Luke 23
1 And the whole multitude of them arose, and led him to Pilate.
Toda la compañía se levantó y le llevó ante Pilato.
2 And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this [man] perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Cesar, saying, that he himself is Christ a king.
Comenzaron a acusarle, diciendo: “Hemos encontrado a este hombre pervirtiendo a la nación, prohibiendo pagar los impuestos al César y diciendo que él mismo es el Cristo, un rey.”
3 And Pilate asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answered him and said, Thou sayest [it].
Pilato le preguntó: “¿Eres tú el rey de los judíos?” Le respondió: “Eso dices tú”.
4 Then said Pilate to the chief priests, and [to] the people, I find no fault in this man.
Pilato dijo a los jefes de los sacerdotes y a la multitud: “No encuentro fundamento para una acusación contra este hombre”.
5 And they were the more fierce, saying, He stirreth up the people, teaching throughout all Judea, beginning from Galilee to this place.
Pero ellos insistieron, diciendo: “Él agita al pueblo, enseñando en toda Judea, comenzando desde Galilea hasta este lugar.”
6 When Pilate heard of Galilee, he asked whether the man was a Galilean.
Pero cuando Pilato oyó mencionar a Galilea, preguntó si el hombre era galileo.
7 And as soon as he knew that he belonged to Herod's jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who himself was also at Jerusalem at that time.
Al enterarse de que estaba en la jurisdicción de Herodes, lo envió a Herodes, que también estaba en Jerusalén en esos días.
8 And when Herod saw Jesus, he was exceeding glad: for he had been for a long time, desirous to see him, because he had heard many things of him; and he hoped to see some miracle done by him.
Cuando Herodes vio a Jesús, se alegró mucho, pues hacía tiempo que quería verlo, porque había oído hablar mucho de él. Esperaba ver algún milagro hecho por él.
9 Then he questioned with him in many words; but he answered him nothing.
Lo interrogó con muchas palabras, pero no le respondió.
10 And the chief priests and scribes stood and vehemently accused him.
Los jefes de los sacerdotes y los escribas estaban de pie, acusándolo con vehemencia.
11 And Herod with his troops set him at naught, and mocked [him], and arrayed him in a gorgeous robe, and sent him again to Pilate.
Herodes y sus soldados lo humillaron y se burlaron de él. Vistiéndolo con ropas lujosas, lo enviaron de vuelta a Pilato.
12 And the same day Pilate and Herod were made friends together; for before they were at enmity between themselves.
Ese mismo día Herodes y Pilato se hicieron amigos entre sí, pues antes eran enemigos entre sí.
13 And Pilate, when he had called together the chief priests, and the rulers, and the people,
Pilato convocó a los jefes de los sacerdotes, a los gobernantes y al pueblo,
14 Said to them, Ye have brought this man to me, as one that perverteth the people: and behold, I, having examined [him] before you, have found no fault in this man, touching those things of which ye accuse him;
y les dijo: “Me habéis traído a este hombre como a uno que pervierte al pueblo, y he aquí, habiéndolo examinado delante de vosotros, no he encontrado fundamento para acusar a este hombre de las cosas de que le acusáis.
15 No, nor yet Herod: for I sent you to him; and lo, nothing worthy of death is done to him:
Tampoco lo ha hecho Herodes, pues os he enviado a él, y ved que no ha hecho nada digno de muerte.
16 I will therefore chastise him, and release [him].
Por lo tanto, lo castigaré y lo liberaré”.
17 (For of necessity he must release one to them at the feast.)
Ahora bien, tenía que soltarles un prisionero en la fiesta.
18 And they cried out all at once, saying, Away with this [man], and release to us Barabbas:
Pero todos gritaron juntos, diciendo: “¡Quita a este hombre! Y suéltanos a Barrabás!
19 (Who, for a certain sedition made in the city, and for murder, was cast into prison.)
que había sido encarcelado por una revuelta en la ciudad y por asesinato.
20 Pilate therefore, willing to release Jesus, spoke again to them.
Entonces Pilato les habló de nuevo, queriendo liberar a Jesús,
21 But they cried, saying, Crucify, crucify him.
pero ellos gritaron diciendo: “¡Crucifícalo! Crucifícalo!”
22 And he said to them the third time, Why, what evil hath he done? I have found no cause of death in him; I will therefore chastise him, and let [him] go.
La tercera vez les dijo: “¿Por qué? ¿Qué mal ha hecho este hombre? No he encontrado en él ningún delito capital. Por tanto, lo castigaré y lo soltaré”.
23 And they were urgent with loud voices, requiring that he might be crucified: and the voices of them, and of the chief priests prevailed.
Pero ellos urgían a grandes voces, pidiendo que fuera crucificado. Sus voces y las de los jefes de los sacerdotes prevalecieron.
24 And Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they required.
Pilato decretó que se hiciera lo que ellos pedían.
25 And he released to them him that for sedition and murder had been cast into prison, whom they had desired; but he delivered Jesus to their will.
Liberó al que habían metido en la cárcel por insurrección y asesinato, por el que pedían, pero entregó a Jesús a la voluntad de ellos.
26 And as they led him away, they laid hold upon one Simon a Cyrenian, coming out of the country, and on him they laid the cross, that he might bear [it] after Jesus.
Cuando se lo llevaron, agarraron a un tal Simón de Cirene, que venía del campo, y le pusieron la cruz para que la llevara tras Jesús.
27 And there followed him a great company of people, and of women, who also bewailed and lamented him.
Le seguía una gran multitud del pueblo, incluidas las mujeres, que también le lloraban y se lamentaban.
