< John 16 >
1 These things have I spoken to you, that ye should not be offended.
“Kuo u tala ʻae ngaahi meʻa ni kiate kimoutolu, koeʻuhi ke ʻoua naʻa mou tūkia.
2 They shall put you out of the synagogues: yes, the time cometh, that whoever killeth you, will think that he doeth God service.
Te nau kapusi ʻakimoutolu mei he falelotu: ʻio, ʻe hokosia ʻae kuonga, ko ia te ne tāmateʻi ʻakimoutolu, ʻe mahalo ʻe ia ko ʻene ngāue lelei ki he ʻOtua.
3 And these things will they do to you, because they have not known the Father, nor me.
Pea te nau fai ʻae ngaahi meʻa ni kiate kimoutolu, koeʻuhi naʻe ʻikai te nau ʻilo ʻae Tamai, pe ko au.
4 But these things have I told you, that when the time shall come, ye may remember that I told you of them. And these things I said not to you at the beginning, because I was with you.
Ka kuo u tala ʻae ngaahi meʻa ni kiate kimoutolu, koeʻuhi ʻoka hoko ʻae kuonga, ke mou manatu naʻaku tala ia kiate kimoutolu. “Pea naʻe ʻikai te u tala ʻae ngaahi meʻa ni kiate kimoutolu ʻi he kamataʻanga, koeʻuhi naʻaku ʻiate kimoutolu.
5 But now I go to him that sent me, and none of you asketh me, Whither goest thou?
Ka ko eni, ʻi heʻeku ʻalu kiate ia naʻa ne fekau au, ʻoku ʻikai fehuʻi hamou tokotaha kiate au, ʻOku ke ʻalu ki fē?
6 But because I have said these things to you, sorrow hath filled your heart.
Ka ko e meʻa ʻi heʻeku tala ʻae ngaahi meʻa ni kiate kimoutolu, kuo pito homou loto ʻi he mamahi.
7 Nevertheless, I tell you the truth: It is expedient for you that I depart; for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come to you; but if I depart, I will send him to you.
Ka ʻoku ou tala ʻae moʻoni kiate kimoutolu, ʻoku ʻaonga kiate kimoutolu ʻeku ʻalu: he kapau ʻe ʻikai te u ʻalu, ʻe ʻikai haʻu kiate kimoutolu ʻae Fakafiemālie; ka ʻi heʻeku ʻalu, te u fekau ia kiate kimoutolu.
8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
Pea ka haʻu ia, te ne valoki ʻa māmani ʻi he angahala, pea ʻi he māʻoniʻoni, pea ʻi he fakamaau:
9 Of sin, because they believe not on me;
ʻI he angahala, ko e meʻa ʻi he ʻikai te nau tui kiate au;
10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;
ʻI he māʻoniʻoni, ko e meʻa ʻi heʻeku ʻalu ki heʻeku Tamai, pea ʻe ʻikai te mou toe mamata kiate au;
11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.
ʻI he fakamaau, ko e meʻa ʻi he fakamaauʻi ʻae ʻeiki ʻo māmani.
12 I have yet many things to say to you, but ye cannot bear them now.
“ʻOku kei lahi ʻae meʻa ʻoku ou fie lea ai kiate kimoutolu, ka ʻoku ʻikai te mou faʻa kātaki ni.
13 But, when he, the Spirit of truth is come, he will guide you into all the truth: for he will not speak from himself; but whatever he shall hear, [that] will he speak: and he will show you things to come.
Ka ʻi he haʻu ʻae Laumālie ʻoe moʻoni, ʻe tataki ʻe ia ʻakimoutolu ki he moʻoni kotoa pē: he ko ʻene lea ʻe ʻikai meiate ia; ka ko e meʻa kotoa pē kuo ne fanongo ki ai, [ko ia ]ia te ne lea ʻaki: pea ʻe fakahā ʻe ia kiate kimoutolu ʻae ngaahi meʻa ʻe hoko.
14 He will glorify me: for he will receive of mine, and will show [it] to you.
ʻE fakaongoongoleleiʻi au ʻe ia: he te ne maʻu ʻaia ʻoku ʻaʻaku, ʻo fakahā ia kiate kimoutolu.
15 All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore I said, that he will take of mine, and show [it] to you.
Ko e meʻa kotoa pē ʻoku ʻae Tamai, ʻoku ʻaʻaku ia: ko ia ne u pehē ai, te ne maʻu ʻaia ʻoku ʻaʻaku, ʻo fakahā ia kiate kimoutolu.
16 A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me, because I go to the Father.
“ʻE toe siʻi, pea ʻe ʻikai te mou mamata kiate au; pea toe siʻi foki, pea te mou mamata kiate au, ko e meʻa ʻi heʻeku ʻalu ki he Tamai.”
17 Then said [some] of his disciples among themselves, What is this that he saith to us, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me: and, Because I go to the Father?
Pea lea ai ʻene kau ākonga niʻihi ʻiate kinautolu, “Ko e hā ʻae meʻa ni ʻoku ne tala kiate kitautolu, ʻE toe siʻi, pea ʻe ʻikai te mou mamata kiate au: pea toe siʻi foki, pea te mou mamata kiate au: pea, ‘Ko e meʻa ʻi heʻeku ʻalu ki he Tamai?’
