Luke 18
1 And he spoke a parable to them [to this end], that men ought always [to] pray, and not to faint;
তারপর যীশু এক রূপক কাহিনির মাধ্যমে তাঁর শিষ্যদের বোঝাতে চাইলেন, তাঁরা যেন সব সবময়ই প্রার্থনা করে, নিরাশ না হয়।
2 Saying, There was in a city a judge, who feared not God, neither regarded man.
তিনি বললেন, “কোনো এক নগরে একজন বিচারক ছিলেন। তিনি ঈশ্বরকে ভয় করতেন না, কোনো মানুষকেও গ্রাহ্য করতেন না।
3 And there was a widow in that city; and she came to him, saying, Avenge me of my adversary.
সেই নগরে একজন বিধবা ছিল। সে বারবার এসে তাঁর কাছে মিনতি করত, ‘আমার প্রতিপক্ষের বিরুদ্ধে আমার প্রতি ন্যায়বিচার করুন।’
4 And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man;
“কিছুদিন তিনি সম্মত হলেন না। কিন্তু শেষে চিন্তা করলেন, ‘যদিও আমি ঈশ্বরকে ভয় করি না,
5 Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me.
তবুও, এই বিধবা যেহেতু আমাকে বারবার জ্বালাতন করে চলেছে, তাই সে যেন ন্যায়বিচার পায়, তা আমি দেখব যেন সে বারবার এসে আমাকে আর বিরক্ত না করে।’”
6 And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith.
প্রভু বললেন, “শোনো তোমরা, ওই ন্যায়হীন বিচারক কী বলে।
7 And will not God avenge his own elect, who cry day and night to him, though he beareth long with them?
তাহলে ঈশ্বরের যে মনোনীত জনেরা তাঁর কাছে দিবারাত্রি কান্নাকাটি করে, তাদের বিষয়ে তিনি কি ন্যায়বিচার করবেন না? তিনি কি তাদের দূরে সরিয়ে রাখবেন?
8 I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless, when the Son of man cometh, will he find faith on the earth?
আমি তোমাদের বলছি, তিনি দ্রুত তাদের ন্যায়বিচারের ব্যবস্থা করবেন। কিন্তু মনুষ্যপুত্র যখন আসবেন, তিনি কি পৃথিবীতে বিশ্বাস খুঁজে পাবেন?”
9 And he spoke this parable to certain who trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:
নিজেদের ধার্মিকতার প্রতি যাদের আস্থা ছিল ও অন্যদের যারা হীনদৃষ্টিতে দেখত, যীশু এই রূপক কাহিনিটি তাদের বললেন:
10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.
“দুই ব্যক্তি প্রার্থনার জন্য মন্দিরে গেল; একজন ফরিশী ও অন্যজন কর আদায়কারী।
11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men [are], extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.
ফরিশী দাঁড়িয়ে নিজের বিষয়ে প্রার্থনা করল, ‘হে ঈশ্বর, আমি তোমাকে ধন্যবাদ জানাই, কারণ আমি কোনো দস্যু, দুর্বৃত্ত, ব্যভিচারী, এমনকি, ওই কর আদায়কারী, বা অন্য লোকের মতো নই।
12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.
আমি সপ্তাহে দু-দিন উপোস করি এবং যা আয় করি, তার এক-দশমাংশ দান করি।’
13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as [his] eyes to heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.
“কিন্তু কর আদায়কারী দূরে দাঁড়িয়ে রইল। এমনকি, সে স্বর্গের দিকে তাকাতে পর্যন্ত পারল না। সে তার বুক চাপড়ে বলতে লাগল, ‘হে ঈশ্বর, আমার প্রতি, এই পাপীর প্রতি কৃপা করো।’
14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified [rather] than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.
