Leviticus 26

1 Ye shall make you no idols nor graven image, neither rear you up a standing image, neither shall ye set up [any] image of stone in your land, to bow down to it: for I [am] the LORD your God.

Je suis le Seigneur votre Dieu: Vous ne vous ferez point d’idole ni d’image taillée au ciseau; vous n’érigerez point de monuments et vous ne poserez point de pierre remarquable dans votre terre, pour que vous l’adoriez. Car je suis le Seigneur votre Dieu.

2 Ye shall keep my sabbaths, and reverence my sanctuary: I [am] the LORD.

Gardez mes sabbats et tremblez auprès de mon sanctuaire. Je suis le Seigneur.

3 If ye walk in my statutes, and keep my commandments, and do them;

Si vous marchez dans mes préceptes, et si vous gardez mes commandements et que vous les exécutiez, je vous donnerai les pluies en leurs temps,

4 Then I will give you rain in due season, and the land shall yield her increase, and the trees of the field shall yield their fruit:

Et la terre produira sa végétation, et les arbres seront remplis de fruits.

5 And your threshing shall reach to the vintage, and the vintage shall reach to the sowing time; and ye shall eat your bread to the full, and dwell in your land safely.

Le battage des moissons atteindra la vendange, et la vendange s’unira à l’ensemencement; et vous mangerez votre pain à satiété, et vous habiterez sans crainte votre terre.

6 And I will give peace in the land, and ye shall lie down, and none shall make [you] afraid: and I will rid the land of evil beasts, neither shall the sword go through your land.

Je donnerai la paix dans vos confins, vous dormirez, et point ne sera qui vous épouvante. Je détruirai les méchantes bêtes, et le glaive ne passera pas vos frontières.

7 And ye shall chase your enemies, and they shall fall before you by the sword.

Vous poursuivrez vos ennemis, et ils tomberont devant vous,

8 And five of you shall chase a hundred, and a hundred of you shall put ten thousand to flight: and your enemies shall fall before you by the sword.

Cinq des vôtres poursuivront cent étrangers, et cent d’entre vous, dix mille: vos ennemis tomberont par le glaive en votre présence.

9 For I will have respect to you, and make you fruitful, and multiply you, and establish my covenant with you.

Je vous regarderai et vous ferai croître: vous vous multiplierez, et j’affermirai mon alliance avec vous.

10 And ye shall eat old store, and bring forth the old because of the new.

Vous mangerez les plus anciens des anciens fruits, et, les nouveaux survenant, vous rejetterez les anciens.

11 And I will set my tabernacle among you: and my soul shall not abhor you.

Je poserai mon tabernacle au milieu de vous, et mon âme ne vous rejettera point.

12 And I will walk among you, and will be your God, and ye shall be my people.

Je marcherai parmi vous, et je serai votre Dieu, et vous, vous serez mon peuple.

13 I [am] the LORD your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that ye should not be their bond-men, and I have broken the bands of your yoke, and made you go upright.

Je suis le Seigneur votre Dieu, qui vous ai retirés de la terre des Egyptiens, afin que vous ne fussiez pas leurs esclaves, et qui ai brisé les chaînes de vos cous, afin que vous marchiez la tête levée.

14 But if ye will not hearken to me, and will not do all these commandments;

Que si vous ne m’écoutez point, et si vous n’exécutez point tous mes commandements;

15 And if ye shall despise my statutes, or if your soul shall abhor my judgments, so that ye will not do all my commandments, [but] that ye break my covenant:

Si vous méprisez mes lois, et si vous ne tenez pas compte de mes ordonnances, en sorte que vous ne fassiez point ce qui a été établi par moi, et que vous rendiez vaine mon alliance,

16 I also will do this to you, I will even appoint over you terror, consumption, and the burning ague, that shall consume the eyes, and cause sorrow of heart: and ye shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it.

Moi aussi, je ferai ceci contre vous: Je vous visiterai soudain par l’indigence, et par une ardeur qui desséchera vos yeux et consumera vos âmes. En vain vous sèmerez vos semences, qui seront dévorées par vos ennemis.

17 And I will set my face against you, and ye shall be slain before your enemies: they that hate you shall reign over you, and ye shall flee when none pursueth you.