18 They said therefore, What is this that he saith, A little while? we cannot tell what he saith.
Ko ia naʻa nau pehē ai, Ko e hā ʻae meʻa ni ʻoku ne leaʻaki, ‘ʻE toetoe siʻi?’ ʻOku ʻikai te tau ʻilo ʻene lea.”
19 Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said to them, Do ye inquire among yourselves of that which I said, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me?
Ka naʻe ʻilo ʻe Sisu ʻenau holi ke fehuʻi kiate ia, pea ne pehē kiate kinautolu, “ʻOku mou fehuʻi ʻiate kimoutolu ʻi heʻeku lea, ‘ʻE toe siʻi, pea ʻe ʻikai te mou mamata kiate au: pea toe siʻi foki, pea te mou mamata kiate au?’
20 Verily, verily, I say to you, that ye will weep and lament, but the world will rejoice: and ye will be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.
21 A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.
ʻOka langā ʻae fefine, ʻoku mamahi ia, koeʻuhi kuo hokosia hono ʻaho: ka ʻi heʻene fāʻeleʻi ʻae tama, ʻoku ʻikai kei manatu ia ki he mamahi, koeʻuhi ko ʻene fiefia ʻi he fanauʻi ha tangata ki māmani.
22 And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.
23 And in that day ye will ask me nothing: Verily, verily, I say to you, Whatever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give [it] you.
“Pea ʻi he ʻaho ko ia ʻe ʻikai te mou fehuʻi ha meʻa ʻe taha kiate au. Ko e moʻoni, ko e moʻoni, ʻoku ou tala kiate kimoutolu, Ko e meʻa kotoa pē te mou kole ki he Tamai ʻi hoku huafa, te ne foaki kiate kimoutolu.
24 Hitherto ye have asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.
ʻOku teʻeki ai te mou kole ha meʻa ʻi hoku huafa: kole, pea te mou maʻu, koeʻuhi ke kakato ai hoʻomou fiefia.
25 These things have I spoken to you in proverbs: but the time cometh when I shall no more speak to you in proverbs, but I shall show you plainly concerning the Father.
“Ko e ngaahi meʻa ni kuo u tala kiate kimoutolu ʻi he ngaahi lea fakatātā: ka ʻoku haʻu ʻae ʻaho, ʻe ʻikai te u kei lea ai kiate kimoutolu ʻi he ngaahi lea fakatātā, ka te u fakahā fakapapau kiate kimoutolu ʻi he Tamai.
26 At that day ye will ask in my name: and I say not to you, that I will pray the Father for you:
ʻI he ʻaho ko ia te mou kole ʻi hoku huafa: pea ʻoku ʻikai te u pehē kiate kimoutolu, te u fakakolekole ki he Tamai koeʻuhi ko kimoutolu:
27 For the Father himself loveth you, because ye have loved me, and have believed that I came from God.
He ʻoku ʻofa ʻae Tamai foki kiate kimoutolu, ko e meʻa ʻi hoʻomou ʻofa kiate au, pea ʻi hoʻomou tui naʻaku haʻu mei he ʻOtua.
28 I came forth from the Father, and am come into the world: again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.
Naʻaku haʻu mei he Tamai, pea kuo u haʻu ki māmani: ko eni, ʻoku ou tuku ʻa māmani, kau ʻalu ki he Tamai.”
29 His disciples said to him, Lo, now speakest thou plainly, and speakest no proverb.
Pea pehē ʻe heʻene kau ākonga kiate ia, “Vakai, ko eni ʻoku ke lea ʻilongofua, pea ʻoku ʻikai te ke lea ʻi he fakatātā.
30 Now are we sure that thou knowest all things, and needest not that any man should ask thee: by this we believe that thou camest from God.
Ko eni ʻoku mau ʻilo pau ʻoku ke ʻiloʻi ʻae ngaahi meʻa kotoa pē, pea ʻoku ʻikai ʻaonga ke fehuʻi ʻe ha tokotaha kiate koe: ko e meʻa ni ʻoku mau tui ai kuo ke haʻu mei he ʻOtua.”
31 Jesus answered them, Do ye now believe?
Pea leaange ʻa Sisu kiate kinautolu, “ʻOku mou tui ni koā?
32 Behold, the hour cometh, and is even now come, that ye shall be scattered every man to his own, and shall leave me alone: and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with me.
Vakai, ʻoku haʻu ʻae ʻaho, ʻio, kuo hoko ni, ʻe fakamovete ai ʻakimoutolu, ʻo taki taha maʻana, pea te mou tuku au tokotaha pe: ka ʻoku ʻikai te u tokotaha pe, he ʻoku ʻiate au ʻae Tamai.
33 These things I have spoken to you, that in me ye may have peace. In the world ye will have tribulation, but be of good cheer: I have overcome the world.
Kuo u tala ʻae ngaahi meʻa ni kiate kimoutolu, koeʻuhi ke mou maʻu ʻae fiemālie ʻiate au. Te mou maʻu ʻae mamahi ʻi māmani: ka mou lototoʻa; kuo u ikuʻi ʻa māmani.”
