Job 15
1 Then answered Eliphaz the Temanite, and said,
Wtedy Elifaz z Temanu odpowiedział:
2 Should a wise men utter vain knowledge, and fill his belly with the east wind?
Czy mądry [człowiek] ma odpowiadać próżną wiedzą i napełniać swoje wnętrze wiatrem wschodnim?
3 Should he reason with unprofitable talk? or with speeches with which he can do no good?
Czy ma się spierać słowami bezużytecznymi i mową, która nie przynosi pożytku?
4 Yes, thou castest off fear, and restrainest prayer before God.
Ty nawet odrzucasz bojaźń i powstrzymujesz modlitwę przed Bogiem.
5 For thy mouth uttereth thy iniquity, and thou choosest the tongue of the crafty.
Twoje usta bowiem pokazują twą nieprawość, posługujesz się mową przebiegłych.
6 Thy own mouth condemneth thee, and not I: yes, thy own lips testify against thee.
Twoje usta cię potępiają, a nie ja; twoje wargi świadczą przeciwko tobie.
7 [Art] thou the first man [that] was born? or wast thou made before the hills?
Czy jesteś pierwszym człowiekiem, który się urodził? Czy zostałeś stworzony przed pagórkami?
8 Hast thou heard the secret of God? and dost thou restrain wisdom to thyself?
Czy słuchałeś tajemnic Boga? Czy tylko w tobie jest mądrość?
9 What knowest thou that we know not? [what] understandest thou, which [is] not in us?
Cóż ty wiesz, czego my nie wiemy? Cóż ty rozumiesz, czego my nie rozumiemy?
10 With us [are] both the gray headed and very aged men, much older than thy father.
Wśród nas są i sędziwi, i starcy, starsi od twego ojca.
11 [Are] the consolations of God small with thee? is there any secret thing with thee?
Czy lekceważysz pociechę Boga? Czy masz w sobie coś tajemnego?
12 Why doth thy heart carry thee away? and what do thy eyes wink at,
Czemu cię tak uniosło twoje serce? Czemu swoimi oczami tak mrugasz;
13 That thou turnest thy spirit against God, and lettest [such] words go out of thy mouth?
Że zwracasz przeciwko Bogu swego ducha i wypuszczasz ze swoich ust takie słowa?
14 What [is] man, that he should be clean? and [he who is] born of a woman, that he should be righteous?
Czym jest człowiek, aby miał być czysty, urodzony z kobiety, aby miał być sprawiedliwy?
15 Behold, he putteth no trust in his saints; yes, the heavens are not clean in his sight.
Oto nawet swoim świętym on nie ufa i niebiosa nie są czyste w jego oczach.
16 How much more abominable and filthy [is] man, who drinketh iniquity like water?
Tym bardziej obrzydły i nikczemny jest człowiek, [który] pije nieprawość jak wodę.
17 I will show thee, hear me; and that [which] I have seen, I will declare;
Wykażę ci, [tylko] mnie posłuchaj; opowiem ci, co widziałem;
18 Which wise men have told from their fathers, and have not hid [it]:
Co mądrzy powiedzieli, a nie zataili, [co mieli] od przodków swoich;
19 To whom alone the earth was given, and no stranger passed among them.
Im samym dana była ziemia i żaden obcy nie przeszedł wśród nich.
20 The wicked man travaileth with pain all [his] days, and the number of years is hidden to the oppressor.
Niegodziwy żyje w udręce przez wszystkie [swoje] dni i niewiele lat wyznaczono ciemięzcy.
21 A dreadful sound [is] in his ears: in prosperity the destroyer shall come upon him.
Głos przerażenia [brzmi] w jego uszach, że w czasie pokoju napadnie go niszczyciel.
22 He believeth not that he shall return out of darkness, and he is waited for by the sword.
Nie wierzy, że miałby wrócić z ciemności, obawia się [zewsząd] miecza.
23 He wandereth abroad for bread, [saying], Where [is it]? he knoweth that the day of darkness is ready at his hand.
Tuła się za chlebem, [pytając], gdzie [go znaleźć]. Wie, że dzień ciemności został dla niego przygotowany.
24 Trouble and anguish shall make him afraid; they shall prevail against him, as a king ready to the battle.
Przeraża go utrapienie i ucisk; wzmocnią się przeciwko niemu jak król gotowy do boju.
25 For he stretcheth out his hand against God, and strengtheneth himself against the Almighty.
Wyciągnął bowiem swą rękę przeciw Bogu, przeciwko Wszechmocnemu się umocnił.
26 He runneth upon him, [even] on [his] neck, upon the thick bosses of his bucklers:
Naciera na niego, na [jego] szyję, [która jest okryta] pod gęstymi grzbietami jego tarcz.
27 Because he covereth his face with his fatness, and maketh collops of fat on [his] flanks.
Swoją twarz kryje bowiem w tłuszczu, a jego tusza zaokrągliła się na lędźwiach.
28 And he dwelleth in desolate cities, [and] in houses which no man inhabiteth, which are ready to become heaps.
Mieszka w opustoszałych miastach i domach, w których nikt nie przebywa, które niebawem staną się ruiną.
29 He shall not be rich, neither shall his substance continue, neither shall he prolong the perfection of it upon the earth.
Nie wzbogaci się i nie przetrwa jego majątek ani jego doskonałość nie rozszerzy się na ziemi.
30 He shall not depart out of darkness; the flame shall dry up his branches, and by the breath of his mouth shall he go away.
Nie wyjdzie z ciemności, płomień ususzy jego latorośle, a zginie od tchnienia jego ust.
31 Let not him that is deceived trust in vanity: for vanity shall be his recompense.
Niech złudzony nie ufa marności, gdyż marność będzie jego zapłatą.
32 It shall be accomplished before his time, and his branch shall not be green.
Przed wypełnieniem jego dni nastąpi, a jego gałązka nie zakwitnie.
33 He shall shake off his unripe grape as the vine, and shall cast off his flower as the olive.
Jak winna latorośl utraci swoje niedojrzałe grona, jak oliwka zrzuci swój kwiat.
34 For the congregation of hypocrites [shall be] desolate, and fire shall consume the tabernacles of bribery.
Zgromadzenie obłudników będzie bowiem spustoszone, a ogień strawi namioty przekupstwa.
35 They conceive mischief, and bring forth vanity, and their belly prepareth deceit.
Poczęli krzywdę i urodzili nieprawość, a ich łono przygotowuje oszustwo.
