< John 18 >

1 When Jesus had spoken these words, he went forth with his disciples over the brook Kedron, where was a garden, into which he entered, and his disciples.
Jisuh ni hettelah a ratoum hnukkhu hoi, a hnukkâbangnaw hoi Kidron palang a raka awh teh, haw e takha thung vah a kâen awh.
2 And Judas also, who betrayed him, knew the place: for Jesus often resorted thither with his disciples.
Hote hmuen koe Jisuh hoi a hnukkâbangnaw ouk a ceinae hah Bawipa kapahnawtkung Judah Isakarot ni a panue.
3 Judas then, having received a band [of men] and officers from the chief priests and Pharisees, cometh thither with lanterns, and torches, and weapons.
Hawvah Judah ni ransahu buet touh hoi Farasinaw hoi vaihma bawinaw ni a patoun e karingkungnaw a kaw teh hmaiim hmaito, sarusarai hoi a thokhai.
4 Jesus therefore, knowing all things that were coming upon him, went forth, and said to them, Whom seek ye?
Jisuh ni ama koe ka tho hane kawi teh be a panue dawkvah ahnimouh koe a cei teh apimaw na tawng awh telah a pacei.
5 They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith to them, I am [he]. And Judas also, who betrayed him, stood with them.
Ahnimouh ni Nazareth tami Jisuh atipouh awh. Jisuh ni, kai teh ahni doeh atipouh. Bawipa kapahnawtkung Judah Isakarot hai ahnimouh hoi cungtalah a kangdue.
6 As soon then as he had said to them, I am [he], they went backward, and fell to the ground.
Kai teh ahni doeh ati navah ahnimouh teh hnuklah talai dawk koung a rawp awh.
7 Then he asked them again, Whom seek ye? And they said, Jesus of Nazareth.
Apimaw na tawng awh telah bout a pacei teh, Nazareth tami Jisuh ka tawng awh telah ati awh.
8 Jesus answered, I have told you that I am [he]: If therefore ye seek me, let these go away:
Jisuh ni kai doeh toe ka ti toung nahoehmaw, hatdawkvah kai hah na tawng awh pawiteh, ahnimanaw teh cet awh lawi naseh bout atipouh.
9 That the saying might be fulfilled which he spoke, Of them whom thou gavest to me, I have lost none.
Hettelah a deinae teh, Bawipa nang ni na poe e taminaw buet touh hai kahmat sak mahoeh, ati e lawk a kuep nahane doeh.
10 Then Simon Peter, having a sword, drew it, and smote the servant of the high priest, and cut off his right ear. The servant's name was Malchus.
Ahnie min teh Makhas doeh.
11 Then said Jesus to Peter, Put up thy sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it?
12 Then the band, and the captain, and officers of the Jews took Jesus, and bound him,
Hahoi ransa bawi, ransanaw hoi Judahnaw e karingkungnaw ni Jisuh teh a man awh teh a katek awh.
13 And led him away to Annas first, (for he was father-in-law to Caiaphas, who was the high priest that same year.)
Annas koe hmaloe a ceikhai awh. Annas teh hatnae kum dawk vaihma kacue Kaiaphas e a masei lah ao.
14 Now Caiaphas was he who gave counsel to the Jews, that it was expedient that one man should die for the people.
Kaiaphas teh Judahnaw koe, tami moikapap yueng tami buet touh a due e hoe ahawi, telah pouknae kapoekung doeh.
15 And Simon Peter followed Jesus, and [so did] another disciple. That disciple was known to the high priest, and went in with Jesus into the palace of the high priest.
Simon Piter hoi alouke a hnukkâbang buet touh teh Jisuh hnuk a kâbang roi. Hote a hnukkâbang e teh vaihma kacue hoi a kâpanue dawk Jisuh hoi cungtalah vaihma kacue e toeim thung totouh a kâen thai.
16 But Peter stood at the door without. Then went out that other disciple who was known to the high priest, and spoke to her that kept the door, and brought in Peter.
Hatnavah Piter teh takhang e alawilah a kangdue. Hatdawkvah vaihma kacue hoi kâpanuek e tami ni takhang ka ring e napui koe a dei pouh teh Piter hah a thung lah a kâen sak.
17 Then saith the damsel that kept the door to Peter, Art not thou also [one] of this man's disciples? He saith, I am not.
18 And the servants and officers stood there, who had made a fire of coals; (for it was cold) and they warmed themselves: and Peter stood with them, and warmed himself.
Hatnae tueng nah hroung a pâding dawkvah sannaw hoi karingkungnaw ni hmai a patawi awh teh hmai a kamben awh. Piter hai ahnimouh hoi cungtalah hmai a kamben van.
