Jeremiah 3
1 They say, If a man shall put away his wife, and she shall go from him, and become another man's, shall he return to her again? shall not that land be greatly polluted? but thou hast played the harlot with many lovers; yet return again to me, saith the LORD.
Si un homme répudie sa femme, et si elle s'éloigne de lui, et se donne à un autre, est-ce qu'elle reviendra à son premier époux? Cette femme ne sera-t- elle pas souillée? Et toi, tu t'es prostituée à un grand nombre de pâtres, et tu es revenue à moi, dit le Seigneur.
2 Lift up thy eyes to the high places, and see where thou hast not been lain with. In the ways hast thou sat for them, as the Arabian in the wilderness; and thou hast polluted the land with thy acts of lewdness, and with thy wickedness.
Lève les yeux droit devant toi, et vois où tu n'es pas souillée. Tu t'es assise dans les rues mêmes, comme une corneille solitaire, et tu as souillé la terre de tes prostitutions et de tes méchancetés.
3 Therefore the showers have been withheld, and there hath been no latter rain? and thou hadst a harlot's forehead, thou refusedst to be ashamed.
Et tu as eu quantité de pâtres qui ont été pour toi des pierres d'achoppement; tu as eu le regard d'une prostituée; tu as perdu toute pudeur envers tous.
4 Wilt thou not from this time cry to me, My father, thou [art] the guide of my youth?
Ne m'as-tu pas invoqué comme un asile, comme un père, comme le gardien de ta virginité, disant:
5 Will he retain [his anger] for ever? will he keep [it] to the end? Behold, thou hast spoken and done evil things as thou couldst.
Est-ce que votre colère subsistera dans tous les siècles? est-elle réservée à triompher de moi? Voilà comme tu as parlé, après avoir fait ces mauvaises œuvres, et tu l'as osé.
6 The LORD said also to me in the days of Josiah the king, Hast thou seen [that] which backsliding Israel hath done? she hath gone up upon every high mountain, and under every green tree, and there hath played the harlot.
Et le Seigneur m'a dit, dans les jours du roi Josias: As-tu vu ce que m'a fait la maison d'Israël? Ils sont allés sur tous les hauts lieux, et sous l'ombrage de tous les arbres, et là ils se sont prostitués.
7 And I said after she had done all these [things], Turn thou to me. But she returned not. And her treacherous sister Judah saw [it].
Et je lui ai dit, après toutes ses prostitutions: Reviens à moi; et elle n'est pas revenue, et l'infidèle Juda a vu l'infidélité d'Israël. Et moi j'ai vu,
8 And I saw, when for all the causes by which backsliding Israel committed adultery I had put her away, and given her a bill of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah feared not, but went and played the harlot also.
Après qu'Israël eut été convaincu de tous ses péchés et de ses adultères, après que je l'eus répudié, et remis dans ses mains un acte de répudiation, j'ai vu que l'infidèle maison de Juda n'a pas eu peur de moi, et qu'elle est partie, et qu'elle s'est prostituée elle-même.
9 And it came to pass through the lightness of her lewdness, that she defiled the land, and committed adultery with stones and with stocks.
Elle a regardé sa prostitution comme rien; elle a commis ses adultères avec la pierre et le bois.
10 And yet for all this her treacherous sister Judah hath not turned to me with her whole heart, but feignedly, saith the LORD.
Et en toutes ces œuvres, l'infidèle maison de Juda ne s'est jamais non plus convertie à moi de tout son cœur; mais c'était encore un mensonge.
11 And the LORD said to me, The backsliding Israel hath justified herself more than treacherous Judah.
Et le Seigneur m'a dit: Israël a justifié son âme plus que l'infidèle maison de Juda.
12 Go and proclaim these words towards the north, and say, Return, thou backsliding Israel, saith the LORD; [and] I will not cause my anger to fall upon you: for I [am] merciful, saith the LORD, [and] I will not keep [anger] for ever.
Pars et lis ces paroles, du côté de l'aquilon, et dis: Maison d'Israël, reviens à moi, dit le Seigneur, et je ne tournerai plus contre vous ma face, parce que je suis miséricordieux, dit le Seigneur, et je ne serai pas toujours irrité contre vous.
13 Only acknowledge thy iniquity, that thou hast transgressed against the LORD thy God, and hast scattered thy ways to the strangers under every green tree, and ye have not obeyed my voice, saith the LORD.
