< Job 35 >
1 Elihu spoke moreover, and said,
Pea naʻe fai pe ʻe Elihu ʻa ʻene lea, ʻo ne pehē,
2 Thinkest thou this to be right, [that] thou saidst, My righteousness [is] more than God's?
“ʻOku ke mahalo ʻoku totonu eni, ʻa hoʻo lea ʻo pehē, ‘Ko ʻeku māʻoniʻoni ʻoku lahi ki he ʻOtua?’
3 For thou saidst, What advantage will it be to thee? [and], What profit shall I have, [if I be cleansed] from my sin?
He naʻa ke pehē, ‘Ko e hā hono ʻaonga kiate koe? Pea ko e hā ʻae totongi te u maʻu [ʻo kapau ʻe fakamaʻa ]au mei heʻeku angahala?’
4 I will answer thee, and thy companions with thee.
Te u tala kiate koe, mo kinautolu ʻoku kaumeʻa mo koe.
5 Look to the heavens, and see; and behold the clouds [which] are higher than thou.
Sio ki he ngaahi langi, ʻo mamata; pea vakai ki he ngaahi ʻao ʻaia ʻoku māʻolunga hake ʻiate koe.
6 If thou sinnest, what doest thou against him? or [if] thy transgressions are multiplied, what doest thou to him?
Kapau ʻoku ke fai angahala, ko e hā ʻoku ke fai kiate ia? Pea kapau kuo tupu ʻo lahi ʻa hoʻo talangataʻa, ko e hā ʻoku ke fai kiate ia?
7 If thou art righteous, what givest thou to him? or what receiveth he from thy hand?
Kapau ʻoku ke māʻoniʻoni, ko e hā ʻoku ke foaki kiate ia? Pe ko e hā ia ʻoku ne maʻu ʻi ho nima?
8 Thy wickedness [may hurt] a man as thou [art]: and thy righteousness [may profit] the son of man.
ʻE kovi nai hoʻo angahala ki he tangata ʻo hangē ko koe; pea ʻe ʻaonga nai hoʻo māʻoniʻoni ki he foha ʻoe tangata.
9 By reason of the multitude of oppressions they make [the oppressed] to cry: they cry out by reason of the arm of the mighty.
“Ko e meʻa ʻi he lahi ʻoe ngaahi meʻa fakamālohi ʻoku tangi ai ʻae kau fakamālohia, ʻoku nau tangi kalanga ʻi he nima ʻoe mālohi.
10 But none saith, Where [is] God my maker, who giveth songs in the night;
Ka ʻoku ʻikai pehē ʻe ha taha, ‘Kofaʻā ia ʻae ʻOtua ko hoku tupuʻanga, ʻaia ʻoku ne foaki ʻae ngaahi hiva ʻi he pō;
11 Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth, and maketh us wiser than the fowls of heaven?
ʻAia ʻoku ako lahi hake kiate kitautolu ʻi he ngaahi manu ʻoe fonua, ʻo ne fakapoto lahi hake ʻakitautolu ʻi he ngaahi manupuna ʻoe ʻatā?’
12 There they cry, but none giveth answer, because of the pride of evil men.
ʻOku nau tangi ʻi ai, ka ʻoku ʻikai lea ha tokotaha, ko e meʻa ʻi he laukau ʻae kau tangata kovi.
13 Surely God will not hear vanity, neither will the Almighty regard it.
Ko e moʻoni ʻe ʻikai fanongo ʻae ʻOtua ki he launoa, pea ʻe ʻikai tokanga ki ai ʻae Māfimafi.
14 Although thou sayest thou shalt not see him, [yet] judgment [is] before him; therefore trust thou in him.
Naʻa ke lea, ʻo pehē, ‘ʻE ʻikai te ke mamata kiate ia, ka ʻoku ʻi hono ʻao ʻae fakamaau, ko ia ke ke falala kiate ia.
15 But now, because [it is] not [so], he hath visited in his anger; yet he knoweth [it] not in great extremity:
Ka koeʻuhi ʻoku ʻikai pehē eni, ko ia kuo ne ʻaʻahi ai ʻi hono houhau; ka ʻoku ʻikai te ne ʻilo ia ʻi he mamahi lahi:
16 Therefore doth Job open his mouth in vain; he multiplieth words without knowledge.
Ko ia ʻoku mafaʻa taʻeʻaonga ai ʻae ngutu ʻo Siope; ʻoku ne fakalahi ʻae ngaahi lea ʻi he taʻeʻilo.
