canaan came out of the same territories, and cried to him, saying, Have mercy on me, O Lord, [thou] son of David; my daughter is grievously afflicted with a demon.
Te vaengah te rhoek vaang lamkah Kanaan nu pakcak ha thoeng tih a pang doela, “Kai he n'rhen lah, Boeipa, David capa, ka canu tah rhaithae a kaem khuengrhueng,” a ti nah.
23 But he answered her not a word. And his disciples came and besought him, saying, Send her away; for she crieth after us.
Tedae anih te ol lan pawh. Te dongah a hnukbang rhoek loh a paan uh. Amah te a dawt uh tih, “Anih ke kaimih hnukah pang coeng tih tueih laeh,” a ti uh.
24 But he answered and said, I am not sent but to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.
Tedae Jesuh loh a doo tih, “Israel imkhui kah tu aka poci ham pawt koinih n'tueih mahpawh,” a ti nah.
25 Then came she and worshiped him, saying, Lord, help me.
Huta te ha pawk vaengah anih te a bawk tih, “Boeipa, kai m'bom dae,” a ti nah.
26 But he answered and said, It is not meet to take the children's bread, and to cast [it] to dogs.
Tedae a doo vaengah tah, “Ca kah buh te rhawt tih ui ham a tloeng tah a then moenih,” a ti nah.
27 And she said, Truth, Lord: yet the dogs eat of the crums which fall from their master's table.
Tedae te long khaw, “Ue ta, Boeipa, ui pataeng a boei rhoek kah caboei lamkah aka bo buhdik te a caak ta,” a ti nah.
28 Then Jesus answered and said to her, O woman, great [is] thy faith: be it to thee even as thou wilt. And her daughter was healed from that very hour.
Te vaengah Jesuh loh a doo tih, “Aw huta, nang kah tangnah tah len pai, nang ham tah na ngaih bangla om pai saeh,” a ti nah. Tekah a tue lamloh a canu te hoeih.
29 And Jesus departed from thence, and came nigh to the sea of Galilee; and ascended a mountain, and sat down there.
Te lamloh a thoeih vaengah Jesuh tah Galilee tuili la pawk. Te phoeiah tlang la luei tih pahoi ngol.
30 And great multitudes came to him, having with them [those that were] lame, blind, dumb, maimed, and many others, and cast them down at Jesus' feet; and he healed them:
Te vaengah hlangping loh amah te muep a paan uh tih, aka khaem rhoek, mikdael rhoek, aka khawn rhoek, olmueh rhoek neh a tloe boeih te amamih neh a khuen uh. Amih te Jesuh kho kungla pak a voeih uh dongah amih te a hoeih sak.
31 So that the multitude wondered, when they saw the dumb to speak, the maimed to be whole, the lame to walk, and the blind to see: and they glorified the God of Israel.
Olmueh khaw cal, aka khawn khaw a sading, aka khaem khaw cet, mikdael loh a hmuh, te hlangping loh a hmuh vaengah a ngaihmang uh tih, Israel Pathen te a thangpom uh.
32 Then Jesus called his disciples [to him], and said, I have compassion on the multitude, because they continue with me now three days, and have nothing to eat: and I will not send them away fasting, lest they faint in the way.
Jesuh loh a hnukbang rhoek te a khue tih, “Hlangping hamla ka thinphat, kai taengah hnin thum rhaeh uh coeng tih, a caak ham ba khaw khueh uh pawh. Te dongah amih he buhmueh rhathih la tueih ka ngaih pawh. Longpueng ah tawnba uh ve,” a ti nah.
33 And his disciples say to him, Whence should we have so much bread in the wilderness, as to satisfy so great a multitude?
Tedae amah taengah hnukbang rhoek loh, “Vaidam heyet he kohong ah me lamkah nim mamih ham a om eh? Heyet hlangping a hah ham akhaw,” a ti uh.
34 And Jesus saith to them, How many loaves have ye? And they said, Seven, and a few little fishes.
Te dongah Jesuh loh amih te, “Vaidam meyet na khueh uh,” a ti nah. Te vaengah, “Vaidam parhih neh ngadik a yool ni,” a ti na uh.
35 And he commanded the multitude to sit on the ground.
Te phoeiah hlangping te lai ah ngol hamla ol a uen tih,
36 And he took the seven loaves and the fishes, and gave thanks, and broke [them], and gave to his disciples, and the disciples to the multitude.
Vaidam hluem rhih neh nga te a loh tih, a uem, a aeh tih hnukbang rhoek te a paek tih hnukbang rhoek loh hlangping te a doe.
37 And they all ate and were filled: and they took up of the fragments that were left seven baskets full.

38 And they that had eaten were four thousand men, besides women and children.
