Jeremiah 5
1 Run ye to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in its broad places, if ye can find a man, if there is [any] that executeth judgment, that seeketh the truth; and I will pardon it.
Dae voltas ás ruas de Jerusalem, e vêde agora; e informae-vos, e buscae pelas suas praças, a ver se achaes alguem, ou se ha algum que faça juizo ou busque a verdade; e eu lhe perdoarei a ella.
2 And though they say, The LORD liveth; surely they swear falsely.
E ainda que digam: Vive o Senhor, comtudo falsamente juram.
3 O LORD, [are] not thy eyes upon the truth? thou hast stricken them, but they have not grieved; thou hast consumed them, [but] they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return.
Ah Senhor, porventura os teus olhos não attentam para a verdade? feriste-os, e não lhes doeu: consumiste-os, e não quizeram receber castigo: endureceram as suas faces mais do que uma rocha; não quizeram voltar.
4 Therefore I said, Surely these [are] poor; they are foolish: for they know not the way of the LORD, [nor] the judgment of their God.
Eu, porém, disse: Devéras pobres são estes: estão enlouquecidos; pois não sabem o caminho do Senhor, o juizo do seu Deus
5 I will go to the great men, and will speak to them; for they have known the way of the LORD, [and] the judgment of their God: but these have altogether broken the yoke, [and] burst the bonds.
Irei aos grandes, e fallarei com elles; porque elles sabem o caminho do Senhor, o juizo do seu Deus; porém estes juntamente quebrantaram o jugo, e romperam as ataduras.
6 Wherefore a lion from the forest shall slay them, [and] a wolf of the evenings shall spoil them, a leopard shall watch over their cities: every one that goeth out thence shall be torn in pieces: because their transgressions are many, [and] their backslidings are increased.
Por isso um leão do bosque os feriu, um lobo dos desertos os assolará; um leopardo vigia contra as suas cidades: qualquer que sair d'ellas será despedaçado; porque as suas transgressões se multiplicaram, multiplicaram-se as suas apostasias.
7 How shall I pardon thee for this? thy children have forsaken me, and sworn by [them that are] no gods: when I had fed them to the full, then they committed adultery, and assembled themselves by troops in the harlots' houses.
Como, vendo isto, te perdoaria? teus filhos me deixam a mim e juram pelos que não são deuses: quando os fartei, então adulteraram, e em casa de meretriz se ajuntaram em tropas.
8 They were [as] fed horses in the morning: every one neighed after his neighbor's wife.
Como cavallos bem fartos, levantam-se pela manhã, rinchando cada um á mulher do seu companheiro.
9 Shall I not visit for these [things]? saith the LORD: and shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?
Porventura não faria visitação por estas coisas, diz o Senhor, ou não se vingaria a minha alma de uma nação como esta?
10 Go ye up upon her walls, and destroy; but make not a full end: take away her battlements; for they [are] not the LORD'S.
Subi aos seus muros, e destrui-os (porém não façaes uma destruição final); tirae as suas ameias; porque não são do Senhor
11 For the house of Israel and the house of Judah have dealt very treacherously against me, saith the LORD.
Porque aleivosissimamente se houveram contra mim a casa de Israel e a casa de Judah, diz o Senhor.
12 They have belied the LORD, and said, [It is] not he; neither shall evil come upon us; neither shall we see sword nor famine:
Negam ao Senhor, e dizem: Não é Elle: e; Nem nos sobrevirá mal, nem veremos espada nem fome.
13 And the prophets shall become wind, and the word [is] not in them: thus shall it be done to them.
E até os prophetas pararão em vento, porque a palavra não está com elles: assim lhes succederá a elles mesmos.
14 Wherefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, Because ye speak this word, Behold, I will make my words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them.
Portanto assim diz o Senhor, o Deus dos Exercitos: Porquanto fallaste tal palavra, eis que converterei as minhas palavras na tua bocca em fogo, e a este povo em lenha, e os consumirá.
15 Lo, I will bring a nation upon you from far, O house of Israel, saith the LORD: it [is] a mighty nation, it [is] an ancient nation, a nation whose language thou knowest not, neither understandest what they say.
Eis que trarei sobre vós uma nação de longe, ó casa de Israel, diz o Senhor: é uma nação robusta, é uma nação antiquissima, uma nação cuja lingua ignorarás, e não entenderás o que ella fallar.