Seulement, reconnais ton iniquité; car tu as péché contre le Seigneur ton Dieu, et tu as dispersé tes voies chez les étrangers, sous chaque arbre touffu, et tu n'as point obéi à ma parole, dit le Seigneur.
14 Turn, O backsliding children, saith the LORD; for I am married to you: and I will take you one of a city, and two of a family, and I will bring you to Zion:
Convertissez-vous, fils rebelles, dit le Seigneur, parce que je serai votre maître, et je vous prendrai même un par ville, deux par tribu, et je vous introduirai dans Sion.
15 And I will give you pastors according to my heart, who shall feed you with knowledge and understanding.
Et je vous donnerai des pasteurs selon mon cœur; et ils vous mèneront paître dans les pâturages de la sagesse.
16 And it shall come to pass, when ye shall be multiplied and increased in the land, in those days, saith the LORD, they shall say no more, The ark of the covenant of the LORD: neither shall it come to mind: neither shall they remember it; neither shall they visit [it]; neither shall [that] be done any more.
Et voici ce qui arrivera: lorsque vous vous serez multipliés, et que vous aurez grandi sur la terre, dit le Seigneur, en ces jours-là, on ne dira plus: Voici l'arche de l'alliance du Saint d'Israël. Elle n'aura plus de place dans les cœurs, elle n'aura plus de nom, on ne la visitera plus, on ne construira plus rien de pareil.
17 At that time they shall call Jerusalem the throne of the LORD; and all the nations shall be gathered to it, to the name of the LORD, to Jerusalem; neither shall they walk any more after the imagination of their evil heart.
En ces jours et en ce temps-là, on appellera Jérusalem le trône de Dieu, et tous les gentils y seront rassemblés, et ils ne courront plus après les désirs de leurs cœurs pervers.
18 In those days the house of Judah shall walk with the house of Israel, and they shall come together from the land of the north to the land that I have given for an inheritance to your fathers.
En ces jours-là, la maison de Juda reviendra avec la maison d'Israël; ensemble elles reviendront de la terre de l'aquilon et de toutes les contrées, en la terre que j'ai donnée à leurs pères pour héritage.
19 But I said, How shall I put thee among the children, and give thee a pleasant land, a goodly heritage of the hosts of nations? and I said, Thou shalt call me, My father; and shalt not turn away from me.
Et moi j'ai dit: Seigneur, qu'il soit fait ainsi; car vous avez dit: Je te mettrai au nombre de mes enfants, je te donnerai une terre choisie, l'héritage du Dieu tout-puissant des nations; et de plus, vous m'appellerez votre père, et vous ne vous détournerez plus de moi.
20 Surely [as] a wife treacherously departeth from her husband, so have ye dealt treacherously with me, O house of Israel, saith the LORD.
Cependant, comme une femme est infidèle à son époux, de même la maison d'Israël m'a été infidèle, dit le Seigneur.
21 A voice was heard upon the high places, weeping [and] supplications of the children of Israel: for they have perverted their way, [and] they have forgotten the LORD their God.
On a entendu sortir de leurs lèvres une voix et des pleurs, et la prière des enfants d'Israël; parce qu'ils avaient failli dans leurs voies, et oublié leur Dieu saint.
22 Return, ye backsliding children, [and] I will heal your backslidings. Behold, we come to thee; for thou [art] the LORD our God.
Convertissez-vous, fils rebelles, et je guérirai vos meurtrissures. Dites: Voilà que nous serons vos serviteurs; car vous êtes le Seigneur notre Dieu!
23 Truly in vain [is salvation hoped for] from the hills, [and from] the multitude of mountains: truly in the LORD our God [is] the salvation of Israel.
En vérité les collines et la puissance des montagnes n'étaient que mensonge. Mais c'est du Seigneur notre Dieu que vient le salut d'Israël.
24 For shame hath devoured the labor of our fathers from our youth; their flocks and their herds, their sons and their daughters.
Dès notre jeunesse, l'opprobre de nos pères a consumé leurs travaux, leurs brebis et leurs bœufs, leurs fils et leurs filles.
25 We lie down in our shame, and our confusion covereth us: for we have sinned against the LORD our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even to this day, and have not obeyed the voice of the LORD our God.
Nous nous sommes endormis dans notre honte, notre déshonneur nous a enveloppés; car nos pères et nous avons péché devant notre Dieu, depuis notre adolescence jusqu'à ce jour. Et nous n'avons point obéi à la parole du Seigneur notre Dieu.