Je fixerai ma face contre vous, et vous tomberez devant vos ennemis, et vous serez assujettis à ceux qui vous haïssent: vous fuirez, personne ne vous poursuivant.

18 And if ye will not yet for all this hearken to me, then I will punish you seven times more for your sins.

Mais si après cela même vous ne m’obéissez point, j’augmenterai vos châtiments d’un septuple à cause de vos péchés,

19 And I will break the pride of your power; and I will make your heaven as iron, and your earth as brass:

Et je briserai l’orgueil de votre dureté. De plus, je rendrai pour vous le ciel au-dessus comme le fer, et la terre d’airain.

20 And your strength shall be spent in vain: for your land shall not yield her increase, neither shall the trees of the land yield their fruits.

Votre travail sera employé en vain, la terre ne produira point de végétation, et les arbres ne donneront point de fruits,

21 And if ye shall walk contrary to me, and will not hearken to me, I will bring seven times more plagues upon you according to your sins.

Si vous marchez en opposition avec moi, et que vous ne vouliez pas m’écouter, j’augmenterai vos plaies d’un septuple à cause de vos péchés;

22 I will also send wild beasts among you, which shall rob you of your children, and destroy your cattle, and make you few in number, and your [high] -ways shall be desolate.

Et j’enverrai contre vous les bêtes de la campagne, qui vous consumeront, vous et vos troupeaux, et qui les réduiront tous à un petit nombre, et vos chemins deviendront déserts.

23 And if ye will not be reformed by me by these things, but will walk contrary to me;

Que si après cela même vous ne voulez point recevoir ma correction, mais que vous marchiez en opposition avec moi,

24 Then will I also walk contrary to you, and I will punish you yet seven times for your sins.

Moi aussi, je marcherai contre vous et je vous frapperai sept fois à cause de vos péchés;

25 And I will bring a sword upon you, that shall avenge the quarrel of [my] covenant: and when ye are gathered within your cities, I will send the pestilence among you: and ye shall be delivered into the hand of the enemy.

Et je conduirai sur vous le glaive vengeur de mon alliance; et, lorsque vous aurez fui dans les villes, j’enverrai la peste au milieu de vous, et vous serez livrés aux mains des ennemis,

26 [And] when I have broke the staff of your bread, ten women shall bake your bread in one oven, and they shall deliver [you] your bread again by weight: and ye shall eat, and not be satisfied.

Après que j’aurai brisé le bâton de votre pain; en sorte que dix femmes cuiront les pains dans un seul four, et les rendront au poids: or, vous mangerez, et ne serez pas rassasiés.

27 And if ye will not for all this hearken to me, but walk contrary to me;

Mais si avec cela même vous ne m’écoutez point, et que vous marchiez contre moi,

28 Then I will walk contrary to you also in fury; and I, even I, will chastise you seven times for your sins.

Moi aussi, je marcherai contre vous avec une fureur contraire, et je vous châtierai de sept plaies à cause de vos péchés;

29 And ye shall eat the flesh of your sons, and the flesh of your daughters shall ye eat.

En sorte que vous mangerez la chair de vos fils et de vos filles.

30 And I will destroy your high places, and cut down your images, and cast your carcasses upon the carcasses of your idols, and my soul shall abhor you.

Je détruirai vos hauts lieux, je briserai vos simulacres. Vous tomberez parmi les ruines de vos idoles, et mon âme vous aura en abomination,

31 And I will make your cities waste, and bring your sanctuaries to desolation, and I will not smell the savor of your sweet odors.

Tellement que je réduirai vos villes en solitude, que je rendrai déserts vos sanctuaires, et que je ne recevrai plus votre odeur très suave.

32 And I will bring the land into desolation: and your enemies who dwell in it shall be astonished at it.

Je détruirai votre terre, et vos ennemis seront dans l’étonnement à son sujet, lorsqu’ils en seront les habitants;

33 And I will scatter you among the heathen, and will draw out a sword after you: and your land shall be desolate, and your cities waste.

Mais vous, je vous disperserai parmi les nations, et je tirerai après vous le glaive, et votre terre sera déserte et vos villes ruinées.

34 Then shall the land enjoy its sabbaths, as long as it lieth desolate, and ye [are] in your enemies' land; [even] then shall the land rest, and enjoy its sabbaths.