19 The high priest then asked Jesus concerning his disciples, and concerning his doctrine.
Hatnavah vaihma kacue ni Jisuh hnukkâbangnaw kong hoi a cangkhainae a konglamnaw a kung a khei.
20 Jesus answered him, I spoke openly to the world; I ever taught in the synagogue and in the temple, whither the Jews always resort; and in secret have I said nothing.
A ru lahoi banghai ka sak hoeh.
21 Why dost thou ask me? ask them who heard me, what I have said to them: behold, they know what I have said.
22 And when he had thus spoken, one of the officers who stood by, struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so?
Hottelah a dei navah, ateng ka kangdout e karingkung buet touh ni Jisuh a tambei teh, nang ni vaihma kacue hah telah na dei kawi maw, atipouh.
23 Jesus answered him, If I have spoken evil, bear testimony of the evil: but if well, why smitest thou me?
24 (Now Annas had sent him bound to Caiaphas the high priest.)
Annas ni Bawipa teh kateknae ratham pouh laipalah vaihma kacue Kaiaphas koe a thak awh.
25 And Simon Peter stood and warmed himself. They said therefore to him, Art not thou also [one] of his disciples? He denied [it], and said, I am not.
Simon Piter teh kangdue laihoi hmai a kamben na koevah tami bangpatetnaw ni vah, nang hai ahnie a hnukkâbang van e nahoehmaw telah atipouh navah, kai na hoeh bo atipouh teh a kâpapha.
26 One of the servants of the high priest (being the kinsman of him whose ear Peter cut off) saith, Did not I see thee in the garden with him?
Piter ni a hnâ pak a tâsek pouh e a hui vaihma kacue e avaica ni, nang heh takha thung Jisuh hoi rei na o e na hmu atipouh.
27 Peter then denied again, and immediately the cock crowed.
Piter ni bout a kâpapha, hat nah tahma vah ahlui teh a khawng.
28 Then they led Jesus from Caiaphas to the hall of judgment: and it was early; and they themselves went not into the judgment-hall, lest they should be defiled; but that they might eat the passover.
Amom vah Jisuh teh Kaiaphas im hoi a ceikhai awh teh lawkcengnae im lah a hrawi awh. Ahnimouh ni ceitakhai pawi e bu a ca thai nahan amamae a bawknae phunglam patetlah thoungnae a ngai dawkvah ukkung bawi e imthung lah kâen awh hoeh.
29 Pilate then went out to them, and said, What accusation bring ye against this man?
Hatdawkvah, Pailat bawi ni ahnimouh aonae koe a tâco teh, hat e tami ni bangmaw a yonnae a tawn teh na thokhai awh atipouh.
30 They answered and said to him, If he were not a malefactor, we would not have delivered him up to thee.
31 Then said Pilate to them, Take ye him, and judge him according to your law. The Jews therefore said to him, It is not lawful for us to put any man to death:
Pailat ni vah, Bawipa teh, namamae phung lawk patetlah lawkceng awh atipouh. Ahnimouh ni, kaimanaw ni apihai thei thainae kâ ka tawn awh hoeh atipouh awh.
32 That the saying of Jesus might be fulfilled, which he spoke, signifying what death he should die.
33 Then Pilate entered into the judgment-hall again, and called Jesus, and said to him, Art thou the King of the Jews?
Pailat teh imthungkhu bout a kâen teh Jisuh, nang heh Judah siangpahrang katang maw atipouh.
34 Jesus answered him, Sayest thou this thing from thyself, or did others tell it thee concerning me?
Jisuh ni, hete lawk heh na mahmawk maw na pacei. hoehpawiteh ayâ ni maw nang koe a dei, ati teh a pacei.
35 Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thy own nation, and the chief priests, have delivered thee to me: What hast thou done?
36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.
Hatei, kaie ram teh het talai hoi kâkuen hoeh, atipouh
37 Pilate therefore said to him, Art thou a King then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a King. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should testify to the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.
Pailat bawi nihai, pawiteh, nang heh siangpahrang maw telah a pacei.
38 Pilate saith to him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again to the Jews, and saith to them, I find in him no fault.
Pailat nihai, lawkkatang teh bangmaw titeh a pacei hnukkhu Judahnaw aonae koe a tâco teh, hete tami dawk a yonnae khoeroe kahmawt hoeh.
39 But ye have a custom that I should release to you one at the passover: will ye therefore that I release to you the King of the Jews?

40 Then they all cried again, saying, Not this man, but Barabbas. Now Barabbas was a robber.
