Judges 8
1 And the men of Ephraim said to him, Why hast thou treated us thus, that thou calledst us not when thou wentest to fight with the Midianites? and they chid with him sharply.
E os de Efraim lhe disseram: Que é isto que fizeste conosco, não chamando-nos quando ias à guerra contra Midiã? E reclamaram dele fortemente.
2 And he said to them, What have I done now in comparison of you? [Is] not the gleaning of the grapes of Ephraim better than the vintage of Abiezer?
Aos quais ele respondeu: Que fiz eu agora como vós? Não são as sobras das uvas de Efraim melhor que a vindima de Abiezer?
3 God hath delivered into your hands the princes of Midian, Oreb and Zeeb: and what was I able to do in comparison of you? Then, when he had said that, their anger towards him abated.
Deus entregou em vossas mãos a Orebe e a Zeebe, príncipes de Midiã: e que pude eu fazer como vós? Então a ira deles contra ele se aplacou, logo que ele falou esta palavra.
4 And Gideon came to Jordan, [and] passed over, he, and the three hundred men that [were] with him, faint, yet pursuing [them].
E veio Gideão ao Jordão para passar, ele e os trezentos homens que trazia consigo, cansados, mas ainda perseguindo.
5 And he said to the men of Succoth, Give, I pray you, loaves of bread to the people that follow me: for they [are] faint, and I am pursuing Zebah and Zalmunna, kings of Midian.
E disse aos de Sucote: Eu vos rogo que deis à gente que me segue alguns bocados de pão; porque estão cansados, e eu persigo a Zeba e a Zalmuna, reis de Midiã.
6 And the princes of Succoth said, [Are] the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in thy hand, that we should give bread to thy army?
E os principais de Sucote responderam: Está já a mão de Zeba e Zalmuna em tua mão, para que havemos nós de dar pão a teu exército?
7 And Gideon said, Therefore when the LORD hath delivered Zebah and Zalmunna into my hand, then I will tear your flesh with the thorns of the wilderness and with briers.
E Gideão disse: Pois quando o SENHOR entregar em minha mão a Zeba e a Zalmuna, eu trilharei vossa carne com espinhos e cardos do deserto.
8 And he went up thence to Penuel, and spoke to them likewise: and the men of Penuel answered him as the men of Succoth had answered [him].
E dali subiu a Peniel, e falou-lhes as mesmas palavras. E os de Peniel lhe responderam como haviam respondido os de Sucote.
9 And he spoke also to the men of Penuel, saying, When I come again in peace, I will break down this tower.
E ele falou também aos de Peniel, dizendo: Quando eu voltar em paz, derrubarei esta torre.
10 Now Zebah and Zalmunna [were] in Karkor, and their hosts with them, about fifteen thousand [men], all that were left of all the hosts of the children of the east: for there fell a hundred and twenty thousand men that drew sword.
E Zeba e Zalmuna estavam em Carcor, e com eles seu exército de como quinze mil homens, todos os que haviam restado de todo aquele acampamento dos orientais: e os mortos haviam sido cento vinte mil homens que tiravam espada.
11 And Gideon went up by the way of them that dwelt in tents on the east of Nobah and Jogbehah, and smote the host: for the host was secure.
E subindo Gideão até os que habitavam em tendas, à parte oriental de Noba e de Jogbeá, feriu o acampamento, porque estava o exército desprevenido.
12 And when Zebah and Zalmunna fled, he pursued them, and took the two kings of Midian, Zebah and Zalmunna, and discomfited all the host.
E fugindo Zeba e Zalmuna, ele os seguiu; e tomados os dois reis de Midiã, Zeba e Zalmuna, espantou a todo aquele exército.
13 And Gideon the son of Joash returned from battle before the sun [had risen],
E Gideão filho de Joás voltou da batalha antes que o sol subisse;
14 And caught a young man of the men of Succoth, and inquired of him: and he described to him the princes of Succoth, and its elders, [even] seventy seven men.
E tomou um jovem dos de Sucote, e perguntando-lhe, ele lhe deu por escrito os principais de Sucote e seus anciãos, setenta e sete homens.
15 And he came to the men of Succoth, and said, Behold Zebah and Zalmunna, with whom ye upbraided me, saying, [Are] the hands of Zebah and Zalmunna now in thy hand, that we should give bread to thy men [that are] weary?
E entrando aos de Sucote, disse: Eis aqui a Zeba e a Zalmuna, sobre os quais me escarnecestes, dizendo: Está já a mão de Zeba e de Zalmuna em tua mão, para que demos nós pão a teus homens cansados?
16 And he took the elders of the city, and thorns of the wilderness, and briers, and with them he taught the men of Succoth.
E tomou aos anciãos da cidade, e espinhos e cardos do deserto, e castigou com eles aos de Sucote.
17 And he beat down the tower of Penuel, and slew the men of the city.
Também derrubou a torre de Peniel, e matou aos da cidade.
18 Then said he to Zebah and Zalmunna, What manner of men [were they] whom ye slew at Tabor? And they answered, As thou [art], so [were] they; each one resembled the children of a king.
