Job 15
1 Then answered Eliphaz the Temanite, and said,
Então respondeu Eliphaz o themanita, e disse:
2 Should a wise men utter vain knowledge, and fill his belly with the east wind?
Porventura dará o sábio por resposta ciência de vento? e encherá o seu ventre de vento oriental?
3 Should he reason with unprofitable talk? or with speeches with which he can do no good?
Arguindo com palavras que de nada servem e com razões, com que nada aproveita?
4 Yes, thou castest off fear, and restrainest prayer before God.
E tu tens feito vão o temor, e diminues os rogos diante de Deus.
5 For thy mouth uttereth thy iniquity, and thou choosest the tongue of the crafty.
Porque a tua boca declara a tua iniquidade; e tu escolheste a língua dos astutos.
6 Thy own mouth condemneth thee, and not I: yes, thy own lips testify against thee.
A tua boca te condena, e não eu, e os teus lábios testificam contra ti.
7 [Art] thou the first man [that] was born? or wast thou made before the hills?
És tu porventura o primeiro homem que foi nascido? ou foste gerado antes dos outeiros?
8 Hast thou heard the secret of God? and dost thou restrain wisdom to thyself?
Ou ouviste o secreto conselho de Deus? e a ti só limitaste a sabedoria?
9 What knowest thou that we know not? [what] understandest thou, which [is] not in us?
Que sabes tu, que nós não sabemos? e que entendes, que não haja em nós?
10 With us [are] both the gray headed and very aged men, much older than thy father.
Também há entre nós encanecidos e idosos, muito mais idosos do que teu pai.
11 [Are] the consolations of God small with thee? is there any secret thing with thee?
Porventura as consolações de Deus te são pequenas? ou alguma coisa se oculta em ti
12 Why doth thy heart carry thee away? and what do thy eyes wink at,
Porque te arrebata o teu coração? e porque acenam os teus olhos?
13 That thou turnest thy spirit against God, and lettest [such] words go out of thy mouth?
Para virares contra Deus o teu espírito, e deixares sair tais palavras da tua boca?
14 What [is] man, that he should be clean? and [he who is] born of a woman, that he should be righteous?
Que é o homem, para que seja puro? e o que nasce da mulher, para que fique justo?
15 Behold, he putteth no trust in his saints; yes, the heavens are not clean in his sight.
Eis que nos seus santos não confiaria, e nem os céus são puros aos seus olhos.
16 How much more abominable and filthy [is] man, who drinketh iniquity like water?
Quanto mais abominável e fedorento é o homem que bebe a iniquidade como a água?
17 I will show thee, hear me; and that [which] I have seen, I will declare;
Escuta-me, mostrar-to-ei: e o que vi te contarei
18 Which wise men have told from their fathers, and have not hid [it]:
(O que os sábios anunciaram, ouvindo-o de seus pais, e o não ocultaram.
19 To whom alone the earth was given, and no stranger passed among them.
Aos quais somente se dera a terra, e nenhum estranho passou por meis deles):
20 The wicked man travaileth with pain all [his] days, and the number of years is hidden to the oppressor.
Todos os dias o ímpio se dá pena a si mesmo, e se reservam para o tirano um certo número de anos.
21 A dreadful sound [is] in his ears: in prosperity the destroyer shall come upon him.
O sonido dos horrores está nos seus ouvidos: até na paz lhe sobrevem o assolador.
22 He believeth not that he shall return out of darkness, and he is waited for by the sword.
Não crê que tornará das trevas, e que está esperado da espada.
23 He wandereth abroad for bread, [saying], Where [is it]? he knoweth that the day of darkness is ready at his hand.
Anda vagueando por pão, dizendo: Onde está? Bem sabe que já o dia das trevas lhe está preparado à mão.
24 Trouble and anguish shall make him afraid; they shall prevail against him, as a king ready to the battle.
Assombram-no a angústia e a tribulação; prevalecem contra ele, como o rei preparado para a peleja.
25 For he stretcheth out his hand against God, and strengtheneth himself against the Almighty.
Porque estende a sua mão contra Deus, e contra o Todo-poderoso se embravece.
26 He runneth upon him, [even] on [his] neck, upon the thick bosses of his bucklers:
Arremete contra ele com a dura cerviz, e contra os pontos grossos dos seus escudos.
27 Because he covereth his face with his fatness, and maketh collops of fat on [his] flanks.
Porquanto cobriu o seu rosto com a sua gordura, e criou enxundia nas ilhargas.
28 And he dwelleth in desolate cities, [and] in houses which no man inhabiteth, which are ready to become heaps.
E habitou em cidades assoladas, em casas em que ninguém morava, que estavam a ponto de fazer-se montões de ruínas.
29 He shall not be rich, neither shall his substance continue, neither shall he prolong the perfection of it upon the earth.
Não se enriquecerá, nem subsistirá a sua fazenda, nem se estenderão pela terra as suas possessões.
30 He shall not depart out of darkness; the flame shall dry up his branches, and by the breath of his mouth shall he go away.
Não escapará das trevas; a chama do fogo secará os seus renovos, e ao assopro da sua boca desaparecerá.
31 Let not him that is deceived trust in vanity: for vanity shall be his recompense.
Não confie pois na vaidade enganando-se a si mesmo, porque a vaidade será a sua recompensa.
32 It shall be accomplished before his time, and his branch shall not be green.
Antes do seu dia ela se lhe cumprirá; e o seu ramo não reverdecerá.
33 He shall shake off his unripe grape as the vine, and shall cast off his flower as the olive.
Sacudirá as suas uvas verdes, como as da vide, e deixará cair a sua flor como a da oliveira.
34 For the congregation of hypocrites [shall be] desolate, and fire shall consume the tabernacles of bribery.
Porque o ajuntamento dos hipócritas se fará estéril, e o fogo consumirá as tendas do suborno.
35 They conceive mischief, and bring forth vanity, and their belly prepareth deceit.
Concebem o trabalho, e parem a iniquidade, e o seu ventre prepara enganos.
