Job 38

1 Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,

Dann antwortete Jahwe Hiob aus dem Wettersturm und sprach:

2 Who [is] this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?

Wer da verdunkelt Ratschluß mit Worten ohne Einsicht?

3 Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me.

Auf, gürte deine Lenden wie ein Mann; so will ich dich fragen und du belehre mich!

4 Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth? declare, if thou hast understanding.

Wo warst du, als ich die Erde gründete? Sag an, wenn du Einsicht besitzest?

5 Who hath laid the measures of it, if thou knowest? or who hath stretched the line upon it?

Wer hat ihre Maße bestimmt - du weißt es ja! - oder wer hat über sie die Meßschnur gespannt?

6 Upon what are the foundations of it fastened? or who laid its corner stone;

Worauf sind ihre Pfeiler eingesenkt, oder wer hat ihren Eckstein hingeworfen,

7 When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?

unter dem Jubel der Morgensterne allzumal, als alle Gottessöhne jauchzten?

8 Or [who] shut up the sea with doors, when it broke forth, [as if] it had issued out of the womb?

Wer verwahrte hinter Thoren das Meer, als es hervorbrach, aus dem Mutterschoß hervorging,

9 When I made a cloud its garment, and thick darkness a swaddling band for it,

als ich Gewölk zu seinem Kleide machte und dichte Finsternis zu seinen Windeln?

10 And broke up for it my decreed [place], and set bars and doors,

als ich ihm seine Grenze ausbrach und Riegel und Thore setzte

11 And said, Hitherto shalt thou come, but no further: and here shall thy proud waves be stayed.

und sprach: “Bis hierher sollst du kommen und nicht weiter und hier soll sich brechen deiner Wogen Übermut!”

12 Hast thou commanded the morning since thy days; [and] caused the day-spring to know its place;

Hast du je in deinem Leben dem Morgen geboten, dem Frührot seine Stätte angewiesen,

13 That it might take hold of the ends of earth, that the wicked might be shaken out of it?

die Säume der Erde zu fassen, daß die Frevler von ihr abgeschüttelt werden?

14 It is turned as clay [to] the seal; and they stand as a garment.

Sie verwandelt sich wie Thon unter dem Siegel; sie stellen sich dar wie ein Gewand.

15 And from the wicked their light is withheld, and the high arm shall be broken.

Und den Frevlern wird ihr Licht entzogen, und der schon erhobene Arm wird zerschmettert.

16 Hast thou entered into the springs of the sea? or hast thou walked in the search of the depth?

Bist du zu des Meeres Strudeln gelangt und bist du auf dem Grund der Tiefe gewandelt?

17 Have the gates of death been opened to thee? or hast thou seen the doors of the shades of death?

Haben sich dir des Todes Thore aufgethan, und schautest du die Thore des tiefen Dunkels?

18 Hast thou perceived the breadth of the earth? declare if thou knowest it all.

Hast du der Erde Breiten überschaut? Sag an, wenn du das alles weißt!

19 Where [is] the way [where] light dwelleth? and [as for] darkness, where [is] its place,

Wo hoch ist der Weg dahin, wo das Licht wohnt, und die Finsternis, - wo ist doch ihre Stätte,

20 That thou shouldest take it to its bound, and that thou shouldest know the paths [to] its house?

daß du sie in ihr Gehege brächtest und die Pfade zu ihrem Hause kenntest?

21 Knowest thou [it], because thou wast then born? or [because] the number of thy days [is] great?

Du weißt es, denn damals wurdest du geboren, und deiner Tage Zahl ist groß!

22 Hast thou entered into the treasures of the snow? or hast thou seen the treasures of the hail,

Bist du zu den Speichern des Schnees gelangt und hast du die Speicher des Hagels erschaut,

23 Which I have reserved against the time of trouble, against the day of battle and war?

den ich aufgespart habe für die Drangsalszeit, für den Tag der Schlacht und des Kriegs?

24 By what way is the light parted, [which] scattereth the east wind upon the earth?

Wo doch ist der Weg dahin, wo das Licht sich teilt, der Ost sich über die Erde verbreitet?

25 Who hath divided a watercourse for the overflowing of waters, or a way for the lightning of thunder;

Wer hat dem Regen Kanäle gespalten und einen Weg dem Wetterstrahl,

26 To cause it to rain on the earth, [where] no man [is]; [on] the wilderness in which [there is] no man;

um es regnen zu lassen auf menschenleeres Land, auf die Wüste, in der niemand wohnt,

27 To satisfy the desolate and waste [ground]; and to cause the bud of the tender herb to spring forth?

um Öde und Wildnis zu sättigen und frischen Graswuchs sprießen zu lassen?

28 Hath the rain a father? or who hath begotten the drops of the dew?

Hat der Regen einen Vater, oder wer hat die Tautropfen gezeugt?

29 Out of whose womb came the ice? and the hoary frost of heaven, who hath gendered it?

Aus wessen Schoße ging das Eis hervor, und des Himmels Reif, wer hat ihn geboren?

30 The waters are hid as [with] a stone, and the face of the deep is frozen.

Wie Stein verdichten sich die Wasser, und die Fläche der Flut hält fest zusammen.

31 Canst thou bind the sweet influences of Pleiades, or loose the bands of Orion?

Vermagst du die Bande der Plejaden zu knüpfen oder die Fesseln des Orions zu lösen?

32 Canst thou bring forth Mazzaroth in its season? or canst thou guide Arcturus with its sons?

Führst du die Tierkreisbilder heraus zu ihrer Zeit und leitest du den Bär samt seinen Jungen?

33 Knowest thou the ordinances of heaven? canst thou set its dominion on the earth?

Kennst du die Gesetze des Himmels oder bestimmst du seine Herrschaft über die Erde?

34 Canst thou lift thy voice to the clouds, that abundance of waters may cover thee?

Erhebst du zur Wolke deine Stimme, daß Schwall von Wassern dich bedecke?

35 Canst thou send lightnings, that they may go, and say to thee, Here we [are]?

Entsendest du Blitze, daß sie hinfahren und zu dir sagen: Hier sind wir?

36 Who hath put wisdom in the inward parts? or who hath given understanding to the heart?

Wer hat ins Wolkendunkel Weisheit gelegt oder wer verlieh dem Luftgebilde Verstand?

37 Who can number the clouds in wisdom? or who can stay the bottles of heaven,

Wer zählt die Wolken mit Weisheit ab, und die Krüge des Himmels - wer legt sie um,

38 When the dust groweth into hardness, and the clods cleave fast together?

wenn das Erdreich zu Gußwerk zusammenfließt, und die Schollen aneinander kleben?

39 Wilt thou hunt the prey for the lion? or fill the appetite of the young lions,

Erjagst du für die Löwin Beute und stillst du die Gier der jungen Löwen,

40 When they couch in [their] dens, [and] abide in the covert to lie in wait?

wenn sie sich in den Lagerstätten ducken, im Dickicht auf der Lauer liegen?

41 Who provideth for the raven his food? when his young ones cry to God, they wander for want of food.

Wer bereitet dem Raben seine Zehrung, wenn seine Jungen zu Gott schreien, umherirren ohne Nahrung?