Logo disse a Zeba e a Zalmuna: Que maneira de homens tinham aqueles que matastes em Tabor? E eles responderam: Como tu, tais eram aqueles nem mais nem menos, que apareciam filhos de rei.
19 And he said, They [were] my brethren, [even] the sons of my mother: [as] the LORD liveth, if ye had saved them alive, I would not slay you.
E ele disse: Meus irmãos eram, filhos de minha mãe: Vive o SENHOR, que se os tivésseis guardado em vida, eu não vos mataria!
20 And he said to Jether his first-born, Arise, [and] slay them. But the youth drew not his sword: for he feared, because he [was] yet a youth.
E disse a Jéter seu primogênito: Levanta-te, e mata-os. Mas o jovem não desembainhou sua espada, porque tinha medo; que ainda era jovem.
21 Then Zebah and Zalmunna said, Rise thou, and fall upon us: for as the man [is], [so is] his strength. And Gideon arose, and slew Zebah and Zalmunna, and took away the ornaments that [were] on their camels' necks.
Então disse Zeba e Zalmuna: Levanta-te tu, e mata-nos; porque como é o homem, tal é sua valentia. E Gideão se levantou, e matou a Zeba e a Zalmuna; e tomou os adornos de crescentes que seus camelos traziam ao pescoço.
22 Then the men of Israel said to Gideon, Rule thou over us, both thou, and thy son, and thy son's son also: for thou hast delivered us from the hand of Midian.
E os israelitas disseram a Gideão: Sê nosso senhor, tu, e teu filho, e teu neto; pois que nos livraste da mão de Midiã.
23 And Gideon said to them, I will not rule over you, neither shall my son rule over you: the LORD shall rule over you.
Mas Gideão respondeu: Não serei senhor sobre vós, nem meu filho vos dominará: o SENHOR será vosso Senhor.
24 And Gideon said to them, I would desire a request of you, that you would give me every man the ear-rings of his prey. (For they had golden ear-rings, because they [were] Ishmaelites.)
E disse-lhes Gideão: Desejo fazer-vos uma petição, que cada um me dê os pendentes de seu despojo. (Porque traziam pendentes de ouro, que eram ismaelitas.)
25 And they answered, We will willingly give [them]. And they spread a garment, and cast into it every man the ear-rings of his prey.
E eles responderam: De boa vontade os daremos. E segurando uma roupa de vestir, lançou ali cada um os pendentes de seu despojo.
26 And the weight of the golden ear-rings that he requested, was a thousand and seven hundred [shekels] of gold; besides ornaments, and collars, and purple raiment that [was] on the kings of Midian, and besides the chains that [were] about their camels' necks.
E foi o peso dos pendentes de ouro que ele pediu mil e setecentos siclos de ouro; sem contar os ornamentos, e as joias, e vestidos de púrpura, que traziam os reis de Midiã, e sem os colares que traziam seus camelos ao pescoço.
27 And Gideon made of it an ephod, and put it in his city, [even] in Ophrah: and all Israel went thither astray after it: which thing became a snare to Gideon, and to his house.
E Gideão fez deles um éfode, o qual fez guardar em sua cidade de Ofra: e todo Israel prostituiu-se atrás desse éfode naquele lugar; e foi por tropeço a Gideão e a sua casa.
28 Thus was Midian subdued before the children of Israel, so that they raised their heads no more. And the country was in quietness forty years in the days of Gideon.
Assim foi humilhado Midiã diante dos filhos de Israel, e nunca mais levantaram sua cabeça. E repousou a terra quarenta anos nos dias de Gideão.
29 And Jerubbaal the son of Joash went and dwelt in his own house.
E Jerubaal filho de Joás foi, e habitou em sua casa.
30 And Gideon had seventy sons of his body begotten: for he had many wives.
E teve Gideão setenta filhos que saíram de sua coxa, porque teve muitas mulheres.
31 And his concubine that [was] in Shechem, she also bore him a son, whose name he called Abimelech.
E sua concubina que estava em Siquém, também lhe deu um filho; e pôs-lhe por nome Abimeleque.
32 And Gideon the son of Joash died in a good old age, and was buried in the sepulcher of Joash his father, in Ophrah of the Abi-ezrites.
E morreu Gideão filho de Joás em boa velhice, e foi sepultado no sepulcro de seu pai Joás, em Ofra dos abiezritas.
33 And it came to pass as soon as Gideon was dead, that the children of Israel turned again, and went astray after Baalim, and made Baal-berith their god.
E aconteceu que quando morreu Gideão, os filhos de Israel voltaram, e se prostituíram atrás dos baalins, e se puseram por Deus a Baal-Berite.
34 And the children of Israel remembered not the LORD their God, who had delivered them from the hands of all their enemies on every side:
E os filhos de Israel não se lembraram do SENHOR seu Deus, que os havia livrado de todos os seus inimigos ao redor;
35 Neither showed they kindness to the house of Jerubbaal, [namely] Gideon, according to all the goodness which he had shown to Israel.
Nem fizeram misericórdia com a casa de Jerubaal Gideão conforme todo aquele bem que ele havia feito a Israel.
