Luke 22
1 Now the feast of unleavened bread drew nigh, which is called the Passover.

2 And the chief priests and scribes sought how they might kill him: for they feared the people.

3 Then Satan entered into Judas surnamed Iscariot, being of the number of the twelve.

4 And he went, and communed with the chief priests and captains, how he might betray him to them.

5 And they were glad, and covenanted to give him money.

6 And he promised, and sought opportunity to betray him to them in the absence of the multitude.

7 Then came the day of unleavened bread, when the passover must be killed.

8 And he sent Peter and John, saying, Go and prepare for us the passover, that we may eat.
Wasethuma uPetro loJohane, esithi: Hambani liyesilungisela iphasika, ukuze sidle.
9 And they said to him, Where wilt thou that we prepare?
Basebesithi kuye: Uthanda ukuthi silungise ngaphi?
10 And he said to them, Behold, when ye have entered into the city, there shall a man meet you, bearing a pitcher of water; follow him into the house where he entereth.
Wasesithi kubo: Khangelani, kuzakuthi selingenile emzini, umuntu uzahlangana lani ethwele imbiza yamanzi; limlandele endlini azangena kuyo.
11 And ye shall say to the master of the house, The Master saith to thee, Where is the guest-chamber, where I may eat the passover with my disciples?
Beselisithi kumninindlu: Uthi uMfundisi kuwe: Ingaphi indlu yezihambi, lapho engingadlela khona iphasika labafundi bami?
12 And he will show you a large upper room furnished: there make ready.
Yena-ke uzalitshengisa indlu enkulu ephezulu eyendlelweyo; lilungise khona.
13 And they went and found as he had said to them: and they made ready the passover.
Bahamba-ke bafica njengokutsho kwakhe kubo; basebelungisa iphasika.
14 And when the hour was come, he sat down, and the twelve apostles with him.
Kwathi selifikile ihola, wahlala phansi, labaphostoli abalitshumi lambili belaye.
15 And he said to them, I have earnestly desired to eat this passover with you before I suffer.
Wasesithi kubo: Ngokunxwanela nginxwanele ukudla lani leliphasika ngingakahlupheki;
16 For I say to you, I will not any more eat of it until it shall be fulfilled in the kingdom of God.

