< Isaiah 8 >

1 Moreover, the LORD said to me, Take thee a great roll, and write in it with a man's pen concerning Maher-shalal-hash-baz.
Pea naʻe toe pehē ʻe Sihova kiate au, “Toʻo kiate koe ha takainga lahi, pea tohi ʻi ai ʻaki ha peni ʻae tangata ʻae meʻa ʻoku kau kia Maha-sala-hase-pase.
2 And I took to me faithful witnesses to record, Uriah the priest, and Zechariah the son of Jeberechiah.
Pea naʻaku toʻo kiate au ʻae kau fakamoʻoni angatonu ke tohi, ko ʻUlia ko e taulaʻeiki, mo Sakalia ko e foha ʻo Sepelikaia.”
3 And I went to the prophetess; and she conceived, and bore a son. Then said the LORD to me, Call his name Maher-shalal-hash-baz.
4 For before the child shall have knowledge to cry, My father, and my mother, the riches of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria shall be taken away before the king of Assyria.
Koeʻuhi ʻi he kei vale ʻae tamasiʻi ke lea, ‘Ko ʻeku tamai,’ mo ‘ʻeku faʻē,’ ʻe ʻave ʻi he ʻao ʻoe tuʻi ʻo ʻAsilia ʻae koloa ʻo Tamasikusi mo e vete taua ʻo Samēlia.
5 The LORD spoke also to me again, saying,
Pea naʻe toe folofola foki ʻa Sihova kiate au, ʻo pehē,
6 Forasmuch as this people refuseth the waters of Shiloah that flow gently, and rejoice in Rezin and Remaliah's son;
“Ko e meʻa ʻi he liʻaki ʻe he kakai ni ʻae ngaahi vai ʻo Siloa ʻoku tafetafemālie, pea ʻoku nau fiefia ʻia Lesini mo e foha ʻo Lemalia;
7 Now therefore, behold, the LORD bringeth up upon them the waters of the river, strong and many, [even] the king of Assyria, and all his glory: and he shall come up over all its channels, and go over all its banks:
Ko ia foki, vakai, ʻoku ʻomi ʻe Sihova kiate kinautolu ʻae ngaahi vai ʻoe vaitafe, ʻoku mālohi pea lahi, ʻio, ʻae tuʻi ʻo ʻAsilia mo hono mālohi kotoa pē: pea te ne ʻalu hake ki hono tafeʻanga vai kotoa pē, pea ʻe lōmakiʻi ʻae ngaahi kauvai kotoa pē:
8 And he shall pass through Judah; he shall overflow and go over, he shall reach [even] to the neck; and the extension of his wings shall fill the breadth of thy land, O Immanuel.
9 Associate yourselves, O ye people, and ye shall be broken in pieces; and give ear, all ye of far countries: gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces; gird yourselves, and ye shall be broken in pieces.
Mou kau fakataha, ʻakimoutolu ʻae kakai, pea ʻe laiki ʻakimoutolu; pea fakafanongo, ʻakimoutolu ʻae ngaahi fonua kotoa pē ʻoku mamaʻo: nonoʻo ʻakimoutolu, pea ʻe momosi ʻakimoutolu; nonoʻo ʻakimoutolu, pea ʻe liʻaki ʻakimoutolu.
10 Take counsel together, and it shall come to naught; speak the word, and it shall not stand: for God [is] with us.
Mou fakakaukau fakataha, ka e hoko ko e meʻa noa pe ia; mou alea, ka e ʻikai tuʻumaʻu ia: he ʻoku ʻiate kimautolu ʻae ʻOtua.
11 For the LORD spoke thus to me with a strong hand, and instructed me that I should not walk in the way of this people, saying,
He naʻe folofola pehē ʻa Sihova kiate au ʻi he nima mālohi, mo ne akonakiʻi au ke ʻoua naʻaku ʻalu ʻi he hala ʻoe kakai ni, ʻo ne pehē,
12 Say ye not, A confederacy, to all [them to] whom this people shall say, A confederacy; neither fear ye their fear, nor be afraid.