28 But Jesus turning to them, said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children.
Pero Jesús, dirigiéndose a ellas, les dijo: “Hijas de Jerusalén, no lloréis por mí, sino llorad por vosotras y por vuestros hijos.
29 For behold, the days are coming, in which they shall say, Blessed [are] the barren, and the wombs that never bore, and the breasts which never nourished infants.
Porque he aquí que vienen días en que dirán: ‘Benditas sean las estériles, los vientres que nunca dieron a luz y los pechos que nunca amamantaron’.
30 Then shall they begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us; and to the hills, Cover us.
Entonces comenzarán a decir a los montes: “¡Caigan sobre nosotros!” y a las colinas: “Cúbrannos.
31 For if they do these things in a green tree, what will be done in the dry?
Porque si hacen estas cosas en el árbol verde, ¿qué se hará en el seco?”
32 And two others, [who were] malefactors, were led with him to be put to death.
Había también otros, dos delincuentes, conducidos con él para ser ejecutados.
33 And when they had come to the place which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors; one on the right hand, and the other on the left.
Cuando llegaron al lugar que se llama “La Calavera”, lo crucificaron allí con los criminales, uno a la derecha y el otro a la izquierda.
34 Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them: for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots.
Jesús dijo: “Padre, perdónalos, porque no saben lo que hacen”. Repartiendo sus vestidos entre ellos, echaron suertes.
35 And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also with them derided [him], saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if he is Christ the chosen of God.
El pueblo se quedó mirando. Los jefes que estaban con ellos también se burlaban de él, diciendo: “Ha salvado a otros. Que se salve a sí mismo, si éste es el Cristo de Dios, su elegido”.
36 And the soldiers also mocked him, coming to him, and offering him vinegar,
Los soldados también se burlaron de él, acercándose y ofreciéndole vinagre,
37 And saying, If thou art the King of the Jews, save thyself.
y diciendo: “Si eres el Rey de los Judíos, sálvate”.
38 And a superscription also was written over him, in letters of Greek, and Latin, and Hebrew, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.
También se escribió sobre él una inscripción en letras de griego, latín y hebreo: “ESTE ES EL REY DE LOS JUDÍOS”.
39 And one of the malefactors, who were hanged, railed on him, saying, If thou art Christ, save thyself and us.
Uno de los delincuentes ahorcados le insultó diciendo: “¡Si eres el Cristo, sálvate a ti mismo y a nosotros!”.
40 But the other answering, rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?
Pero el otro contestó, y reprendiéndole le dijo: “¿Ni siquiera temes a Dios, viendo que estás bajo la misma condena?
41 And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.
Y nosotros, ciertamente, con justicia, pues recibimos la debida recompensa por nuestras obras, pero este hombre no ha hecho nada malo.”
42 And he said to Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.
Le dijo a Jesús: “Señor, acuérdate de mí cuando vengas a tu Reino”.
43 And Jesus said to him, Verily I say to thee, This day shalt thou be with me in paradise.
Jesús le dijo: “Te aseguro que hoy estarás conmigo en el Paraíso”.
44 And it was about the sixth hour, and there was a darkness over all the land until the ninth hour.
Era ya como la hora sexta, y las tinieblas llegaron a toda la tierra hasta la hora novena.
45 And the sun was darkened, and the vail of the temple was rent in the midst.
El sol se oscureció y el velo del templo se rasgó en dos.
46 And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he expired.
Jesús, gritando a gran voz, dijo: “Padre, en tus manos encomiendo mi espíritu”. Dicho esto, expiró.
47 Now when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, Certainly this was a righteous man.
Cuando el centurión vio lo que se había hecho, glorificó a Dios, diciendo: “Ciertamente éste era un hombre justo.”
48 And all the people that came together to that sight, beholding the things which were done, smote their breasts, and returned.
Toda la multitud que se había reunido para ver esto, al ver lo que se había hecho, volvió a su casa golpeándose el pecho.
49 And all his acquaintance, and the women that followed him from Galilee, stood afar off beholding these things.
Todos sus conocidos y las mujeres que le seguían desde Galilea se quedaron a distancia, viendo estas cosas.
50 And behold, [there was] a man named Joseph, a counselor: [and he was] a good man, and a just:
He aquí que había un hombre llamado José, que era miembro del consejo, hombre bueno y justo
51 (The same had not consented to the counsel and deed of them) [he was] of Arimathea, a city of the Jews; who also himself waited for the kingdom of God.
(no había consentido su consejo y su obra), de Arimatea, ciudad de los judíos, que también esperaba el Reino de Dios.
52 This [man] went to Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus.
Este hombre fue a Pilato y pidió el cuerpo de Jesús.
53 And he took it down, and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a sepulcher that was hewn in stone, in which man was never before laid.
Lo bajó, lo envolvió en una tela de lino y lo puso en un sepulcro tallado en piedra, donde nunca se había puesto a nadie.
54 And that day was the preparation, and the sabbath drew on.
Era el día de la Preparación, y se acercaba el sábado.
55 And the women also, who came with him from Galilee, followed after, and beheld the sepulcher, and how his body was laid.
Las mujeres que habían venido con él desde Galilea le siguieron, y vieron el sepulcro y cómo estaba colocado su cuerpo.
56 And they returned, and prepared spices and ointments; and rested on the sabbath, according to the commandment.
Volvieron y prepararon especias y ungüentos. El sábado descansaron según el mandamiento.
