Isaiah 50
1 Thus saith the LORD, Where [is] the bill of your mother's divorcement, whom I have put away? or which of my creditors [is it] to whom I have sold you? Behold, for your iniquities have ye sold yourselves, and for your transgressions is your mother put away.
Ainsi dit le Seigneur: Quel est cet écrit de divorce par lequel j'ai répudié votre mère? Pour quelle dette vous ai-je vendus? Vous avez été vendus pour vos péchés, et j'ai répudié votre mère pour vos dérèglements.
2 Why, when I came, [was there] no man? when I called, [was there] none to answer? Is my hand shortened at all, that it cannot redeem? or have I no power to deliver? behold, at my rebuke I dry up the sea, I make the rivers a wilderness: their fish becometh putrid, because [there is] no water, and dieth for thirst.
Pourquoi suis-je venu, sans trouver un homme? pourquoi ai-je appelé, sans que nul m'obéît? Ma main n'est-elle pas assez forte pour racheter? Ne suis-je point assez fort pour délivrer? Voilà que d'un mot de menace je tarirai la mer, je rendrai les fleuves déserts, et les poissons, faute d'eau, seront à sec, et ils mourront de soif.
3 I clothe the heavens with blackness, and I make sackcloth their covering.
Je revêtirai le ciel de ténèbres, et je lui mettrai une couverture comme un cilice.
4 The Lord GOD hath given me the tongue of the learned, that I should know how to speak a word in season to [him that is] weary: he wakeneth morning by morning, he wakeneth my ear to hear as the learned.
Le Seigneur Maître m'a donné le langage de la doctrine, pour savoir quand il est à propos de parler. Il m'a mis à l'œuvre dès l'aurore; il m'a accordé une oreille pour entendre.
5 The LORD GOD opened my ear, and I was not rebellious, neither turned away back.
Et l'enseignement du Seigneur Maître m'a ouvert les oreilles; et je n'y ai pas été indocile, et je n'y ai point contredit.
6 I gave my back to the smiters, and my cheeks to them that plucked off the hair: I hid not my face from shame and spitting.
J'ai abandonné mon dos aux flagellations, et mes joues aux soufflets, et je n'ai point détourné mon visage de l'humiliation des crachats.
7 For the Lord GOD will help me; therefore shall I not be confounded: therefore have I set my face like a flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed.
Et le Seigneur Maître m'a prêté son secours; aussi n'ai-je point eu de confusion; mais j'ai rendu mon visage aussi ferme qu'un rocher, et j'ai reconnu que je n'aurais point à rougir.
8 [He is] near that justifieth me; who will contend with me? let us stand together; who [is] my adversary? let him come near to me.
Car celui qui m'a jugé innocent est proche; quel est mon adversaire? qu'il comparaisse avec moi; quel est mon adversaire? qu'il s'approche de moi.
9 Behold the Lord GOD will help me; who [is] he [that] shall condemn me? lo, they all shall wax old as a garment; the moth shall eat them up.
Et si le Seigneur Maître vient à mon secours, qui me maltraitera? Voilà que vous allez tous vieillir comme un manteau, et les vers vous dévoreront.
10 Who [is] among you that feareth the LORD, that obeyeth the voice of his servant, that walketh [in] darkness, and hath no light? let him trust in the name of the LORD, and rely upon his God.
Qui de vous craint le Seigneur? Que celui-là écoute la voix du serviteur de Dieu. Vous qui marchez dans les ténèbres, et qui n'avez point de lumière, mettez votre confiance dans le nom du Seigneur, et appuyez-vous sur Dieu.
11 Behold, all ye that kindle a fire, that encompass [yourselves] with sparks: walk in the light of your fire, and in the sparks [that] ye have kindled. This shall ye have of my hand; ye shall lie down in sorrow.
Voilà que vous allumez tous du feu, que vous activez la flamme; vous marcherez à la lumière de votre feu, à la flamme que vous avez allumée; c'est par moi que tout cela vous arrivera, et vous vous endormirez dans votre malheur.