‌ʻOua naʻa mou pehē, “Ko e tau, kiate kinautolu kotoa pē ʻoku pehē ki ai ʻae kakai ni, ko e tau, pea ʻoua ʻe manavahē ki heʻenau fakamanavahēʻi, pea ʻoua naʻa mou ilifia.
13 Sanctify the LORD of hosts himself; and [let] him [be] your fear, and [let] him [be] your dread.
Mou fakatapui pe ʻa Sihova ʻoe ngaahi kautau; pea tuku ke hoko ia ko hoʻomou manavahēʻanga, pea mou ilifia ʻiate ia.
14 And he will be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offense to both the houses of Israel, for a trap and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.
Pea ʻe hoko ia ko e hūfanga malu; ka ko e maka tūkiaʻanga, pea ko e maka fakaʻita ki he fale fakatouʻosi ʻo ʻIsileli, ko e tauhele mo e heleanga ki he kakai ʻo Selūsalema.
15 And many among them shall stumble, and fall, and be broken, and be insnared, and be taken.
Pea ko e tokolahi ʻiate kinautolu te nau tohumuhumu, pea hinga, pea laiki, mo tauhele, pea touʻia ʻakinautolu.
16 Bind up the testimony, seal the law among my disciples.
Fakamaʻopoʻopo ʻae fakamoʻoni, pulusi ʻae fono maʻa ʻeku kau ākonga.
17 And I will wait upon the LORD, that hideth his face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for him.
Pea te u tatali kia Sihova, ʻaia ʻoku fufū hono fofonga mei he fale ʻo Sēkope, pea te u ʻamanaki kiate ia.
18 Behold, I and the children whom the LORD hath given me [are] for signs and for wonders in Israel from the LORD of hosts, who dwelleth in mount Zion.
Vakai, ko au mo e fānau kuo foaki ʻe Sihova kiate au, kuo mau hoko ko e ngaahi fakaʻilonga pea mo e ngaahi meʻa fakaofo ʻi ʻIsileli, meia Sihova ʻoe ngaahi kautau, ʻaia ʻoku ʻafio ʻi he moʻunga ko Saione.”
19 And when they shall say to you, Seek to them that have familiar spirits, and to wizards that peep, and that mutter: should not a people seek to their God? for the living to the dead?
Pea ʻoka nau ka pehē mai kiate kimoutolu, “Kumi kiate kinautolu ʻoku ai ʻae ngaahi laumālie kovi, pea ki he ngaahi kikite ʻoku mapu mo femuhumuhuʻi: ʻikai ʻoku totonu ke kumi ʻe he kakai ki honau ʻOtua? ʻOku totonu koā ʻenau siʻaki ʻae moʻui kae kumi ki he mate?
20 To the law and to the testimony: if they speak not according to this word, [it is] because [there is] no light in them.
Kumi ki he fono pea ki he fakamoʻoni: kapau ʻe ʻikai te nau lea ʻo hangē ko e folofola ni, ʻoku pehē koeʻuhi ʻoku ʻikai ha maama ʻiate kinautolu.
21 And they shall pass through it, distressed and hungry: and it shall come to pass, that when they shall be hungry, they shall fret themselves, and curse their king and their God, and look upward.
Pea te nau ʻalu ʻi ai, ʻi he mamahi mo e fiekaia, pea ʻe hoko ʻo pehē, ʻi heʻenau fiekaia, te nau tangi, pea kapeʻi honau tuʻi mo honau ʻOtua, pea sio ki ʻolunga.
22 And they shall look to the earth; and behold trouble and darkness, dimness of anguish; and [they shall be] driven to darkness.
Pea te nau sio ki he kelekele; pea vakai ko e mamahi, mo e fakapoʻuli, mo e ninimo, mo e ongosia; pea ʻe kapusi ʻakinautolu ki he fakapoʻuli.”