17 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide [it] among yourselves.
Wasethatha inkezo, esebongile wathi: Thathani lokhu, beselisabelana;
18 For I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come.
ngoba ngithi kini: Kangisoze nginathe okwesithelo sevini, kuze kufike umbuso kaNkulunkulu.
19 And he took bread, and gave thanks, and broke [it], and gave to them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me.
Wasethatha isinkwa, esebongile wasihlephuna, wabanika, esithi: Lokhu kungumzimba wami, owanikelelwa lina; lokhu kwenzeni ukungikhumbula.
20 Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup [is] the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.
Ngokunjalo lenkezo emva kokudla, esithi: Inkezo le iyisivumelwano esitsha egazini lami, elichithelwa lina.
21 But behold, the hand of him that betrayeth me [is] with me on the table.
Kodwa khangelani, isandla songinikelayo silami etafuleni.
22 And truly the Son of man goeth as it was determined: but woe to that man by whom he is betrayed!
Ngoba isibili iNdodana yomuntu ihamba njengokumisiweyo; kodwa maye kulowomuntu enikelwa nguye!
23 And they began to inquire among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing.
Bona basebeqala ukubuzana ukuthi kambe ngubani kubo ozakwenza lokho.
24 And there was also a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest.
Kwavela lokuphikisana phakathi kwabo okokuthi nguwuphi kubo ongathiwa ngomkhulu.
25 And he said to them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them, are called benefactors.
Wasesithi kubo: Amakhosi abezizwe azibusa ngobulukhuni, leziphathamandla zazo zithiwa ngabasizi.
26 But ye [shall] not [be] so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.
Kodwa lina kakungabi njalo; kodwa omkhulu phakathi kwenu kabe njengomncinyane, longumkhokheli njengosebenzayo.
27 For which [is] greater, he that sitteth at table, or he that serveth? [is] not he that sitteth at table? but I am among you as he that serveth.
Ngoba nguwuphi omkhulu, lowo ohleziyo ekudleni kumbe lowo osebenzayo? Kayisilowo yini ohlezi ekudleni? Kodwa mina ngiphakathi kwenu njengaye osebenzayo.
28 Ye are they who have continued with me in my temptations.
Lina-ke liyibo ababehlezi lami ezilingweni zami;
29 And I appoint to you a kingdom, as my Father hath appointed to me;
njalo mina ngilimisele umbuso, njengoba uBaba engimisele,
30 That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
ukuthi lidle linathe etafuleni lami embusweni wami, lihlale ezihlalweni zobukhosi, lisehlulela izizwe ezilitshumi lambili zakoIsrayeli.
31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired [to have] you, that he may sift [you] as wheat:
INkosi yasisithi: Simoni, Simoni, khangela, uSathane ulifunisisile, ukuze alihlungule njengamabele;
32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not; and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.
kodwa mina ngikukhulekele, ukuze ukholo lwakho lungapheli; wena-ke nxa usuphendukile uqinise abazalwane bakho.
33 And he said to him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee both into prison, and to death.
Kodwa wathi kuye: Nkosi, lentolongweni lekufeni ngilungele ukuya khona lawe.
34 And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock will not crow this day, before thou wilt thrice deny that thou knowest me.
Kodwa yena wathi: Ngiyakutshela, Petro, iqhude kaliyikukhala lamuhla, ungakaphiki kathathu ukuthi uyangazi.
35 And he said to them, When I sent you without purse, and sack, and shoes, lacked ye any thing? And they said, Nothing.
Wasesithi kubo: Mhla ngilithuma lingelamxhaka lesikhwama lamanyathela, laswela yini ulutho? Basebesithi: Kasiswelanga lutho.
36 Then said he to them, But now he that hath a purse, let him take [it], and likewise [his] sack: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.
Wasesithi kubo: Kodwa khathesi lowo olomxhaka kawuthathe, ngokunjalo lesikhwama; lalowo ongelakho, athengise isembatho sakhe, athenge inkemba.
37 For I say to you, that this which is written must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned among the transgressors: for the things concerning me have an end.
Ngoba ngithi kini, kusamele kugcwaliseke kimi lokhu okulotshiweyo, ukuthi: Wabalwa kanye lezoni; ngoba lalezizinto eziqondane lami zilesiphetho.
38 And they said, Lord, behold, here [are] two swords. And he said to them, It is enough.
Basebesithi: Nkosi, khangela, nanzi inkemba ezimbili. Wasesithi kubo: Kwanele.
39 And he came out, and went, as he was wont, to the mount of Olives; and his disciples also followed him.
Wasephuma waya entabeni yeMihlwathi njengokwejwayela; labafundi bakhe bamlandela.
40 And when he was at the place, he said to them, Pray, that ye enter not into temptation.
Esefikile kuleyondawo, wathi kubo: Khulekani ukuthi lingangeni ekulingweni.
41 And he was withdrawn from them about a stone's cast, and kneeled down, and prayed.
Yena wasemonyuka kubo okungaba libanga lokuphosa ilitshe, waguqa phansi ngamadolo wakhuleka,
42 Saying, Father, if thou art willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine be done.
esithi: Baba, uba uthanda, susa linkezo kimi; kodwa-ke kungenziwa intando yami, kodwa eyakho.
43 And there appeared to him an angel from heaven, strengthening him.
Kwabonakala kuye ingilosi evela ezulwini imqinisa.
44 And being in an agony, he prayed more earnestly: and his sweat was as it were great drops of blood falling to the ground.
Esesesizini olunzima, wakhuleka kakhulu. Njalo izithukuthuku zakhe zaba njengamathonsi egazi zawela emhlabathini.
45 And when he arose from prayer, and had come to his disciples, he found them sleeping for sorrow:
Esesukumile emkhulekweni, weza kubafundi bakhe, wabafica belele ngenxa yokudabuka,
46 And said to them, Why sleep ye? rise and pray, lest ye enter into temptation.
wasesithi kubo: Lilaleleni? Vukani likhuleke, ukuze lingangeni ekulingweni.
47 And while he was yet speaking, behold a multitude, and he that was called Judas, one of the twelve, went before them, and drew near to Jesus to kiss him.
Kwathi esakhuluma, khangela, ixuku, lalowo okuthiwa nguJudasi, omunye wabalitshumi lambili, ehamba phambi kwabo, wasesondela kuJesu ukumanga.
48 But Jesus said to him, Judas, betrayest thou the Son of man with a kiss?
Kodwa uJesu wathi kuye: Judasi, uyayinikela yini iNdodana yomuntu ngokuyanga?
49 When they who were about him, saw what would follow, they said to him, Lord, shall we smite with the sword?
Kwathi labo ababengakuye sebebona okuzakwenzeka bathi kuye: Nkosi, sigadle yini ngenkemba?
50 And one of them smote the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear.
Omunye wabo wasegadla inceku yompristi omkhulu, waquma indlebe yayo yokunene.
51 And Jesus answered and said, Suffer ye thus far. And he touched his ear, and healed him.
Kodwa uJesu waphendula wathi: Yekelani kuze kube yilokhu. Wasethinta indlebe yayo, wayisilisa.
52 Then Jesus said to the chief priests, and captains of the temple, and the elders who had come to him, Are ye come out as against a thief, with swords and staffs?
UJesu wasesithi kubapristi abakhulu lezinduna zethempeli labadala ababeze kuye: Liphume njengokuyamelana lomphangi yini lilezinkemba lezinduku?
53 When I was daily with you in the temple, ye stretched forth no hands against me: but this is your hour, and the power of darkness.

