< Isaiah 59 >
1 Behold, the LORD'S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear:
Vakai, ʻoku ʻikai fakanounou ʻae nima ʻo Sihova, ke ne taʻefaʻafakamoʻui; pea ʻoku ʻikai mamafa hono fofonga, ke ne taʻefaʻaongoʻi.
2 But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid [his] face from you, that he will not hear.
Ka ko hoʻomou ngaahi hia kuo fakamavae ʻakimoutolu mo homou ʻOtua, pea ʻi hoʻomou angahala kuo ne fakafufū hono fofonga meiate kimoutolu, koeʻuhi ʻe ʻikai te ne fanongo,
3 For your hands are defiled with blood, and your fingers with iniquity; your lips have spoken lies, your tongue hath uttered perverseness.
He kuo fakaʻuli homou nima ʻaki ʻae toto, mo homou louhiʻi nima ʻaki ʻae fai kovi; kuo lea loi homou loungutu, kuo puʻaki ʻe homou ʻelelo ʻae kovi.
4 None calleth for justice, nor [any] pleadeth for truth: they trust in vanity, and speak lies; they conceive mischief, and bring forth iniquity.
ʻOku ʻikai ui ha taha ki he angatonu, pe lea ha niʻihi ki he moʻoni, ʻoku nau faʻaki ki he vaʻinga, pea lea loi; ʻoku nau tuituʻia ʻi he fai kovi, pea nau fanauʻi ʻae angahala.
5 They hatch cockatrice eggs, and weave the spider's web: he that eateth of their eggs dieth, and that which is crushed breaketh out into a viper.
ʻOku nau fōfoaʻi ʻae fua ʻoe ngata fekai, pea fi ʻae matamata kupenga ʻoe hina: ko ia ʻoku ne kai honau fua ʻe mate, pea ko ia kuo laiki ʻoku haʻu mei ai ʻae ngata fekai.
6 Their webs shall not become garments, neither shall they cover themselves with their works: their works [are] works of iniquity, and the act of violence [is] in their hands.
ʻE ʻikai hoko ko e ngaahi kofu ʻenau matamata kupenga, pea ʻe ʻikai te nau ʻufiʻufi ʻakinautolu ʻaki ʻenau ngaahi ngāue: he ko ʻenau ngaahi ngāue ko e ngāue ʻae angahala, pea ʻoku ʻi honau nima ʻae ngāue fakamālohi.
7 Their feet run to evil, and they make haste to shed innocent blood: their thoughts [are] thoughts of iniquity; wasting and destruction [are] in their paths.
ʻOku lele honau vaʻe ki he kovi, pea ʻoku nau fai toʻotoʻo ke lilingi ʻae toto ʻoe taʻehalaia: ko ʻenau ngaahi mahalo ko e ngaahi mahalo ʻoe angahala; ʻoku ʻi honau ngaahi hala ʻae maumau mo e fakaʻauha.
8 The way of peace they know not; and [there is] no judgment in their goings: they have made them crooked paths: whoever goeth therein shall not know peace.
Ko e hala ʻoe melino ʻoku ʻikai te nau ʻiloʻi; pea ʻoku ʻikai ha angatonu ʻi honau ngaahi ʻaluʻanga: kuo nau ngaohi kiate kinautolu ʻae ngaahi hala pikopiko: ko ia ʻe ʻalu ai ʻe ʻikai te ne ʻilo ha fiemālie.
9 Therefore is judgment far from us, neither doth justice overtake us: we wait for light, but behold obscurity; for brightness, [but] we walk in darkness.
“Ko ia ʻoku mamaʻo ai meiate kitautolu ʻae fakamaau, pea ʻoku ʻikai hoko mai ʻae angatonu: ʻoku tau tatali ki he maama, kae vakai ko e fakapoʻuli; ki he maama lahi, ka ʻoku tau ʻeveʻeva ʻi he poʻuli.
10 We grope for the wall like the blind, and we grope as if [we had] no eyes: we stumble at noon day as in the night; [we are] in desolate places as dead [men].
ʻOku tau tautaufā ki he ʻā ʻo hangē ko e kui, pea ʻoku tau tautaufā ʻo hangē ʻoku ʻikai hatau mata: ʻoku tau humu ʻi he hoʻatāmālie ʻo hangē ha poʻuli; ʻoku tau ʻi he ngaahi potu lala ʻo hangē ko e kakai mate.
11 We all roar like bears, and mourn bitterly like doves: we look for judgment, but [there is] none; for salvation, [but] it is far from us.