Alors la terre se plaira dans ses sabbats pendant tous les jours de sa solitude: quand vous serez

35 As long as it lieth desolate, it shall rest; because it did not rest in your sabbaths, when ye dwelt upon it.

Dans la terre ennemie, elle sabbatisera et se reposera dans les sabbats de sa solitude, parce qu’elle ne s’est pas reposée dans vos sabbats, quand vous habitiez en elle.

36 And upon them that are left [alive] of you, I will send a faintness into their hearts in the lands of their enemies; and the sound of a shaken leaf shall chase them; and they shall flee, as fleeing from a sword; and they shall fall, when none pursueth.

Quant à ceux d’entre vous qui resteront, je donnerai de l’épouvante à leurs cœurs dans les contrées de leurs ennemis, le bruit d’une feuille qui vole les effrayera, et ils fuiront comme si c’était un glaive: ils tomberont, personne ne les poursuivant;

37 And they shall fall one upon another, as it were before a sword, when none pursueth: and ye shall have no power to stand before your enemies.

Et ils se précipiteront, chacun sur leurs frères, comme s’ils fuyaient les combats: personne de vous n’osera résister à vos ennemis.

38 And ye shall perish among the heathen, and the land of your enemies shall eat you up.

Vous périrez parmi les nations, et la terre ennemie vous consumera.

39 And they that are left of you shall pine away in their iniquity in your enemies' lands; and also in the iniquities of their fathers shall they pine away with them.

Que s’il en demeure encore quelques-uns d’entre ceux-là, ils sécheront dans leurs iniquités, dans la terre de leurs ennemis, et à cause des péchés de leurs pères et des leurs propres ils seront affligés;

40 If they shall confess their iniquity, and the iniquity of their fathers, with their trespass which they trespassed against me, and that also they have walked contrary to me;

Jusqu’à ce qu’ils confessent leurs iniquités et celles de leurs aïeux par lesquelles ils ont prévariqué contre moi, et ils ont marché en opposition avec moi.

41 And [that] I also have walked contrary to them, and have brought them into the land of their enemies; if then their uncircumcised hearts shall be humbled, and they then accept of the punishment of their iniquity:

Je marcherai donc moi aussi contre eux, et je les conduirai dans la terre ennemie, jusqu’à ce que rougisse leur esprit incirconcis; alors ils prieront pour leurs iniquités.

42 Then will I remember my covenant with Jacob, and also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham will I remember; and I will remember the land.

Et je me souviendrai de mon alliance que j’ai faite avec Jacob, Isaac et Abraham. Je me souviendrai aussi de la terre,

43 The land also shall be left by them, and shall enjoy her sabbaths, while she lieth desolate without them: and they shall accept of the punishment of their iniquity; because, even because they despised my judgments, and because their soul abhorred my statutes.

Qui, lorsqu’elle aura été abandonnée par eux, se complaira dans ses sabbats, souffrant la solitude à cause d’eux. Mais ils prieront eux-mêmes pour leurs péchés, parce qu’ils ont rejeté mes ordonnances et qu’ils ont méprisé mes lois.

44 And yet for all that, when they shall be in the land of their enemies, I will not cast them away, neither will I abhor them, to destroy them utterly, and to break my covenant with them; for I [am] the LORD their God.

Et cependant, lors même qu’ils étaient dans la terre ennemie, je ne les ai pas entièrement rejetés, et je ne les ai pas dédaignés de manière à ce qu’ils fussent consumés, et à ce que je rendisse vaine mon alliance avec eux. Car c’est moi qui suis le Seigneur leur Dieu.

45 But I will for their sakes remember the covenant of their ancestors, whom I brought out of the land of Egypt in the sight of the heathen, that I might be their God: I [am] the LORD.

Et je me souviendrai de mon ancienne alliance, quand je les ai retirés de la terre d’Egypte en la présence des nations, pour que je fusse leur Dieu. Je suis le Seigneur. Ce sont là les ordonnances, les préceptes et les lois qu’a donnés le Seigneur entre lui et les enfants d’Israël, sur la montagne de Sinaï par l’entremise de Moïse.

46 These [are] the statutes, and judgments, and laws, which the LORD made between him and the children of Israel in mount Sinai by the hand of Moses.