54 Then they took him, and led [him], and brought him into the high priest's house. And Peter followed at a distance.

55 And when they had kindled a fire in the midst of the hall, and were set down together, Peter sat down among them.

56 But a certain maid beheld him as he sat by the fire, and earnestly looked upon him, and said, This man was also with him.

57 And he denied him, saying, Woman, I know him not.

58 And after a little while another saw him, and said, Thou art also of them. And Peter said, Man, I am not.

59 And about the space of one hour after, another confidently affirmed, saying, In truth this [man] also was with him; for he is a Galilean.

60 And Peter said, Man, I know not what thou sayest. And immediately, while he was yet speaking, the cock crowed.

61 And the Lord turned, and looked upon Peter. And Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said to him, Before the cock shall crow, thou wilt deny me thrice.
INkosi yasiphenduka yamkhangela uPetro. UPetro waselikhumbula ilizwi leNkosi, ukuthi yakhuluma njani kuye isithi: Iqhude lingakakhali, uzangiphika kathathu.
62 And Peter went out, and wept bitterly.
UPetro wasephuma phandle wakhala kabuhlungu.
63 And the men that held Jesus, mocked him, and smote [him].
Lamadoda ayembambile uJesu amklolodela, amtshaya.
64 And when they had blindfolded him, they struck him on the face, and asked him, saying, Prophesy, who is it that smote thee?
Amembesa, amtshaya ubuso, asembuza, esithi: Profetha! Ngubani okutshayileyo?
65 And many other things blasphemously they spoke against him.
Akhuluma lezinye izinto ezinengi kuye ehlambaza.
66 And as soon as it was day, the elders of the people, and the chief priests, and the scribes came together, and led him into their council,
Kwathi sekusile, abadala babantu babuthana, labapristi abakhulu lababhali, basebemusa emphakathini wabo, bathi:
67 Saying, Art thou the Christ? tell us. And he said to them, If I tell you, ye will not believe.
Uba unguKristu, sitshele. Wasesithi kubo: Uba ngilitshela, kalisoze likholwe;
68 And if I also ask [you], ye will not answer me, nor let [me] go.
njalo uba lami ngilibuza, kalisoze lingiphendule, loba lingikhulule.
69 Hereafter will the Son of man sit on the right hand of the power of God.
Kusukela khathesi iNdodana yomuntu izahlala ngakwesokunene samandla kaNkulunkulu.
70 Then said they all, Art thou then the Son of God? And he said to them, Ye say that I am.
Basebesithi bonke: Kanti uyiNdodana kaNkulunkulu? Wasesithi kubo: Kutsho lina ukuthi ngiyiyo.
71 And they said, What need have we of any further testimony? for we ourselves have heard from his own mouth.
Basebesithi: Pho sisafunelani ubufakazi? Ngoba sesizizwele uqobo lwethu emlonyeni wakhe.
