Genesis 49

1 And Jacob called to his sons, and said, Assemble yourselves, that I may tell you [that] which shall befall you in the last days.

Alors, Jacob appela ses fils, et il leur dit: Venez tous, que je vous annonce ce qui vous arrivera dans les derniers jours.

2 Assemble yourselves, and hear, ye sons of Jacob: and hearken to Israel your father.

Venez tous, et écoutez-moi, fils de Jacob: écoutez Israël, écoutez votre père.

3 Reuben, thou [art] my first-born, my might, and the beginning of my strength, the excellence of dignity, and the excellence of power:

Ruben, mon premier-né, toi ma force, et la tête de mes enfants, dur à supporter, dur par ton orgueil,

4 Unstable as water, thou shalt not excel; because thou wentest up to thy father's bed; then defiledst thou [it]; he went up to my couch.

Tu t'es répandu comme une eau qui déborde: tu ne croîtras plus: car tu es entré dans la couche de ton père, et tu as souillé le lit où tu étais monté.

5 Simeon and Levi [are] brethren: instruments of cruelty [are in], their habitations.

Siméon et Lévi, frères, ont accompli ensemble l'iniquité de leur dessein:

6 O my soul, come not thou into their secret; to their assembly, my honor, be not thou united: for in their anger they slew a man, and in their self-will they digged down a wall.

Que mon âme n'entre point dans leur conseil, que mon cœur ne s'émeuve point dans leurs réunions; car, en leur colère, ils ont tué des hommes; en leur fureur, ils ont tranché les nerfs du taureau.

7 Cursed [be] their anger, for [it was] fierce: and their wrath, for it was cruel: I will divide them in Jacob, and scatter them in Israel.

Maudite soit leur fureur, parce qu'elle est obstinée; maudite soit leur colère, parce qu'elle s'est endurcie; je les partagerai en Jacob; je les disperserai en Israël.

8 Judah, thou [art he] whom thy brethren shall praise; thy hand [shall be] on the neck of thy enemies: thy father's children shall bow down before thee.

Juda, que tes frères chantent tes louanges; tu poseras tes mains sur le dos de tes ennemis, et les fils de ton père se prosterneront devant toi.

9 Judah [is] a lion's whelp; from the prey, my son, thou hast gone up: he stooped down, he couched as a lion, and as an old lion: who shall rouse him up?

Lionceau de lion, Juda, par ton rejeton, mon fils, tu seras élevé; tu t'étendras pour dormir, comme un lion et comme un lionceau: qui le réveillera?

10 The scepter shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet, until Shiloh shall come: and to him [shall be] the gathering of the people.

Les chefs ne cesseront jamais de sortir de Juda, ni les souverains de son sang, jusqu'à ce qu'advienne ce qui lui est réservé; c'est lui qui sera l'attente des nations.

11 Binding his foal to the vine, and his ass's colt to the choice vine; he washed his garments in wine, and his clothes in the blood of grapes:

Il attachera à la vigne son ânesse, et au sarment le poulain de son ânesse, puis il lavera sa robe dans le vin, et son manteau dans le sang de la grappe.

12 His eyes [shall be] red with wine, and his teeth white with milk.

Ses yeux, plus que le vin, inspireront la joie, et il aura des dents plus blanches que le lait.

13 Zebulun shall dwell at the haven of the sea; and he [shall be] for a haven of ships; and his border [shall be] to Zidon.

Zabulon demeurera près de la mer, vers le port des navires, et il s'étendra jusqu'à Sidon.

14 Issachar [is] a strong ass, couching down between two burdens:

Issachar a convoité le bien; il s'est fixé au milieu des autres parts;

15 And he saw that rest [was] good, and the land that [it was] pleasant; and bowed his shoulder to bear, and became a servant to tribute.

Il a vu que la stabilité est bonne, que la terre est grasse, il a consacré ses bras au travail; il est devenu laboureur.

16 Dan shall judge his people, as one of the tribes of Israel.

Dan jugera son peuple aussi bien qu'aucune autre tribu d'Israël.

17 Dan shall be a serpent by the way, an adder in the path, that biteth the horse-heels, so that his rider shall fall backward.

