Jeremiah 10
1 Hear ye the word which the LORD speaketh to you, O house of Israel:
CASA d'Israele, ascoltate la parola che il Signore vi ha pronunziata.
2 Thus saith the LORD, Learn not the way of the heathen, and be not dismayed at the signs of heaven; for the heathen are dismayed at them.
Così ha detto il Signore: Non imparate [a seguitare] i costumi delle genti, e non abbiate paura de' segni del cielo, perchè le genti ne hanno paura.
3 For the customs of the people [are] vain: for [one] cutteth a tree out of the forest, the work of the hands of the workman, with the ax.
Perciocchè gli statuti de' popoli son vanità; conciossiachè si tagli un albero del bosco, [per farne] un lavoro di mani d'artefice con l'ascia.
4 They deck it with silver and with gold; they fasten it with nails and with hammers, that it may not move.
Quello si adorna con oro, e con argento; e si fa star saldo con chiodi, e con martelli, acciocchè non sia mosso.
5 They [are] upright as the palm tree, but speak not: they must needs be borne, because they cannot go. Be not afraid of them; for they cannot do evil, neither also [is it] in them to do good.
Son tratti diritti, a guisa di palma, e non parlano; convien portarli attorno, perchè non possono camminare; non temiate di loro; perciocchè non possono far danno alcuno, ed altresì in lor potere non [è] di fare alcun bene.
6 Forasmuch as [there is] none like to thee, O LORD; thou [art] great, and thy name [is] great in might.
Non [vi è] niuno pari a te, o Signore; tu sei grande, ed il tuo Nome [è] grande in forza.
7 Who would not fear thee, O King of nations? for to thee doth it appertain: forasmuch as among all the wise [men] of the nations, and in all their kingdoms, [there is] none like to thee.
Chi non ti' temerebbe, o Re delle genti? conciossiachè [questa] ti si convenga; perciocchè, fra tutti i savi delle genti, e in tutti i regni loro, non [vi] è alcun pari a te.
8 But they are altogether brutish and foolish: the stock [is] a doctrine of vanities.
E tutti insieme sono insensati, e pazzi; il legno è un ammaestramento di vanità.
9 Silver spread into plates is brought from Tarshish, and gold from Uphaz, the work of the workman, and of the hands of the founder: blue and purple [is] their clothing: they [are] all the work of skillful [men].
L'argento, che si distende col martello, è addotto di Tarsis, e l'oro di Ufaz; [sono] opera di fabbro, e [lavorio di] mani di orafo; il lor vestimento [è] giacinto e porpora; essi tutti [sono] lavoro d' [uomini] industriosi.
10 But the LORD [is] the true God, he [is] the living God, and an everlasting king: at his wrath the earth shall tremble, and the nations shall not be able to abide his indignation.
Ma il Signore [è] il vero Dio, egli [è] l'Iddio vivente, e il Re eterno; la terra trema per la sua ira, e le genti non possono sostenere il suo cruccio.
11 Thus shall ye say to them, The gods that have not made the heavens and the earth, [even] they shall perish from the earth, and from under these heavens.
Così direte loro: Gl'Iddii, che non hanno fatto il cielo, e la terra, periscano d'in su la terra, e di sotto al cielo.
12 He hath made the earth by his power, he hath established the world by his wisdom, and hath stretched out the heavens by his discretion.
Colui, che ha fatta la terra con la sua potenza, che ha stabilito il mondo con la sua sapienza, ed ha distesi i cieli col suo intendimento;
13 When he uttereth his voice, [there is] a multitude of waters in the heavens, and he causeth the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth; he maketh lightnings with rain, and bringeth forth the wind out of his treasures.
tosto ch'egli dà fuori la [sua] voce, [vi è] un romor d'acque nel cielo; egli fa salir vapori dalle estremità della terra, [e] fa i lampi per la pioggia, e trae il vento fuor de' suoi tesori.
14 Every man is brutish in [his] knowledge: every founder is confounded by the graven image: for his molten image [is] falsehood, and [there is] no breath in them.
Ogni uomo [è] insensato per scienza; ogni orafo [è] renduto infame per le sculture; perciocchè le sue statue di getto [sono] una falsità, e non [vi è] alcuno spirito in loro.
15 They [are] vanity, [and] the work of errors: in the time of their visitation they shall perish.
Sono vanità, lavoro d'inganni; periranno nel tempo della lor visitazione.
16 The portion of Jacob [is] not like them: for he [is] the former of all [things]; and Israel [is] the rod of his inheritance: The LORD of hosts [is] his name.
[Colui che è] la parte di Giacobbe non [è] come queste cose; perciocchè egli [è] il Formator d'ogni cosa, ed Israele [è] la tribù della sua eredità; Il suo Nome [è: ] Il Signor degli eserciti.
17 Gather up thy wares out of the land, O inhabitant of the fortress.
O ABITATRICE della fortezza, raccogli la tua mercatanzia, [per portarla] fuor del paese.
18 For thus saith the LORD; Behold, I will sling out the inhabitants of the land at this once, and will distress them that they may find [it so].
Perciocchè, così ha detto il Signore: Ecco, questa volta gitterò via, come con una frombola, gli abitanti del paese, e li metterò in distretta, acciocchè trovino ciò che han meritato.
19 Woe is me for my hurt! my wound is grievous: but I said, Truly this [is] a grief, and I must bear it.
Ahi lasso me! [dirà il paese], per cagione del mio fiaccamento! la mia piaga è dolorosa; e pure io avea detto: Questa [è] una doglia, che ben potrò sofferire.
20 My tabernacle is laid waste, and all my cords are broken: my children are gone from me, and they [are] not: [there is] none to stretch forth my tent any more, and to set up my curtains.
Le mie tende son guaste, e tutte le mie corde son rotte; i miei figliuoli sono usciti fuor di me, e non sono [più]; non [vi è] più alcuno che tenda il mio padiglione, nè che rizzi i miei teli.
21 For the pastors have become brutish, and have not sought the LORD: therefore they shall not prosper, and all their flocks shall be scattered.
Perciocchè i pastori son divenuti insensati, e non hanno ricercato il Signore; perciò non son prosperati, e tutte le lor mandre sono state dissipate.
22 Behold, the sound of the noise is come, and a great commotion from the north country, to make the cities of Judah desolate, [and] a den of dragons.
Ecco, una voce di grido viene, con gran commovimento, dal paese di Settentrione, per ridurre le città di Giuda in desolazione, in ricetti di sciacalli.
23 O LORD, I know that the way of man [is] not in himself: [it is] not in man that walketh to direct his steps.
O Signore, io conosco che la via dell'uomo non [è] in suo potere; e che non [è] in poter dell'uomo che cammina di addirizzare i suoi passi.
24 O LORD, correct me, but with judgment; not in thy anger, lest thou bring me to nothing.
O Signore, castigami, ma pur moderatamente; non nell'ira tua, che talora tu non mi faccia venir meno.
25 Pour out thy fury upon the heathen that know thee not, and upon the families that call not on thy name: for they have eaten up Jacob, and devoured him, and consumed him, and have made his habitation desolate.
Spandi la tua ira sopra le genti che non ti conoscono, e sopra le nazioni che non invocano il tuo Nome; perciocchè han divorato Giacobbe; anzi l'han divorato, e consumato, ed hanno desolata la sua stanza.
