Isaiah 1
1 The vision of Isaiah the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem in the days of Uzziah, Jotham, Ahaz, [and] Hezekiah, kings of Judah.
アモツの子イザヤがユダの王ウジヤ、ヨタム、アハズ、ヒゼキヤの世にユダとエルサレムについて見た幻。
2 Hear, O heavens, and give ear, O earth: for the LORD hath spoken, I have nourished and brought up children, and they have rebelled against me.
天よ、聞け、地よ、耳を傾けよ、主が次のように語られたから、「わたしは子を養い育てた、しかし彼らはわたしにそむいた。
3 The ox knoweth his owner, and the ass his master's crib: [but] Israel doth not know, my people doth not consider.
牛はその飼主を知り、ろばはその主人のまぐさおけを知る。しかしイスラエルは知らず、わが民は悟らない」。
4 Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evil-doers, children that are corrupters: they have forsaken the LORD, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel to anger, they are gone away backward.
ああ、罪深い国びと、不義を負う民、悪をなす者のすえ、堕落せる子らよ。彼らは主を捨て、イスラエルの聖者をあなどり、これをうとんじ遠ざかった。
5 Why should ye be stricken any more? ye will revolt more and more: the whole head is sick, and the whole heart faint.
あなたがたは、どうして重ね重ねそむいて、なおも打たれようとするのか。その頭はことごとく病み、その心は全く弱りはてている。
6 From the sole of the foot even to the head [there is] no soundness in [it]; [but] wounds, and bruises, and putrifying sores: they have not been closed, neither bound up, neither mollified with ointment.
足のうらから頭まで、完全なところがなく、傷と打ち傷と生傷ばかりだ。これを絞り出すものなく、包むものなく、油をもってやわらげるものもない。
7 Your country [is] desolate, your cities [are] burned with fire: your land, strangers devour it in your presence, and [it is] desolate, as overthrown by strangers.
あなたがたの国は荒れすたれ、町々は火で焼かれ、田畑のものはあなたがたの前で外国人に食われ、滅ぼされたソドムのように荒れすたれた。
8 And the daughter of Zion is left as a cottage in a vineyard, as a lodge in a garden of cucumbers, as a besieged city.
シオンの娘はぶどう畑の仮小屋のように、きゅうり畑の番小屋のように、包囲された町のように、ただひとり残った。
9 Except the LORD of hosts had left to us a very small remnant, we should have been as Sodom; we should have been like Gomorrah.
もし万軍の主が、われわれに少しの生存者を残されなかったなら、われわれはソドムのようになり、またゴモラと同じようになったであろう。
10 Hear the word of the LORD, ye rulers of Sodom; give ear to the law of our God, ye people of Gomorrah.
あなたがたソドムのつかさたちよ、主の言葉を聞け。あなたがたゴモラの民よ、われわれの神の教に耳を傾けよ。
11 To what purpose [is] the multitude of your sacrifices to me? saith the LORD: I am full of the burnt-offerings of rams, and the fat of fed beasts; and I delight not in the blood of bullocks, or of lambs, or of he-goats.
主は言われる、「あなたがたがささげる多くの犠牲は、わたしになんの益があるか。わたしは雄羊の燔祭と、肥えた獣の脂肪とに飽いている。わたしは雄牛あるいは小羊、あるいは雄やぎの血を喜ばない。
12 When ye come to appear before me, who hath required this at your hand, to tread my courts?
あなたがたは、わたしにまみえようとして来るが、だれが、わたしの庭を踏み荒すことを求めたか。
13 Bring no more vain oblations; incense is an abomination to me; the new moons and sabbaths, the calling of assemblies, I cannot endure; [it is] iniquity, even the solemn meeting.
あなたがたは、もはや、むなしい供え物を携えてきてはならない。薫香は、わたしの忌みきらうものだ。新月、安息日、また会衆を呼び集めることわたしは不義と聖会とに耐えられない。
14 Your new moons and your appointed feasts my soul hateth: they are a trouble to me; I am weary to bear [them].
あなたがたの新月と定めの祭とは、わが魂の憎むもの、それはわたしの重荷となり、わたしは、それを負うのに疲れた。
15 And when ye spread forth your hands, I will hide my eyes from you: yes, when ye make many prayers, I will not hear: your hands are full of blood.
