Job 7
1 [Is there] not an appointed time to man upon earth? [are not] his days also like the days of a hireling?
"Ist nicht im Dienst der Mensch auf Erden? Ist nicht sein Los ein Frönerleben?
2 As a servant earnestly desireth the shadow, and as a hireling looketh for [the reward of] his work;
Dem Sklaven gleich, der nur nach Schatten lechzt, dem Fröner, der um seinen Lohn sich sorgt.
3 So am I made to possess months of vanity, and wearisome nights are appointed to me.
So hoffte ich auf Ruhemonde; da wurden Kummernächte mir zuteil.
4 When I lie down, I say, When shall I arise, and the night be gone? and I am full of tossings to and fro to the dawning of the day.
Und lege ich mich nieder, frage ich: 'Wann darf ich mich erheben?' Und zieht der Abend sich dahin, dann bin ich satt von Unrast bis zur Nachtzeit.
5 My flesh is clothed with worms and clods of dust; my skin is broken and become lothsome.
Mein Körper kleidet sich in Fäulnis, in erdige Kruste, und meine Haut vernarbt und wird dann wieder flüssig.
6 My days are swifter than a weaver's shuttle, and are spent without hope.
Weit schneller fliegen meine Tage hin als Weberschiffchen. Sie schwinden ohne Hoffnung hin.
7 O remember that my life [is] wind: my eye will no more see good.
Bedenke, daß ein Hauch mein Leben! Nie schaut mein Auge wieder Gutes.
8 The eye of him that hath seen me shall see me no [more]: thy eyes [are] upon me, and I [am] not.
Wer später nach mir schaut, des Auge sieht mich nimmer. Mich suchen deine Augen; ich bin nicht mehr.
9 [As] the cloud is consumed and vanisheth away: so he that goeth down to the grave shall come up no [more]. (Sheol h7585)
Die Wolke schwindet und zergeht, Und wer zum Totenreiche steigt, der kommt nicht mehr herauf. (Sheol h7585)
10 He shall return no more to his house, neither shall his place know him any more.
Nie kehrt er wieder in sein Haus, und seine Heimat sieht ihn niemals mehr.
11 Therefore I will not restrain my mouth; I will speak in the anguish of my spirit; I will complain in the bitterness of my soul.
So will ich meinen Mund nicht hemmen, nein, aussprechen, was mir das Herz beklemmt. Ich rede so in meiner Seele Bitternis:
12 [Am] I a sea, or a whale, that thou settest a watch over me?
'Bin ich ein Meer, bin ich ein Ungeheuer, daß Du Schlaflosigkeit mir auferlegst?'
13 When I say, My bed shall comfort me, my couch shall ease my complaint;
Ich denke, daß mein Bett mich tröstete und daß mit mir mein Lager trüge auch mein Leid.
14 Then thou scarest me with dreams, and terrifiest me through visions:
Da scheuchst Du mich durch wirre Träume auf; durch Angstgestalten schreckst Du mich.
15 So that my soul chooseth strangling, [and] death rather than my life.
Erwürgung, Sterben hätte meine Seele lieber als diese meine Schmerzen.
16 I lothe [it]; I would not live always: let me alone; for my days [are] vanity.
Ich habe es jetzt aufgegeben, immerfort zu eben. Laß ab von mir! Denn meine Tage sind ein Hauch.
17 What [is] man, that thou shouldst magnify him? and that thou shouldst set thy heart upon him?
Was ist der Mensch für Dich denn Großes, daß Du Dich so mit ihm befassest,
18 And [that] thou shouldst visit him every morning, [and] try him every moment?
ihn untersuchst an jedem Morgen, in jedem Augenblick ihn prüfest?
19 How long wilt thou not depart from me, nor let me alone till I swallow my spittle?
Wie lange ist's, daß Du den Blick nicht von mir wendest, mir keine Ruhe lässest, bis ich nur meinen Speichel schluckte?
20 I have sinned; what shall I do to thee, O thou preserver of men? why hast thou set me as a mark against thee, so that I am a burden to myself?
Und habe ich gesündigt, was tu ich Dir damit, Du Menschenwächter? Was machst Du mich für Dich zur Scheibe? Weswegen diene ich zum Ziele Dir?
21 And why dost thou not pardon my transgression, and take away my iniquity? for now shall I sleep in the dust; and thou shalt seek me in the morning, but I [shall] not [be].
Kannst Du mir nicht verzeihen, hingehen lassen meine Schuld? Dann läge ich gar bald im Staube, und suchtest Du mich auf, ich wäre nimmermehr."