ʻOku tau tangi kotoa pē ʻo tatau mo e fanga pea, pea ʻoku tangi mamahi ʻo hangē ko e kulukulu, ʻoku tau kumi ki he fakamaau, ka ʻoku ʻikai; ki he fakamoʻui, ka ʻoku mamaʻo ia ʻiate kitautolu.
12 For our transgressions are multiplied before thee, and our sins testify against us: for our transgressions [are] with us; and [as for] our iniquities, we know them;
He kuo fakalahi ʻemau ngaahi talangataʻa ʻi ho ʻao, pea ʻoku talatalaakiʻi ʻakitautolu ʻe heʻetau ngaahi angahala: he ʻoku ʻiate kitautolu ʻetau ngaahi talangataʻa; pea ko ʻetau ngaahi angahala, ʻoku tau ʻilo ia;
13 In transgressing and lying against the LORD, and departing away from our God, speaking oppression and revolt, conceiving and uttering from the heart words of falsehood.
Ko e meʻa ʻi he angatuʻu mo e lohiakiʻi kia Sihova, mo e ʻalu mei hotau ʻOtua, ʻo lea ki he fakamālohi mo e fakaaoao, ʻi he mahalo ʻaki mo e fakahā mei he loto ʻae ngaahi lea loi.
14 And judgment is turned away backward, and justice standeth afar off: for truth is fallen in the street, and equity cannot enter.
Pea kuo foki ki mui ʻae fakamaau, pea ʻoku ʻi he mamaʻo ʻae angatonu: he kuo hinga ʻae moʻoni ʻi he hala, pea ʻoku ʻikai faʻa hū ki ai ʻae faitotonu.
15 Yes, truth faileth; and he [that] departeth from evil maketh himself a prey: and the LORD saw [it], and it displeased him that [there was] no judgment.
ʻIo, kuo mole ʻae moʻoni; pea ʻoku lau ko e faha ʻaia kuo afe mei he kovi: pea naʻe ʻafio ki ai ʻa Sihova, pea naʻe kovi ia ki hono fofonga ʻi he ʻikai ai ha fakamaau.”
16 And he saw that [there was] no man, and wondered that [there was] no intercessor: therefore his arm brought salvation to him; and his righteousness, it sustained him.
“Pea naʻa ne ʻafioʻi ʻoku ʻikai ai ha tangata, pea ofo ia ʻi he ʻikai ha fakalaloa: ko ia naʻe ʻomi ʻe hono nima ʻae fakamoʻui kiate ia; pea ko ʻene māʻoniʻoni, naʻe tokoni ia kiate ia.
17 For he put on righteousness as a breast-plate, and a helmet of salvation upon his head; and he put on the garments of vengeance [for] clothing, and was clad with zeal as a cloke.
18 According to [their] deeds, accordingly he will repay, fury to his adversaries, recompense to his enemies; to the isles he will repay recompense.
ʻO fakatatau ki heʻenau ngaahi faianga, ʻe pehē ʻene totongi, ʻaki ʻae houhau ki he kau angatuʻu, ʻae totongi ki hono ngaahi fili; ki he ngaahi motu te ne fakatatau ʻae totongi.
19 So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD will lift up a standard against him.
Ko ia te nau manavahē ai ki he huafa ʻo Sihova mei he lulunga, pea mo hono nāunau mei he hopoʻangalaʻā. ʻOka ʻoho mai ʻae fili ʻo hangē ko e vaitafe lahi, ʻe hiki hake ʻe he Laumālie ʻo Sihova ha fuka kiate ia.
20 And the Redeemer will come to Zion, and to them that turn from transgression in Jacob, saith the LORD.
Pea ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova, ʻE haʻu ʻae Huhuʻi ki Saione, pea kiate kinautolu ʻoku tafoki mei he talangataʻa ʻia Sēkope.
21 As for me, this [is] my covenant with them, saith the LORD; My spirit that [is] upon thee, and my words which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seed's seed, saith the LORD, from henceforth and for ever.
ʻOku pehē ʻe Sihova, “Ka ko au, ko ʻeku fuakava eni mo kinautolu; Ko hoku laumālie ʻaia ʻoku ʻiate koe, pea mo ʻeku ngaahi lea kuo u ʻai ki ho ngutu, ʻe ʻikai ʻalu ʻi ho ngutu, pe mei he ngutu ʻo ho hako, pe mei he ngutu ʻoe hako ʻo ho hako, ʻoku pehē ʻe Sihova, ngata mei heni ʻo aʻu ʻo taʻengata.”