16 Their quiver [is] as an open sepulcher, they [are] all mighty men.
A sua aljava é como uma sepultura aberta: todos elles são valentes.
17 And they shall eat up thy harvest, and thy bread, [which] thy sons and thy daughters should eat: they shall eat up thy flocks and thy herds: they shall eat up thy vines and thy fig-trees: they shall impoverish with the sword thy fortified cities, in which thou hast trusted.
E comerão a tua sega e o teu pão, que haviam de comer teus filhos e tuas filhas; comerão as tuas ovelhas e as tuas vaccas; comerão a tua vide e a tua figueira: as tuas cidades fortes, em que confiavas, empobrecerão á espada.
18 Nevertheless in those days, saith the LORD, I will not make a full end with you.
Comtudo, ainda n'aquelles dias, diz o Senhor, não farei de vós uma destruição final.
19 And it shall come to pass, when ye shall say, Why doeth the LORD our God all these [things] to us? then shalt thou answer them, As ye have forsaken me, and served strange gods in your land, so shall ye serve strangers in a land [that is] not yours.
E succederá que, quando disserdes: Porque nos fez o Senhor nosso Deus todas estas coisas? então lhes dirás: Como vós me deixastes, e servistes a deuses estranhos na vossa terra, assim servireis a estrangeiros, em terra que não é vossa
20 Declare this in the house of Jacob, and publish it in Judah, saying,
Annunciae isto na casa de Jacob, e fazei-o ouvir em Judah, dizendo:
21 Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding; who have eyes, and see not; who have ears, and hear not:
Ouvi agora isto, ó povo louco, e sem coração, que tendes olhos e não vêdes, que tendes ouvidos e não ouvis
22 Fear ye not me? saith the LORD: will ye not tremble at my presence, who have placed the sand [for] the bound of the sea by a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass it: and though its waves toss themselves, yet can they not prevail; though they roar, yet can they not pass over it?
Porventura me não temereis a mim? diz o Senhor; não temereis diante de mim, que puz a areia por limite ao mar, por ordenança eterna, a qual não traspassará? ainda que se levantem as suas ondas, comtudo não prevalecerão; ainda que bramam, comtudo não a traspassarão.
23 But this people have a revolting and a rebellious heart; they have revolted and gone.
Porém este povo é de coração rebelde e pertinaz: já se rebellaram e se retiram.
24 Neither say they in their heart, Let us now fear the LORD our God, that giveth rain, both the former and the latter, in its season: he reserveth to us the appointed weeks of harvest.
E não dizem no seu coração: Temamos agora ao Senhor nosso Deus, que dá chuva, a temporã e a tardia, ao seu tempo; e as semanas determinadas da sega nos conserva.
25 Your iniquities have turned away these [things], and your sins have withheld good [things] from you.
As vossas iniquidades desviam estas coisas, e os vossos peccados apartam de vós o bem.
26 For among my people are found wicked [men]: they lay wait, as he that setteth snares; they set a trap, they catch men.
Porque impios se acham entre o meu povo: cada um anda espiando, como se acaçapam os passarinheiros; armam laços perniciosos, com que prendem os homens.
27 As a cage is full of birds, so [are] their houses full of deceit: therefore they have become great, and have grown rich.
Como a gaiola está cheia de passaros, assim estão cheias as suas casas de engano; por isso se engrandeceram, e enriqueceram.
28 They have become fat, they shine: yes, they surpass the deeds of the wicked: they judge not the cause, the cause of the fatherless, yet they prosper; and the right of the needy do they not judge.
Engordam-se, alisam-se, e sobre-pujam até os feitos dos malignos; não julgam a causa do orphão; todavia prosperam: nem julgam o direito dos necessitados.
29 Shall I not visit for these [things]? saith the LORD: shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this?
Porventura sobre estas coisas não faria visitação? diz o Senhor; não se vingaria a minha alma d'uma nação como esta?
30 A wonderful and horrible thing is committed in the land;
Coisa espantosa e horrenda se anda fazendo na terra.
31 The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love [to have it] so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?
Os prophetas prophetizam falsamente, e os sacerdotes dominam pelas mãos d'elles, e o meu povo assim o deseja: mas que fareis ao fim d'isto?
