James 4
1 From whence [come] wars and fightings among you? [come they] not hence, [even] from your lusts that war in your members?
¿De dónde las guerras, de dónde los pleitos entre vosotros? ¿No es de eso, de vuestras pasiones que luchan en vuestros miembros?
2 Ye lust and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not.
Deseáis y no tenéis; matáis y codiciáis, y sin embargo no podéis alcanzar; peleáis y hacéis guerra. Es que no tenéis porque no pedís.
3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume [it] upon your lusts.
Pedís y no recibís, porque pedís mal, con la intención de saciar vuestras pasiones.
4 Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God.
Adúlteros, ¿no sabéis que la amistad con el mundo es enemistad contra Dios? Quien, pues, quiere ser amigo del mundo, se constituye enemigo de Dios.
5 Do ye think that the scripture saith in vain, The spirit that dwelleth in us lusteth to envy?
¿O pensáis que en vano dice la Escritura: “El Espíritu que ( Dios ) hizo morar en nosotros ama con celos?”
6 But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble.
Mayor gracia nos otorga ( con ello ). Por eso dice: “A los soberbios resiste Dios, mas a los humildes da gracia”.
7 Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.
Someteos, pues, a Dios; al diablo resistidle, y huirá de vosotros.
8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse [your] hands, [ye] sinners, and purify [your] hearts, [ye] double-minded.
Acercaos vosotros a Dios y Él se acercará a vosotros. Limpiaos las manos, pecadores; purificad vuestros corazones, hipócritas.
9 Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and [your] joy to heaviness.
Sentid vuestra miseria, lamentaos y llorad. Truéquese vuestra risa en llanto y vuestro regocijo en pesadumbre.
10 Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he will lift you up.
Abajaos delante del Señor y Él os levantará.
11 Speak not evil one of another, brethren. He that speaketh evil of [his] brother, and judgeth his brother, speaketh evil of the law, and judgeth the law: but if thou judgest the law, thou art not a doer of the law, but a judge.
No habléis mal, hermanos, unos de otros. El que murmura de su hermano o juzga a su hermano, de la Ley murmura y juzga a la Ley. Y si tú juzgas a la Ley, no eres cumplidor de la Ley, sino que te eriges en juez.
12 There is one lawgiver, who is able to save, and to destroy: who art thou that judgest another?
Uno solo es el Legislador y Juez: el que puede salvar y destruir. Tú, en cambio, ¿quién eres que juzgas al prójimo?
13 Come now, ye that say, To-day or to-morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy, and sell, and get gain:
Ahora a vosotros los que decís: “Hoy o mañana iremos a tal ciudad y pasaremos allí un año y negociaremos y haremos ganancias”,
14 Whereas ye know not what [will be] on the morrow: For what [is] your life? It is even a vapor, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
¡vosotros que no sabéis ni lo que sucederá mañana! Pues ¿qué es vuestra vida? Sois humo que aparece por un momento y luego se disipa.
15 Instead of that ye [ought] to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.
Deberíais en cambio decir: “Si el Señor quiere y vivimos, haremos esto o aquello”.
16 But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.
Mas vosotros os complacéis en vuestras jactancias. Maligna es toda complacencia de tal género.
17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth [it] not, to him it is sin.
Pues, a quien no hace el bien, sabiendo hacerlo, se le imputa pecado.
