Job 2
1 Again there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them to present himself before the LORD.
പിന്നീട് ഒരു ദിവസം ദൈവദൂതന്മാർ യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയിൽ മുഖം കാണിക്കാൻ ചെന്നു. അവരുടെ കൂട്ടത്തിൽ സാത്താനും യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധിയിൽ മുഖം കാണിക്കാൻ എത്തിയിരുന്നു.
2 And the LORD said to Satan, Whence comest thou? and Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro on the earth, and from walking up and down upon it.
യഹോവ സാത്താനോട്: “നീ എവിടെനിന്നു വരുന്നു?” എന്നു ചോദിച്ചു. “ഞാൻ ഭൂമിയിലെല്ലാം ചുറ്റിസഞ്ചരിച്ച് സകലവും നിരീക്ഷിച്ചിട്ടു വരുന്നു” എന്നു സാത്താൻ മറുപടി പറഞ്ഞു.
3 And the LORD said to Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that [there is] none like him on the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and shunneth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause.
യഹോവ സാത്താനോട് പറഞ്ഞു: “എന്റെ ദാസനായ ഇയ്യോബിനെ നീ ശ്രദ്ധിച്ചുവോ? അവനെപ്പോലെ നിഷ്കളങ്കനും പരമാർഥിയും ദൈവത്തെ ഭയപ്പെടുന്നവനും തിന്മയിൽനിന്ന് അകന്നു ജീവിക്കുന്നവനുമായി ഭൂമിയിൽ ആരുംതന്നെ ഇല്ലല്ലോ. അവൻ ഇപ്പോഴും തന്റെ വിശ്വസ്തത മുറുകെപ്പിടിച്ചിരിക്കുന്നു; യാതൊരു കാരണവുംകൂടാതെ അവനെ നശിപ്പിക്കുന്നതിനു നീ എന്നെ അവനെതിരായി പ്രകോപിപ്പിച്ചല്ലോ.”
4 And Satan answered the LORD, and said, Skin for skin, even, all that a man hath will he give for his life.
സാത്താൻ യഹോവയോടു മറുപടി പറഞ്ഞു: “ത്വക്കിനുപകരം ത്വക്കുമാത്രം; ഒരു മനുഷ്യൻ തന്റെ ജീവനുവേണ്ടി തനിക്കുള്ളതൊക്കെയും ത്യജിച്ചുകളയും.
5 But put forth thy hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse thee to thy face.
ഇപ്പോൾ അങ്ങ് കൈനീട്ടി അവന്റെ അസ്ഥിയും മാംസവും ഒന്നു തൊടുക. അവൻ മുഖത്തുനോക്കി അങ്ങയെ ദുഷിച്ചു പറയും.”
6 And the LORD said to Satan, Behold, he [is] in thy hand; but save his life.
യഹോവ സാത്താനോട്: “അങ്ങനെയെങ്കിൽ ഇതാ, അവനെ നിന്റെ ഇഷ്ടത്തിനു വിട്ടുതരുന്നു; അവന്റെ ജീവനെമാത്രം തൊടരുത്” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
7 So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD, and smote Job with sore boils from the sole of his foot to his crown.
അങ്ങനെ സാത്താൻ യഹോവയുടെ സന്നിധി വിട്ടുപോയി. അവൻ ഇയ്യോബിനെ ഉള്ളംകാൽമുതൽ ഉച്ചിവരെ കഠിനമായ പരുക്കളാൽ ബാധിച്ചു.
8 And he took him a potsherd to scrape himself with [it]; and he sat down among the ashes.
അദ്ദേഹം ചാരത്തിലിരുന്ന് ഒരു ഓട്ടുകഷണംകൊണ്ടു തന്നത്താൻ ചുരണ്ടിക്കൊണ്ടിരുന്നു.
9 Then said his wife to him, Dost thou still retain thy integrity? curse God, and die.
അവന്റെ ഭാര്യ അവനോട്: “നീ ഇപ്പോഴും ദൈവത്തോടു വിശ്വസ്തനായി കഴിയുന്നോ? ദൈവത്തെ ശപിച്ചിട്ട് മരിക്കുക!” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു.
10 But he said to her, Thou speakest as one of the foolish women speaketh. What? shall we receive good at the hand of God, and shall we not receive evil? In all this did not Job sin with his lips.
അതിന് ഇയ്യോബ്, “ഒരു ബുദ്ധികെട്ട സ്ത്രീ സംസാരിക്കുന്നതുപോലെ നീ സംസാരിക്കുന്നു. നാം ദൈവത്തിൽനിന്ന് നന്മമാത്രമാണോ സ്വീകരിക്കേണ്ടത്; തിന്മയും സ്വീകരിക്കേണ്ടതല്ലേ?” എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. ഈ കാര്യങ്ങളിലൊന്നും ഇയ്യോബ് തന്റെ അധരങ്ങൾകൊണ്ടു പാപം ചെയ്തില്ല.
11 Now when Job's three friends heard of all this evil that had come upon him, they came every one from his own place; Eliphaz the Temanite, and Bildad the Shuhite, and Zophar the Naamathite; for they had made an appointment together to come to mourn with him, and to comfort him.
തേമാന്യനായ എലീഫാസ്, ശൂഹ്യനായ ബിൽദാദ്, നാമാത്യനായ സോഫർ എന്നിങ്ങനെ ഇയ്യോബിന്റെ മൂന്നു സ്നേഹിതന്മാർ അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ ദുരവസ്ഥയെപ്പറ്റി കേട്ടിട്ട് ഓരോരുത്തനും അവരവരുടെ സ്ഥലത്തുനിന്നും പുറപ്പെട്ട് അദ്ദേഹത്തോടു സഹതപിക്കാനും അദ്ദേഹത്തെ സമാശ്വസിപ്പിക്കാനുമായി പരസ്പരം പറഞ്ഞൊത്ത് അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ അടുക്കൽവന്നു.
12 And when they lifted up their eyes afar off, and knew him not, they raised their voice, and wept; and they rent every one his mantle, and sprinkled dust upon their heads towards heaven.
ഇയ്യോബിനെ ദൂരെനിന്നു കണ്ട അവർക്ക് അദ്ദേഹത്തെ തിരിച്ചറിയുന്നതിനു കഴിഞ്ഞില്ല. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ അവസ്ഥ മനസ്സിലാക്കിയ അവർ ഉച്ചത്തിൽ കരഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ട് ഓരോരുത്തനും താന്താങ്ങളുടെ പുറങ്കുപ്പായം വലിച്ചുകീറുകയും തങ്ങളുടെ ശിരസ്സിന്മേൽ പൂഴി വാരിവിതറുകയും ചെയ്തു.
13 So they sat down with him upon the ground seven days and seven nights, and none spoke a word to him: for they saw that [his] grief was very great.
അതിനുശേഷം അവർ ഏഴു രാപകൽ അദ്ദേഹത്തോടുകൂടെ നിലത്തിരുന്നു. അദ്ദേഹത്തിന്റെ കഷ്ടതയുടെ പരിതാപകരമായ അവസ്ഥ കണ്ടിട്ട് അവർ ആരും ഒരു വാക്കുപോലും സംസാരിച്ചില്ല.
