Job 9
1 Then Job answered and said,
A Hiob odpowiedział:
2 I know [it to be] so of a truth: but how should man be just with God?
Doprawdy, wiem, że tak [jest]. Lecz jak człowiek miałby być usprawiedliwiony przed Bogiem?
3 If he will contend with him, he cannot answer him one of a thousand.
Gdyby chciał się z nim spierać, nie odpowie mu ani raz na tysiąc.
4 [He is] wise in heart, and mighty in strength: who hath hardened [himself] against him, and hath prospered?
Ma on mądre serce i potężną siłę. Kto mu się sprzeciwił i powodziło mu się?
5 Who removeth the mountains, and they know not: who overturneth them in his anger.
On przenosi góry, a [ludzie] nie zauważają, przewraca je w swoim gniewie.
6 Who shaketh the earth out of her place, and its pillars tremble.
On wstrząsa ziemią z jej miejsca i trzęsą się jej filary.
7 Who commandeth the sun, and it riseth not; and sealeth up the stars.
On rozkaże słońcu i ono nie wschodzi, zamyka też gwiazdy pieczęcią.
8 Who alone spreadeth out the heavens, and treadeth upon the waves of the sea.
On sam rozciąga niebiosa i kroczy po falach morza.
9 Who maketh Arcturus, Orion, and Pleiades, and the chambers of the south.
On stworzył Niedźwiedzicę, Oriona, Plejady i gwiazdozbiory południa.
10 Who doeth great things past finding out; yes, and wonders without number.
On czyni rzeczy wielkie i niezbadane, cuda, których zliczyć nie można.
11 Lo, he goeth by me, and I see [him] not: he passeth on also, but I perceive him not.
Oto przechodzi obok mnie, a nie widzę go; mija mnie, a ja go nie dostrzegam.
12 Behold, he taketh away, who can hinder him? who will say to him, What doest thou?
Oto gdy zabiera, któż go powstrzyma? Któż mu powie: Co czynisz?
13 [If] God will not withdraw his anger, the proud helpers do stoop under him.
Gdyby Bóg nie odwrócił swego gniewu, zuchwali pomocnicy upadliby pod nim.
14 How much less shall I answer him, [and] choose out my words [to reason] with him?
Jakże ja mu odpowiem? [Jakie] słowa wybiorę, aby się z nim spierać?
15 Whom, though I were righteous, [yet] would I not answer, [but] I would make supplication to my judge.
Choćbym był sprawiedliwy, nie odpowiedziałbym mu, lecz błagałbym swojego sędziego.
16 If I had called, and he had answered me; [yet] I would not believe that he had hearkened to my voice.
Choćbym go wzywał, a on by się odezwał, jeszcze nie uwierzyłbym, że mnie wysłuchał;
17 For he breaketh me with a tempest, and multiplieth my wounds without cause.
Kruszy mnie bowiem burzą i pomnaża moje rany bez powodu.
18 He will not suffer me to take my breath, but filleth me with bitterness.
Nie pozwala mi odetchnąć, raczej napełnia mnie goryczą.
19 If [I speak] of strength, lo, [he is] strong: and if of judgment, who shall set me a time [to plead]?
Jeśli [chodzi] o siłę, oto jest potężny, a jeśli chodzi o sąd, któż mnie przed nim przyprowadzi?
20 If I justify myself, my own mouth will condemn me: [if I say], I [am] perfect, that also will prove me perverse.
Jeśli się usprawiedliwię, moje usta mnie potępią. Jeśli powiem, że jestem doskonały, to one wykażą, że jestem przewrotny.
21 [Though] I [were] perfect, [yet] would I not know my soul: I would despise my life.
Choćbym był doskonały, przecież nie znałbym swojej duszy; gardziłbym swoim życiem.
22 This [is] one [thing], therefore I said [it], he destroyeth the perfect and the wicked.
Jedno jest [pewne], dlatego powiedziałem: On niszczy [zarówno] doskonałego, [jak] i niegodziwego;
23 If the scourge shall slay suddenly, he will laugh at the trial of the innocent.
Jeśli bicz nagle zabija, śmieje się on z doświadczenia niewinnych.
24 The earth is given into the hand of the wicked: he covereth the faces of its judges; if not, where, [and] who [is] he?
Ziemia została wydana w ręce niegodziwego. On zakrywa oblicze sędziów. A jeśli nie on, któż [to czyni]?
25 Now my days are swifter than a post: they flee away, they see no good.
Ale moje dni są szybsze niż goniec, uciekły i nie widziały nic dobrego.
26 They are passed away as the swift ships: as the eagle [that] hasteth to the prey.
Przeminęły jak szybkie łodzie, jak orzeł, który rzuca się na żer.
27 If I say, I will forget my complaint, I will leave off my heaviness, and comfort [myself]:
Jeśli powiem: Zapomnę o swojej skardze, zaniecham swego gniewu i pocieszę się;
28 I am afraid of all my sorrows, I know that thou wilt not hold me innocent.
Wtedy przerażają mnie wszystkie moje cierpienia, bo wiem, że nie uznasz mnie za niewinnego.
29 [If] I am wicked, why then do I labor in vain?
Jeśli jestem niegodziwy, to czemu trudzę się na próżno?
30 If I wash myself with snow water, and make my hands never so clean;
Choćbym się umył wodą ze śniegu i oczyścił mydłem swoje ręce;
31 Yet wilt thou plunge me in the ditch, and my own clothes shall abhor me.
Ty i tak zanurzysz mnie w dole i moje szaty będą się mną brzydzić.
32 For [he is] not a man, as I [am], [that] I should answer him, [and] we should come together in judgment.
On bowiem nie jest człowiekiem jak ja, abym śmiał mu odpowiedzieć i abyśmy razem stanęli przed sądem.
33 Neither is there any judge between us, [that] might lay his hand upon us both.
Nie ma między nami rozjemcy, który mógłby położyć rękę na nas obu.
34 Let him take away his rod from me, and let not his fear terrify me:
Niech tylko zdejmie ze mnie swoją rózgę, a jego groza niech mnie już nie przeraża;
35 [Then] would I speak, and not fear him; but [it is] not so with me.
Wtedy będę mówił i nie będę się go bać; ale tak nie jest ze mną.
