Malachi 1
1 The burden of the word of the LORD to Israel by Malachi.
マラキによってイスラエルに臨んだ主の言葉の託宣。
2 I have loved you, saith the LORD. Yet ye say, In what hast thou loved us? [Was] not Esau Jacob's brother? saith the LORD: yet I loved Jacob,
主は言われる、「わたしはあなたがたを愛した」と。ところがあなたがたは言う、「あなたはどんなふうに、われわれを愛されたか」。主は言われる、「エサウはヤコブの兄ではないか。しかしわたしはヤコブを愛し、
3 And I hated Esau, and laid his mountains and his heritage waste for the dragons of the wilderness.
エサウを憎んだ。かつ、わたしは彼の山地を荒し、その嗣業を荒野の山犬に与えた」。
4 Whereas Edom saith, We are impoverished, but we will return and build the desolate places; thus saith the LORD of hosts, They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall call them, The border of wickedness, and, The people against whom the LORD hath indignation for ever.
もしエドムが「われわれは滅ぼされたけれども、荒れた所を再び建てる」と言うならば、万軍の主は「彼らは建てるかもしれない。しかしわたしはそれを倒す。人々は、彼らを悪しき国ととなえ、とこしえに主の怒りをうける民ととなえる」と言われる。
5 And your eyes shall see, and ye shall say, The LORD will be magnified from the border of Israel.
あなたがたの目はこれを見て、「主はイスラエルの境を越えて大いなる神である」と言うであろう。
6 A son honoreth [his] father, and a servant his master: if then I [am] a father, where [is] my honor? and if I [am] a master, where [is] my fear? saith the LORD of hosts to you, O priests, that despise my name. And ye say, In what have we despised thy name?
「子はその父を敬い、しもべはその主人を敬う。それでわたしがもし父であるならば、あなたがたのわたしを敬う事実が、どこにあるか。わたしがもし主人であるならば、わたしを恐れる事実が、どこにあるか。わたしの名を侮る祭司たちよ、と万軍の主はあなたがたに言われる。ところがあなたがたは『われわれはどんなふうにあなたの名を侮ったか』と言い、
7 Ye offer polluted bread upon my altar? and ye say, In what have we polluted thee? In that ye say, The table of the LORD [is] contemptible.
汚れた食物をわたしの祭壇の上にささげる。またあなたがたは、主の台は卑しむべき物であると考えて、『われわれはどんなふうに、それを汚したか』と言う。
8 And if ye offer the blind for sacrifice, [is it] not evil? and if ye offer the lame and sick, [is it] not evil? offer it now to thy governor; will he be pleased with thee, or accept thy person? saith the LORD of hosts.
あなたがたが盲目の獣を、犠牲にささげるのは悪い事ではないか。また足のなえたもの、病めるものをささげるのは悪い事ではないか。今これをあなたのつかさにささげてみよ。彼はあなたを喜び、あなたを受けいれるであろうかと、万軍の主は言われる。
9 And now, I pray you, beseech God that he will be gracious to us: this hath been by your means: will he regard your person? saith the LORD of hosts.
あなたがたは、神がわれわれをあわれまれるように、神の恵みを求めてみよ。このようなあなたがたの手のささげ物をもって、彼はあなたがたを受けいれられるであろうかと、万軍の主は言われる。
10 Who [is there] even among you that would shut the doors [for nought]? neither do ye kindle [fire] on my altar for naught. I have no pleasure in you, saith the LORD of hosts, neither will I accept an offering at your hand.
あなたがたがわが祭壇の上にいたずらに、火をたくことのないように戸を閉じる者があなたがたのうちに、ひとりあったらいいのだが。わたしはあなたがたを喜ばない、またあなたがたの手からささげ物を受けないと、万軍の主は言われる。
11 For from the rising of the sun even to the setting of the same, my name [shall be] great among the Gentiles; and in every place incense [shall be] offered to my name, and a pure offering: for my name [shall be] great among the heathen, saith the LORD of hosts.
日の出る所から没する所まで、国々のうちにわが名はあがめられている。また、どこでも香と清いささげ物が、わが名のためにささげられる。これはわが名が国々のうちにあがめられているからであると、万軍の主は言われる。
12 But ye have profaned it, in that ye say, The table of the LORD [is] polluted; and the fruit of it, [even] his provision, is contemptible.
ところがあなたがたは、主の台は汚れている、またこの食物は卑しむべき物であると言って、これを汚した。
13 Ye said also, Behold, what a weariness [is it]! and ye have snuffed at it, saith the LORD of hosts; and ye brought [that which was] torn, and the lame, and the sick; thus ye brought an offering: should I accept this from your hand? saith the LORD.
あなたがたはまた『これはなんと煩わしい事か』と言って、わたしを鼻であしらうと、万軍の主は言われる。あなたがたはまた奪った物、足なえのもの、病めるものを、ささげ物として携えて来る。わたしはそれを、あなたがたの手から、受けるであろうかと主は言われる。
14 But cursed [be] the deceiver, who hath in his flock a male, and voweth, and sacrificeth to the LORD a corrupt thing: for I [am] a great King, saith the LORD of hosts, and my name [is] dreadful among the heathen.
群れのうちに雄の獣があり、それをささげると誓いを立てているのに、傷のあるものを、主にささげる偽り者はのろわれる。わたしは大いなる王で、わが名は国々のうちに恐れられるべきであると、万軍の主は言われる。
