Job 41
1 Canst thou draw out leviathan with a hook? or his tongue with a cord [which] thou lettest down?
¿Sacarás tú al leviatán con el anzuelo, o con la cuerda que le echares en su lengua?
2 Canst thou put a hook into his nose? or bore his jaw through with a thorn?
¿Pondrás tú garfio en sus narices, y horadarás con espinas su quijada?
3 Will he make many supplications to thee? will he speak soft [words] to thee?
¿Por ventura multiplicará él ruegos para contigo? ¿Te hablará él lisonjas?
4 Will he make a covenant with thee? wilt thou take him for a servant for ever?
¿Por ventura hará concierto contigo para que lo tomes por siervo perpetuo?
5 Wilt thou play with him as [with] a bird? or wilt thou bind him for thy maidens?
¿Jugarás por ventura con él como con pájaro, y lo atarás para tus niñas?
6 Shall the companions make a banquet of him? shall they part him among the merchants.
¿Por ventura harán banquete por causa de los compañeros? ¿Lo partirán entre los mercaderes?
7 Canst thou fill his skin with barbed irons? or his head with fish spears?
¿Cortarás tú con cuchillo su cuero, o con asta de pescadores su cabeza?
8 Lay thy hand upon him, remember the battle, do no more.
Pon tu mano sobre él; te acordarás de la batalla, y nunca más tornarás.
9 Behold, the hope of him is in vain: shall not [one] be cast down even at the sight of him?
He aquí que tu esperanza acerca de él será burlada; porque aun a su sola vista se desmayarán.
10 None [is so] fierce that he dare rouse him: who then is able to stand before me?
Nadie hay tan osado que lo despierte; ¿quién pues podrá estar delante de mí?
11 Who hath first benefited me, that I should repay [him]? [whatever is] under the whole heaven is mine.
¿Quién me ha anticipado, para que yo restituya? Todo lo que hay debajo del cielo es mío.
12 I will not conceal his parts, nor his power, nor his comely proportion.
Yo no callaré sus miembros, ni lo de sus fuerzas y la gracia de su disposición.
13 Who can discover the face of his garment? [or] who can come [to him] with his double bridle?
¿Quién descubrirá la delantera de su vestidura? ¿Quién se llegará a él con freno doble?
14 Who can open the doors of his face? his teeth [are] terrible around.
¿Quién abrirá las puertas de su rostro? Los órdenes de sus dientes espantan.
15 [His] scales [are his] pride, shut together [as with] a close seal.
La gloria de su vestido son escudos fuertes, cerrados entre sí estrechamente.
16 One is so near to another, that no air can come between them.
El uno se junta con el otro, que viento no entra entre ellos.
17 They are joined one to another, they stick together, that they cannot be sundered.
Pegado está el uno con el otro, están trabados entre sí, que no se pueden apartar.
18 His sneezings flash light, and his eyes [are] like the eyelids of the morning.
Con sus estornudos encienden lumbre, y sus ojos son como los párpados del alba.
19 Out of his mouth go burning lamps, [and] sparks of fire dart forth.
De su boca salen hachas de fuego, centellas de fuego proceden.
20 Out of his nostrils issueth smoke, as [out] of a seething pot or caldron.
De sus narices sale humo como de una olla o caldero que hierve.
21 His breath kindleth coals, and a flame issueth from his mouth.
Su aliento enciende los carbones, y de su boca sale llama.
22 In his neck remaineth strength, and sorrow is turned into joy before him.
En su cerviz mora la fortaleza, y delante de él es deshecho el trabajo.
23 The flakes of his flesh are joined together: they are firm in themselves; they cannot be moved.
Las partes de su carne están pegadas entre sí; está firme su carne en él, y no se mueve.
24 His heart is as firm as a stone; yes, as hard as a piece of the nether [millstone].
Su corazón es firme como una piedra, y fuerte como la muela de abajo.
25 When he raiseth himself, the mighty are afraid: by reason of breakings they purify themselves.
De su grandeza tienen temor los fuertes, y de sus desmayos se purgan.
26 The sword of him that attacketh him cannot hold: the spear, the dart, nor the habergeon.
Cuando alguno lo alcanzare, ni espada, ni lanza, ni dardo, ni coselete durará contra él.
27 He esteemeth iron as straw, [and] brass as rotten wood.
El hierro estima por pajas, y el acero por leño podrido.
28 The arrow cannot make him flee: sling-stones are turned with him into stubble.
Saeta no le hace huir; las piedras de honda se le tornan aristas.
29 Darts are counted as stubble: he laugheth at the shaking of a spear.
Tiene toda arma por hojarascas, y del blandir de la pica se burla.
30 Sharp stones [are] under him: he spreadeth sharp pointed things upon the mire.
Por debajo tiene agudas conchas; imprime su agudez en el suelo.
31 He maketh the deep to boil like a pot: he maketh the sea like a pot of ointment.
Hace hervir como una olla el mar profundo, y lo vuelve como una olla de ungüento.
32 He maketh a path to shine after him; [one] would think the deep [to be] hoary.
En pos de sí hace resplandecer la senda, que parece que el mar es cano.
33 Upon earth there is not his like, who is made without fear.
No hay sobre la tierra su semejante, hecho para nada temer.
34 He beholdeth all high [things]: he [is] a king over all the children of pride.
Menosprecia toda cosa alta; es rey sobre todos los soberbios.