Et que Dan devienne comme un serpent sur la route, couché dans le sentier; qu'il morde les jambes du cheval, et le cavalier tombera à la renverse.,

18 I have waited for thy salvation O LORD.

Attendant du Seigneur le salut.

19 Gad, a troop shall overcome him: but he shall overcome at the last.

Quant à Gad, l'incursion des ennemis l'assaillira; elle s'attaquera à ses pieds.

20 Out of Asher his bread [shall be] fat, and he shall yield royal dainties.

Aser, son pain sera gras, et il donnera, même aux rois, des délices.

21 Naphtali [is] a hind let loose: he giveth goodly words.

Nephthali s'étale comme un rejeton plein de beauté dans ses branches.

22 Joseph [is] a fruitful bough, [even] a fruitful bough by a well; [whose] branches run over the wall:

Joseph est un fils d'accroissement, c'est mon fils prospère et bien-aimé: ô mon fils le plus jeune, reviens près de moi.

23 The archers have sorely grieved him, and shot [at him], and hated him:

Se concertant contre lui, ils ont fait l'injustice, et les maîtres de l'arc se sont attaqués à lui.

24 But his bow abode in strength, and the arms of his hands were made strong by the hands of the mighty [God] of Jacob: from thence [is] the shepherd the stone of Israel:

Et leurs arcs ont été brisés par la force; et leurs bras ont été paralysés par la main du Dieu tout-puissant de Jacob; Israël en a été fortifié par le Dieu de ton père.

25 [Even] by the God of thy father, who shall help thee, and by the Almighty, who shall bless thee with blessings of heaven above, blessings of the deep that lieth beneath, blessings of the breasts, and of the womb:

Et mon Dieu t'a secouru; du haut des cieux il a répandu sur toi la bénédiction du ciel et la bénédiction de la terre productrice de toutes choses: à cause de la bénédiction des mamelles et des entrailles,

26 The blessings of thy father have prevailed above the blessings of my progenitors to the utmost bound of the everlasting hills; they shall be on the head of Joseph, and on the crown of the head of him that was separate from his brethren.

De la bénédiction de ton père et de ta mère. Joseph a été fortifié, et il a été béni plus que les montagnes immuables, plus que les collines éternelles: ces bénédictions subsisteront sur la tête de Joseph, et sa tête s'est élevée au-dessus de la tête de ses frères.

27 Benjamin shall raven [as] a wolf: in the morning he shall devour the prey, and at night he shall divide the spoil.

Benjamin, loup ravissant; le matin il mange encore, et au soir on lui donne de la nourriture.

28 All these [are] the twelve tribes of Israel: and this [is it] which their father spoke to them, and blessed them; every one according to his blessing he blessed them.

Tels étaient les fils de Jacob. Leur père leur dit ces choses; il les bénit, et il donna à chacun sa bénédiction.

29 And he charged them, and said to them, I am to be gathered to my people: bury me with my fathers in the cave that [is] in the field of Ephron the Hittite.

Et il leur dit: Je vais me réunir à mon peuple; ensevelissez-moi avec mes pères, dans la caverne d'Ephron l'Hettéen,

30 In the cave that [is] in the field of Machpelah, which [is] before Mamre, in the land of Canaan, which Abraham bought with the field of Ephron the Hittite for a possession of a burying-place.

Dans la caverne double qui fait face à Membré, en la terre de Chanaan, et Qu'Abraham a achetée d'Ephron l'Hettéen, pour en faire une sépulture.

31 (There they buried Abraham and Sarah his wife; there they buried Isaac and Rebekah his wife; and there I buried Leah, )

Là sont ensevelis Abraham et sa femme Sarra, Isaac et sa femme Rébécca, et enfin Lia.

32 The purchase of the field and of the cave that [is] in it, [was] from the children of Heth.

Ils sont ensevelis dans le champ et la caverne achetés des fils de Het.

33 And when Jacob had made an end of commanding his sons, he drew his feet into the bed, and expired, and was gathered to his people.

Et Jacob cessa de donner ses ordres à ses fils, puis, ayant ramené ses pieds sur sa couche, il défaillit, et il se réunit à son peuple.