“আমি তোমাদের বলছি, এই ব্যক্তি ঈশ্বরের কাছে ধার্মিক গণ্য হয়ে ঘরে ফিরে গেল, কিন্তু অন্যজন নয়। কারণ যে কেউ নিজেকে উন্নত করে, তাকে নত করা হবে, আর যে কেউ নিজেকে নত করে তাকে উন্নত করা হবে।”
15 And they brought to him also infants, that he would touch them: but when [his] disciples saw [it], they rebuked them.
যীশুকে স্পর্শ করার জন্য লোকেরা শিশু সন্তানদের তাঁর কাছে নিয়ে আসছিল। এই দেখে শিষ্যেরা তাদের তিরস্কার করলেন।
16 But Jesus called them [to him], and said, Suffer little children to come to me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God.
কিন্তু যীশু শিষ্যদের তাঁর কাছে ডাকলেন ও বললেন, “ছোটো শিশুদের আমার কাছে আসতে দাও, ওদের বাধা দিয়ো না। কারণ ঈশ্বরের রাজ্য এদের মতো মানুষদেরই।
17 Verily I say to you, Whoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, shall in no wise enter into it.
আমি তোমাদের সত্যিই বলছি, ছোটো শিশুর মতো যে ঈশ্বরের রাজ্যকে গ্রহণ করতে পারে না, সে কখনও তাতে প্রবেশ করতে পারবে না।”
18 And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? (aiōnios g166)
একজন সমাজভবনের অধ্যক্ষ তাঁকে প্রশ্ন করল, “সৎ গুরু, অনন্ত জীবনের অধিকারী হওয়ার জন্য আমাকে কী করতে হবে?” (aiōnios g166)
19 And Jesus said to him, Why callest thou me good? none [is] good, save one, [that is] God.
যীশু উত্তর দিলেন, “আমাকে সৎ বলছ কেন? ঈশ্বর ছাড়া তো আর কেউ সৎ নেই!
20 Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honor thy father and thy mother.
ঈশ্বরের আজ্ঞা তুমি নিশ্চয় জানো: ‘ব্যভিচার কোরো না, নরহত্যা কোরো না, চুরি কোরো না, মিথ্যা সাক্ষ্য দিয়ো না, তোমার বাবাকে ও তোমার মাকে সম্মান কোরো।’”
21 And he said, All these have I kept from my youth.
তিনি বললেন, “আমি ছোটোবেলা থেকে এসব পালন করে আসছি।”
22 Now when Jesus heard these things, he said to him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.
একথা শুনে যীশু তাকে বললেন, “এখনও একটি বিষয়ে তোমার ঘাটতি আছে। তুমি তোমার সর্বস্ব বিক্রি করে দরিদ্রদের মধ্যে বিলিয়ে দাও, তাহলে স্বর্গে ঐশ্বর্য লাভ করবে। তারপর এসো, আমাকে অনুসরণ করো।”
23 And when he heard this, he was very sorrowful: for he was very rich.
একথা শুনে সে অত্যন্ত বিষণ্ণ হয়ে উঠল, কারণ সে প্রচুর সম্পত্তির অধিকারী ছিল।
24 And when Jesus saw that he was very sorrowful, he said, How hardly will they that have riches enter into the kingdom of God!
যীশু তার দিকে দৃষ্টিপাত করে বললেন, “ধনীর পক্ষে ঈশ্বরের রাজ্যে প্রবেশ করা কেমন কষ্টসাধ্য!
25 For it is easier for a camel to go through a needle's eye, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
প্রকৃতপক্ষে, ধনী মানুষের পক্ষে ঈশ্বরের রাজ্যে প্রবেশ করার চেয়ে বরং সুচের ছিদ্রপথ দিয়ে উটের পার হওয়া সহজ।”
26 And they that heard [it], said, Who then can be saved?
একথা শুনে শ্রোতারা জিজ্ঞাসা করল, “তাহলে কে পরিত্রাণ পেতে পারে?”