あなたがたが手を伸べるとき、わたしは目をおおって、あなたがたを見ない。たとい多くの祈をささげても、わたしは聞かない。あなたがたの手は血まみれである。
16 Wash ye, make yourselves clean; put away the evil of your doings from before my eyes; cease to do evil;
あなたがたは身を洗って、清くなり、わたしの目の前からあなたがたの悪い行いを除き、悪を行うことをやめ、
17 Learn to do well; seek judgment, relieve the oppressed, judge the fatherless, plead for the widow.
善を行うことをならい、公平を求め、しえたげる者を戒め、みなしごを正しく守り、寡婦の訴えを弁護せよ。
18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins are as scarlet, they shall be white as snow, though they are red like crimson, they shall be as wool.
主は言われる、さあ、われわれは互に論じよう。たといあなたがたの罪は緋のようであっても、雪のように白くなるのだ。紅のように赤くても、羊の毛のようになるのだ。
19 If ye are willing and obedient, ye shall eat the good of the land:
もし、あなたがたが快く従うなら、地の良き物を食べることができる。
20 But if ye refuse and rebel, ye shall be devoured with the sword: for the mouth of the LORD hath spoken [it].
しかし、あなたがたが拒みそむくならば、つるぎで滅ぼされる」。これは主がその口で語られたことである。
21 How is the faithful city become a harlot! it was full of judgment; righteousness lodged in it; but now murderers.
かつては忠信であった町、どうして遊女となったのか。昔は公平で満ち、正義がそのうちにやどっていたのに、今は人を殺す者ばかりとなってしまった。
22 Thy silver is become dross, thy wine mixed with water:
あなたの銀はかすとなり、あなたのぶどう酒は水をまじえ、
23 Thy princes [are] rebellious, and companions of thieves: every one loveth gifts, and followeth after rewards: they judge not the fatherless, neither doth the cause of the widow come to them.
あなたのつかさたちはそむいて、盗びとの仲間となり、みな、まいないを好み、贈り物を追い求め、みなしごを正しく守らず、寡婦の訴えは彼らに届かない。
24 Therefore saith the LORD, the LORD of hosts, the mighty One of Israel, Ah, I will ease me of my adversaries, and avenge me of my enemies:
このゆえに、主、万軍の主、イスラエルの全能者は言われる、「ああ、わたしはわが敵にむかって憤りをもらし、わがあだにむかって恨みをはらす。
25 And I will turn my hand upon thee, and thoroughly purge away thy dross, and take away all thy tin:
わたしはまた、わが手をあなたに向け、あなたのかすを灰汁で溶かすように溶かし去り、あなたの混ざり物をすべて取り除く。
26 And I will restore thy judges as at the first, and thy counselors as at the beginning: afterward thou shalt be called, The city of righteousness, the faithful city.
こうして、あなたのさばきびとをもとのとおりに、あなたの議官を初めのとおりに回復する。その後あなたは正義の都、忠信の町ととなえられる」。
27 Zion shall be redeemed with judgment, and her converts with righteousness.
シオンは公平をもってあがなわれ、そのうちの悔い改める者は、正義をもってあがなわれる。
28 And the destruction of the transgressors and of the sinners [shall be] together, and they that forsake the LORD shall be consumed.
しかし、そむく者と罪びととは共に滅ぼされ、主を捨てる者は滅びうせる。
29 For they shall be ashamed of the oaks which ye have desired, and ye shall be confounded for the gardens that ye have chosen.
あなたがたは、みずから喜んだかしの木によって、はずかしめを受け、みずから選んだ園によって、恥じ赤らむ。
30 For ye shall be as an oak whose leaf fadeth, and as a garden that hath no water.
あなたがたは葉の枯れるかしの木のように、水のない園のようになり、
31 And the strong shall be as tow, and the maker of it as a spark, and they shall both burn together, and none shall quench [them].
強い者も麻くずのように、そのわざは火花のようになり、その二つのものは共に燃えて、それを消す者はない。