27 Then he said, The things which are impossible with men, are possible with God.
যীশু উত্তর দিলেন, “মানুষের পক্ষে যা অসম্ভব, ঈশ্বরের কাছে তা সম্ভবপর।”
28 Then Peter said, Lo, we have left all, and followed thee.
পিতর তাঁকে বললেন, “আপনাকে অনুসরণ করার জন্য আমরা আমাদের সর্বস্ব ত্যাগ করেছি।”
29 And he said to them, Verily I say to you, there is no man that hath left house, or parents, or brethren, or wife, or children for the sake of the kingdom of God,
যীশু তাদের বললেন, “আমি তোমাদের সত্যিই বলছি, এমন কেউ নেই, যে ঈশ্বরের রাজ্যের জন্য নিজের ঘরবাড়ি, অথবা স্ত্রী, ভাই, বাবা-মা, বা সন্তানসন্ততি ত্যাগ করেছে,
31 Then he took the twelve, and said to them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished.
যীশু সেই বারোজনকে একান্তে ডেকে বললেন, “আমরা জেরুশালেম পর্যন্ত যাচ্ছি; আর মনুষ্যপুত্র সম্পর্কে ভাববাদীদের সমস্ত ভবিষ্যদ্বাণী বাস্তবায়িত হবে।
32 For he will be delivered to the Gentiles, and will be mocked, and spitefully treated, and spitted on;
তাঁকে অইহুদিদের হাতে সমর্পণ করা হবে। তারা তাঁকে বিদ্রুপ করবে, অপমান করবে, তাঁর গায়ে থুতু দেবে, তাঁকে চাবুক দিয়ে মারবে ও হত্যা করবে।
33 And they will scourge [him], and put him to death: and the third day he will rise again.
কিন্তু তৃতীয় দিনে তিনি মৃত্যু থেকে পুনরুত্থিত হবেন।”
34 And they understood none of these things: and this saying was hid from them, neither knew they the things which were spoken.
শিষ্যেরা এসব কথার কিছুই উপলব্ধি করতে পারলেন না। তাদের কাছে এর অর্থ গুপ্ত ছিল এবং তিনি কোন বিষয়ে আলোচনা করছেন, তা তারা বুঝতে পারলেন না।
35 And it came to pass, that as he had come nigh to Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging;
যীশু যখন যিরীহোর নিকটবর্তী হলেন, একজন দৃষ্টিহীন ব্যক্তি পথের পাশে বসে ভিক্ষা করছিল।
36 And hearing the multitude passing by, he asked what it meant.
পথে চলা লোকদের কলরোল শুনে সে তার কারণ জানতে চাইল।
37 And they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth was passing by.
তারা তাকে বলল, “নাসরতের যীশু সেখান দিয়ে যাচ্ছেন।”
38 And he cried, saying, Jesus, [thou] son of David, have mercy on me.
সে চিৎকার করে উঠল, “যীশু, দাউদ-সন্তান, আমার প্রতি দয়া করুন।”
39 And they who went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, [Thou] son of David, have mercy on me.
সামনের লোকেরা তাকে ধমক দিল ও চুপ করতে বলল, কিন্তু সে আরও বেশি চিৎকার করে বলতে লাগল, “হে দাউদের সন্তান, আমার প্রতি কৃপা করুন।”
40 And Jesus stood and commanded him to be brought to him: and when he had come near, he asked him,
যীশু থেমে সেই মানুষটিকে তাঁর কাছে নিয়ে আসার জন্য আদেশ দিলেন। সে কাছে এলে যীশু তাকে জিজ্ঞাসা করলেন,
41 Saying, What wilt thou that I shall do to thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight.
“আমার কাছে তুমি কী চাও? তোমার জন্য আমি কী করব?” সে উত্তর দিল, “প্রভু, আমি যেন দেখতে পাই।”
42 And Jesus said to him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee.
যীশু তাকে বললেন, “তুমি দৃষ্টি লাভ করো; তোমার বিশ্বাসই তোমাকে সুস্থ করেছে।”
43 And immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God: and all the people, when they saw [it], gave praise to God.
তখনই সে তার দৃষ্টিশক্তি লাভ করল ও ঈশ্বরের প্রশংসা করতে করতে যীশুকে অনুসরণ করল। এই দেখে সমস্ত লোকও ঈশ্বরের বন্দনা করতে লাগল।
